A car in northern India crashed into a valley, killing 11 people

NEW DELHI, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Indian government officials said on Oct. 31 that a car in the Indian state of Uttarakhand fell into a valley that day, killing at least 11 people and injuring four others.

Officials from the state's emergency services said the accident occurred in the Jegrada area near the state's capital, Daihradun. The car, carrying 15 people, crashed out of control into the valley while driving down the mountain road. Rescuers and police rushed to the scene to rescue the injured, who had been taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Due to poor road conditions and illegal operations such as speeding and overloading of drivers, traffic accidents occur frequently in India. According to incomplete statistics, about 150,000 people in India die in various types of traffic accidents every year.
