The "evolutionary history" of the husky: it is a very thoughtful dog

When it comes to husky, people will always subconsciously call it "two ha", and high appearance and "low IQ" seem to have become the two most distinctive labels of husky.

For example, appearing stupid, giving up, not teaching anything, not willing to learn to please human beings, and so on.

In fact, to a large extent, it stems from its independent thinking, stubborn temper, and unwillingness to obey its master.

As for letting go? Love to tear down your home?

An outdoor working dog you give a circle indoors all day, it is difficult to go out once, no one to give up. Especially in the community building was locked up for a day of husky, the amount of exercise should not be achieved, every day at home is too boring, had to tear down the house to find fun.

There was a video circulating on the Internet that when the husky was taken to the zoo, after seeing the wild wolf on the other side of the barbed wire, Erha was as excited as if he had met a brother he had not seen for many years.

On both sides of the barbed wire, there was a sudden howl of wolves.

Although their cries are similar, the wolves are chilling, and the more fierce Erha behaves, the more often they make people laugh.

However, to be honest, among the dogs, the blood relationship between huskies and wolves does belong to a very close one.

Huskies and wolves not only look alike, but their genes are close to 99% similar.

As a result, the husky's appearance, personality, bark, and living habits are obviously different from other dogs.

In general, the tail of a pet dog is usually erected, and it will sway as if it is pleasing to acquaintances. But wolves and huskies are tail-wrenching every day. Only when excited or running, the tail will be upturned.

Moreover, another very different characteristic of the husky is that Erha has not evolved into the "innocent eyes" of other dogs.

Or something like this

It is said that this kind of look is deliberately evolved by dogs for humans.

When dogs make this innocent expression with their watery eyes, they look a lot like human cubs, which in turn arouses the desire of humans to take care of them - dogs whose eyes can be "innocent" are often more advantageous than other companions and are easier to choose.

Thus, after a long period of evolution, there are now innocent eyes of dogs.

However, there are exceptions to everything, the husky is not biased, and the eyes of The Second Ha are always so... Slightly... Smart and unique.

If you carefully review the evolutionary history of huskies, you will find that in Erha's "dog life view", they do not directly regard humans as masters and objects of flattery. Humans are more like their "partners."

Huskies have gone out of Siberia and become pet dogs all over the world, in fact, it has been about 100 years. For a long time, it had been used as a "working dog" for hard work in difficult conditions.

In the early Neolithic period, about 10,000 years ago, a group of hunters living in Central Asia migrated to the cold polar regions with their hounds in order to survive.

Here, their dogs "bonded" with wolves for a long time and slowly developed into a dog breed endemic to the polar regions, including the Siberian sled dog (husky), whose name was "Chukchi dog" because the tribesmen in which it was located were called "Chukchi".

It is a little more important to say that the donkey mule (donkey born) or the horse mule (horse born) combined with the donkey horse has chromosomal defects and cannot breed the next generation; any breed of dog and wolf can snap at will (as long as it is not too largely different in size), and can produce healthy and reproductive offspring.

Among the offspring of wolves and dogs that are constantly "combined", Chukotzi dogs (huskies) stand out smoothly, they are medium in stature, they do not eat too much (this is very important), they are odorless and hardy, they are physically strong, and they are very adapted to the polar climate.

Of course, the Chukotka dogs were not kept in captivity as pets, but as working companions for humans, pulling sleds, participating in large hunting activities, protecting villages, guiding reindeer, and guarding the homes of humans on the vast Siberian plains.

The first time the husky was recognized by the outside world, it had to wait until the end of the 18th century.

A Japanese cargo ship bound for the Netherlands was swept away to Kamchatka by a storm.

In the Chukchi tribe on the island, the crew was surprised to find that, alas, there are such great dogs on earth—not only can carry heavy loads but also drag sleds, labor ability is quite strong, and they are quite mental.

But it will be more than a hundred years before the Chukotka dog actually leaves Siberia.

In 1909, William Goosak, a fur merchant in the Russian Empire, brought a team of Chukchi dogs to a small town called Nome in Alaska to participate in a dog sled race.

On the field, chukchi dogs performed very well, attracting the attention of many local dog sledding enthusiasts with their super fast speed and tenacious perseverance. Since then, this beautiful dog breed with a small but compact body has become popular in North America.

At the beginning of the 20th century, huskies were working

According to the dog's origin, it was named Siberian Husky (Siberian husky).

By the way, Alaska, known as one of the "three fools of the sled", does have a lot in common with the husky, but until the husky was introduced to North America in the early 20th century, the two lived on both sides of the Bering Strait, belonging to two continents. Their owners were the Chukotka Eskimos and the Alaskan Eskimos, respectively.

Compared with Alaska, the husky is smaller, the coat color is tighter, the habits and characteristics of wolves are more obvious, and in the "dog group", it seems very personal.

Today's huskies have long regarded Alaska as their "home".

Through the nome town of the game, the husky began to gain the attention of the military and, a few years later, participated in World War I.

In December 1915, more than 400 sled dogs from Canada and Alaska arrived in France. The dogs were specially trained to carry out supplies for the French army in the Vosges mountains of the Western Front.

By this time the Mountains of Vosges had been closed by heavy snow, supplies transported by mules and horses often could not arrive on time, and the officers and soldiers were hungry and cold, resulting in a large number of non-combat attritions.

The Vosges Mountains, located in the northern French city of Alsace, are one of the two cities ceded to Germany after the Franco-Prussian War in the "Last Lesson"

The huskies were divided into sixty groups, each with seven to nine dogs and a sled.

A dog sled can carry between 300 and 400 kilograms at a time and can travel forty kilometers a day, equivalent to a light tank at that time.

When the snow had melted in the summer, they were not left idle, and the dogs were taken along the railway line to continue pulling cars on the tracks.

They have since delivered large quantities of supplies, ammunition and wounded to the Allies on the Western Front.

Moreover, dogs cost less than animal-powered vehicles such as mules and horses. According to statistics, they reduced the cost of transporting military supplies from 17 francs to 5 francs.

This cheap and easy-to-use husky convoy served until the end of World War I.

By this time, 189 of the 436 dogs that boarded the ship in Montreal, Canada, more than two years ago had died of injuries, illnesses and bullets.

After the war, the surviving dogs were adopted by the French soldiers who took care of them. Three of them were also awarded the French Cross of Valor.

The husky who is now pulling a car at the tourist attractions in the Vosges mountains does not know whether there are any descendants of those "fighting dogs"

After the war, the husky's vigorous "glorious deeds" continued.

On Christmas Day 1924, as heavy snow closed the mountains, the remote town of Nome in Alaska (the one that held the dog sled race earlier, which was later upgraded to a city) suddenly became popular with diphtheria, but the city where the serum had recently been stored was 955 miles away.

Originally, the serum was transported to 657 miles away from Nome, and there could be a plane to pick it up, but it coincided with the Christmas "Golden Week", and the pilot returned to the mainland for vacation.

In an emergency, the local health department decided to use two sets of sled dogs to relay transport, sending 20 seasoned sledmen and 150 sled dogs to travel day and night, through rivers, across plains, forests, and across the frozen Alaskan Post Road.

Through this seemingly primitive method, in the winter storms and polar nights, 20 sledders and 150 sled dogs reduced the route that had to take 25 days in the summer to five and a half days, and the children in the city were finally saved. The experience, which came to be known as the "Great Race of Mercy," was widely celebrated.

The dogs ran the route, note that this is a third of the land located in Alaska, north of the Arctic Circle, in the winter

Later, the "Great Race of Mercy" story was also made into a movie.

In the movie, the "dog captain" of the leading sled team is called Togo, which has a real prototype, which is the picture below.

In that year, in the environment of -30 degrees Celsius and strong winds above seven levels, Togo ran 452 kilometers (roughly equivalent to the distance from Beijing to Hohhot), which was the longest dog in the sled team.

Having said so much, you may also think it is strange, you said that togo such a husky can cross the wind and snow, meet the avalanche, cross the glacier, and the owner across the mountains and seas and the cold, the dog's tenacious and fearless character, can be called touching, why is it always ridiculed as "silly dog", "two Ha", "no hands", "sled three fools first stupid"....

In fact, this is really a human misunderstanding of it.

Although people always ridicule huskies as "emotionally intelligent", according to professional IQ tests, in various dogs, huskies are still ranked at an upper-middle level, and there is no problem with brains.

The reason why huskies "can't teach", "love to demolish homes", and all kinds of confusing behaviors they make every day, is mainly because no matter how big your family is, it can't put aside its original nature.

As mentioned earlier, people originally pulled long-distance sleds, with good energy and endurance, you raised it as a pet, and the dog's explosive energy had nowhere to be released, so it had to be demolished nearby.

Screenshot of "Togo", this is the correct way to open the husky

Moreover, when people say that the husky is stupid, many times they refer to its "disobedience", which is the so-called "poor obedience"

The husky belongs to the outdoor working dog, you train it to do like other dogs, bite things, do some pleasing movements to humans, it is often quite dismissive, always showing different degrees of resistance.

Because, in its "dog brain," as stated at the beginning, humans and it should be partners, not pure breeding relationships.

Before they become pet dogs and pull sleds in freezing conditions, they are to act in groups, usually a sled team of at least four or more huskies, one of which is the leader.

The "evolutionary history" of the husky: it is a very thoughtful dog

The Russian sled team, the husky in the middle, was the dog leader. It can be seen that the husky's eyes are clearly different from the tall Alaska next to it

This "dog leader" has the same status as the owner, and it is also called the "head dog", which is responsible for identifying road conditions and eliminating dangers.

At the same time, in the process of actual action, because the owner of the car is in the back, it is likely that the perception is not in place, and there will be a wrong judgment. Therefore, the "head dog" can refuse to carry out the order of the master and find the direction according to his own opinion.

In some extreme environments, when the owner can not judge, the "head dog" can even lead the convoy forward instead of the owner. For example, togo, the "dog hero" who delivered serum to the children of the alaska town of Nome, saved the owner and the entire convoy several times with his own experience and intuition.

Stills from Togo

However, today's husky, most of them are kept as pets, and it is a dog of the same type around. In this way, it inevitably regards itself as a "head dog", very dare to express Benha's thoughts, and is unwilling to honestly follow the instructions of its master.

So, between man and dog, if you think about it in a different way, you will find that the husky's stupidity and two, and its confusing behavior, come from its nature--wild, untamed, energetic, independent-minded, and assertive.

In short, the husky is a very thoughtful dog, and it is not easy to make it completely convince you.
