Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled his new cabinet on the morning of Oct. 26.

Sean. Sean Fraser takes office as Canada's new Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
Fraser, 37, was previously a lawyer in Nova Scotia. He was first elected to parliament in 2015. He was re-elected in 2019 and 2021. He has now replaced Marco Mendicino as Minister of Immigration, who has been Minister of Immigration since November 2019 and is now Canada's Minister of Public Safety.
Before entering politics, Fraser worked in commercial litigation and international dispute resolution. He holds a law degree from Dalhousie University, a master's degree in public international law from Leiden University in the Netherlands and a bachelor of science degree from St. Francis Xavier University.
Trudeau's Liberal Party of Canada has been in power since winning the 2015 federal elections. They won a majority at the time and won a minority government in the 2021 elections in 2019 and September.
Marco Mendicino, the last immigration minister, moved to public safety. After the formation of the new cabinet, the Liberal Party parliament will be convened on November 22.
What does the new Immigration Minister mean for immigration?
A focus for immigrants in Canada
(1) At its october 21 meeting with the Association representing Canadian immigration lawyers and consultants, USCIS identified three of the highest priority issues at the current time, namely achieving the goal of 401,000 new immigrants by 2021, family reunification, and the resettlement of Afghan refugees.
At the same time, the Canadian federation and provinces will continue to invite immigrant candidates through the EE Fast Track, PNP Provincial Nomination and other programs, and the submitted applications will continue to be processed.
(2) Trudeau will issue a new power of attorney for the new Cabinet Minister. The power of attorney will clarify the policy direction and priorities of Immigration Canada. During this year's campaign, the Liberals made a number of immigration commitments, such as eliminating the Canadian citizenship application fee, shortening the processing time for applications, and providing more immigration routes for overseas workers and international students through fast-track reforms.
Based on past experience, the new immigration level plan will be announced by March 2022 at the latest, and no major changes are expected in the new plan for 2022-2024, and it is likely to continue to emphasize the goal of absorbing 400,000 new immigrants per year. Let's wait and see!
(3) At the same time as the release of the new immigration level plan, the Canadian federal government may also confirm the 2022 fiscal budget, which will cover the main immigration-related priorities.
Whether the Liberal Party will continue its ambitious immigration program since 2015 is worth looking forward to!
