It is understood that in accordance with the Fishery Law of the People's Republic of China, the Measures for the Examination and Approval of Aquatic Origin and Fine Species, and other legal systems, the state encourages and supports the breeding and promotion of excellent aquatic varieties. New aquatic varieties must be examined and approved by the National Aquatic Origin and Fine Seed Approval Committee, and promoted by the competent fishery administrative department under the State Council after announcement. Up to now, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has released a total of 240 new aquatic varieties, of which carp, crucian carp, tilapia, Chinese shrimp, ctenophorus scallops and kelp have used new varieties of self-selected breeding, and the domestic market share of giant river prawn, spotted forktail and white shrimp that are independently bred has reached 60%, 40% and 30% respectively.
