The last 32 days remain in 2018.
Dear me, in this year, under the fireworks of New Year's Eve, in the candlelight of the birthday, the moment when the meteor slides by, or even just a whim in ordinary life, those wishes have been fulfilled?
Below, I'd like to tell you three little stories about wishes. Or, not just a story of desire, but also freedom, inspiration, and creativity.

A girl who is always young
"If God can fulfill my three wishes,
I want a Mercedes-Benz, a color TV
And a drunken evening. ”
——Janis Joplin
August 1970, New York. Vahsen's bar is not crowded, and the four people sitting in the corner of the bar are even more noisy. That's Janis Joplin and her friends. During the break for a drink before the show, she suddenly remembered hearing a lyric from the "Beat Generation" poet Michael McClure, so she improvised: 'Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz? )'
Then, the other lyrics flowed out without any obstacles, and she asked God for three things: a Mercedes, a color TV, and a big drunk. Leaving aside the last wish that was not difficult for hippie youth to fulfill, the first two may represent the general yearning for a better life at that time.
She sang to herself, while her buddy, folk singer Bob Neuwirth, quickly grabbed a napkin and a ballpoint pen from the bar and wrote down the lyrics. As Joplin's voice grew louder, the bartenders also turned on the background music louder and louder. The song that has survived to this day was created in a secret "volume contest".

(Left) Bar Vahsen's was later renamed Little Dick's.
A few hours later, she took to the stage of the Capitol Theater, holding a guitar in her hand, but never playing, just singing the song she had just written. And the band's musicians can only play occasionally, trying to keep up with her rhythm. Because she sang faster and faster, more and more excited, the three lyrics were repeated, but full of enthusiasm and fun. All along, she longed to be loved, to be proud of herself, but only when she sang could she feel it all.
Two months later, after finishing the recording of the day at Hollywood's famous Sunset Sound studio, Joplin told the producers to continue: "I want to sing a song of social significance. "Open the mouth to pretend to be serious, and then still sing the whole oratorio, and the song ends with a laugh. But who would have thought that the short 1 minute and 46 seconds would become Joplin's last song.
The song didn't have time to record the instrumental part, and Joplin didn't get a Mercedes-Benz that God had given. The 27-year-old girl, later regarded as one of the greatest female singers in the history of rock and roll, has left behind many classic works, and the rough edges of her sharp voice can unbridledly cut through the smooth and shiny surface of the world, revealing her true, free, and eternally young soul.
In 1969, Joplin was in front of the famous Chelsea Hotel. Right now
Because of the song "Chelsea Hotel No. 2" full of affection and regret,
Everyone knows about her encounter with Cohen here.
"Well, it's okay, we're ugly, but we have music."
It is a very moving sentence, as if two travelers are in the crowded noise of the world
Recognized each other, exchanged the cleanest secrets of their hearts,
The ephemeral interlacing is thus immortal.
A lifelong wayward woman
"All wandering lives dream of peace, childhood, azaleas, just as all peaceful lives fantasize about vodka, bands, and drunken dreams of death."
——Francoise Sagan
Paris, 1953. At Le Cujas Café, not far from the Sorbonne, the girl who had skipped class came again, lying on her desk as usual, buried her head in something. She is 18 years old, 1.66 meters tall, weighs 49 kilograms and smokes a Chesterfield cigarette without a filter. That summer, she did not pass the Sorbonne preparatory exam, so she did not go to university. However, she began to get entangled with wealth and fame with a novel called "Hello, Sorrow". Her pen name, which originated from Proust's character, has since been remembered in Europe and the world at large, Francoise Sagan.
In 1954, When "Hello, Sorrow" was just published, Sagan was at home. Female photographer Sabine Weiss captures Sagan's melancholy under ease and rebellion.
People may be more familiar with Sagan's life than Sagan's works. Yes, she is careless, untamed, obsessed with speed, always in adolescence, and her whole life is like spending summer vacations, being regarded as a female version of James Dean, and being called "charming little devil" by the writer Moriak. She is recognized as willful, and her willfulness is sober from the beginning: "I can't say that I am the freedom to 'be myself', because I am just a plastic dough, but a dough that rejects molds." (Huang Ying translation)
Sagan has imaginative insights about speed: speed flattens the plane trees along the road, elongates and twists the neon lights of gas stations, eliminates the screams of tires rubbing against the ground; speed can also remove the depression that covers my head: when the speed reaches 200 kilometers per hour, people's madness about love is weakened. For her, then, speed has an irrefutable legitimacy: "Speed is neither a sign or a proof, nor an encouragement or challenge, but an impulse to be happy." ”
In fact, she has always known that the middle-class stories she writes are by no means first-rate literature. Her life has not been particularly calm or turbulent, but has always been accompanied by her unique romance and sadness, always in trouble, but always going her own way. If it can be summed up simply, it is a line in the eulogy she wrote for herself early on: "Her life is as pleasant and flippant as her work." (Translated by Ho Ka Wai)
A genius who often dreams strangely
"I'm going to cut the back of a Mercedes,
Keep the sides all the way to the taillights, remove the back box, keep the tailgate, bend the metal shell to resemble a pickup truck, and then build a cool shelf with a 4*8 foot wooden board that extends to the front of the car."
——David Lynch
Sounds weird, right? But if you tell you that this crazy idea comes from David Lynch, isn't that a lot more logical? And, compared to the strange, complex, and confusing fantasies of the imagery he realized with the film, it should be much easier to modify a car, right? Yet he seems to be just keen to watch car channels on TV, watching with joy as others build and modify cars, praising them as "great metal and mechanical artists."
Of course, it's not unusual for this guy to do anything, and the extent of his crossover span is well known. Although his desire to change the car has not yet been realized, his relationship with the car can be long. Whether we claim to understand it or not, we can't deny that the Mercedes-Benz car chase scene in Mulholland Road in "Night Panic" is really wonderful. The editing is contrary to Lynch's stylized rigidity, and it has a compact look and feel like a genre film. It proves that this geek is not unable to tell stories for all ages, but just loves to get something "new". At the same time, this paragraph not only has a sense of speed and absurdity, but also a paradox full of black humor, and a traffic safety public service advertisement is made in the form of violent beatings.
Needless to say, the dark night gallops at the beginning and the end, and in the gorgeous and dark song of David Bowie, light and darkness, color and speed become both real and illusory.
Lynch believes in intuition, sensibility, and abstraction, but still prepares some rituals for inspiration to come: get up in the morning with a cup of coffee, smoke a cigarette, and then start meditating. He's been meditating for more than 40 years, but he never just drinks one cup of coffee. For years, he always visited a restaurant in Los Angeles, ordered a chocolate milkshake, drank four to seven cups of coffee, and then wrote down inspiration on napkins at any time.

David Lynch gives Sherlyn Finn a small surprise.
Joplin's "Mercedes Benz" was later selected several times by Mercedes-Benz as an advertising song, and the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, also exhibits sagan's early model 190SL. In addition, Mercedes-Benz is probably a royal prop in David Lynch's work, appearing several times until the critically acclaimed third season of Twin Peaks in 2017. It is worth mentioning that Sagan's last car in his later years was a second-hand Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL, which played a major role in the car chase scene of "Demon Night Panic".
