"Two Worlds of the Dream of the Red Chamber" ~ Two stark and contrasting worlds inside and outside the Grand View Garden

"Dream of the Red Chamber" is one of the four major literary masterpieces in ancient China, with high literary value and artistic value. Since the advent of the novel, countless red science enthusiasts and experts have conducted long-term research and exploration of "Dream of the Red Chamber", and monographs in this area can be said to be full of sweat and cattle. Today we will share a book in this regard - "The Two Worlds of the Dream of the Red Chamber". The book explains in detail the relationship between the two worlds inside and outside the Grand View Garden of "Dream of the Red Chamber", and through the analysis of individual cases, it shows us two distinct worlds, one virtual and one real.

The author of this book is a Chinese-American Yu Yingshi, a native of Anhui, who studied at New Asia College and New Asia Research Institute in Hong Kong under Mr. Qian Mu. He later studied at Harvard University and received his Ph.D. He was a professor at the University of Michigan, Harvard, and Yale University, the dean of Hong Kong New College and vice president of Chinese University, and a chair professor at Princeton University. He is the author of "Economic Transportation between China and Foreign Countries in the Han Dynasty", "History and Thought", "Historiography and Tradition", "Modern Interpretation of Chinese Ideological Tradition" and other works.

Cao Xueqin created two stark and contrasting worlds in Dream of the Red Chamber, namely the world of Daguanyuan and the world outside Daguanyuan. These two worlds are one of the main threads that run through the book. Grasping this clue is equivalent to grasping the central meaning of the author's creative intentions. But in the past 50 years, the study of "Dream of the Red Chamber" has basically been a kind of historical research. Historians' interests focus on the real world of Dream of the Red Chamber. Therefore, the so-called "red science" of half a century is actually only "Cao Xue", which is the study of Cao Xueqin and his family lineage. The author believes that replacing Hongxue with Cao Xue is a price to pay. The biggest price is to blur the boundary between the two worlds in "Dream of the Red Chamber".

Cao Xueqin tells us that the clean ideal world in "Dream of the Red Chamber" is built on the basis of the dirtiest real world. If the whole book is completed or preserved in its entirety, we will surely know that the cleanest will eventually return to the dirtiest place. On the one hand, Cao Xueqin created an ideal world, on the other hand, he ruthlessly wrote a contrasting real world. The forces of the real world continue to destroy this ideal world until it is completely destroyed. The authors of this book use numerous examples to illustrate the interdependence of the two worlds.
