BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- "In China, I believe you know that open source software is actually more widely used in China than anywhere else in the world. Wang Rui, chairman of Intel China, said in an interview with China News Network and other media in Beijing recently.

At Intel's On Technology Innovation Summit, it released a range of new products and technologies for developers, including software and hardware. For example, it announced the establishment of a unified developer area and released the 12th generation Core processor product family.

Wang Rui said bluntly that open source software is in China, and our dependence and utilization on it are very strong. In fact, about 60% to 70% of China's application software is developed on open source, and the key is how everyone can get together to jointly push open source software and community ecosystems forward.

In Wang Rui's view, the entire community ecology of software developers cannot be created by a single large company, so it is necessary to constantly seek partners and work together. She believes that leading companies in various industries in China, such as Alibaba, have made a lot of progress in software development. "We're also working with companies like this to make it a win-win, a win-win situation for everyone, and to promote this (developer) community."

It is reported that in the Intel Asia-Pacific R&D center in Shanghai, there are more than 2,000 engineers, and the current main software is the mainstay. Our software engineers are located around the world to help build future-proof digital infrastructures and data-centric solutions that accelerate applications from the cloud to the edge and drive the digital economy, Wang said. It is hoped that its contribution to open source will help the development of basic software in China, and ultimately lay the foundation for the digital transformation and intelligent development of all walks of life.

Wang Rui believes that China is the world's data power, and the integration of digital economy and real economy has spawned a large number of new application scenarios. Based on its 36 years of rich experience in working with domestic industry partners, it will deepen cooperation with China's industrial ecosystem through solutions that combine software and hardware to better support the development of China's digital economy.

Alibaba Cloud has previously released arm server self-developed chips, inspur information has also released its new generation of storage platform, what does cooperation and competition in the industry mean for Intel? Wang Rui said that competition in the market is not a bad thing, especially from a global perspective. The first is to do a good job of yourself, to be competitive when you are good, and to have competitiveness can you create value for customers. According to different independent research and development trends, and according to the needs of service customers, Intel will embrace competition.

"Compete when it's time to compete, and cooperate when it's time to cooperate." Truly innovative companies have the courage to do so, and the industry is not a backwater. Wang Rui said.

Speaking of chip supply, Wang Rui said that the chip industry chain will face the biggest challenge in the next two years, especially in 2023, on the one hand, because of the increase in demand, on the other hand, because of the imbalance in the supply chain. The most basic things like the substrate, in the past, because they were not profitable and too basic, everyone did not pay attention to it, and there were some very small parts, even if the cost was very low, the shortage would still be helpless, and many things that were not cared about in the past have now become bottlenecks in development.

How to solve it? Wang Rui revealed that Intel has cooperated with many small suppliers in the local ecosystem. "We are the world's largest baseboard user and have the largest supply, but even that's not enough. From the perspective of substrate production, we are also communicating and coordinating with different partners in the industry to meet the needs of our customers as much as possible. In the next two years, there will be different collaborations, innovations, and developments. ”

Wang Rui also said that China's digital economy is now developing very fast, and Intel itself must accelerate its own implementation pace. "That's why we say we're going to run a marathon at the speed of a sprint,' not to run alone, but with so many eco-partners." (End)
