After reading "My Father and Me", Hoarder once lamented that in terms of sensationalism, the other three chapters cannot be matched with Zhang Ziyi's "Poems", because the fathers selected in the four chapters are not at the same latitude in greatness. The fathers and heroines in "Poetry", their high historical status, the great value of their work, and the strength of their sacrifice and enlightenment, are all able to make everyone respect The drop without distinction. Such real people, if supplemented by a certain level of artistic expression of the director, the strong emotional impact must be difficult for ordinary audiences to resist. Now, another movie with the same thing as "Poetry" will be released, that is, "The Believer", directed by Lan Chengxu and released nationwide on November 5. If you like Zhang Ziyi's "Poems", you will definitely like this "Believer" as well.
Like the Poem, the Believer is based on real people and real events, based on the deeds of Nyima Rama, a female postman in Yunling Township, Deqin County, Yunnan Province, China Post. Over the past two decades, she has unremittingly delivered mail to Tibetan compatriots in Yunling Township on 960 square kilometers, traveling more than 100,000 kilometers. During this period, she has not delayed a single shift, nor has she lost a single email, and the delivery accuracy rate has always remained at 100%. It can be said that she is the representative of the spirit of mailing. The work of the postman and the first rocket researcher in the poem belongs to the great category - Nyima Yangzhen (Nyima Song Song) in The Believer can also achieve the undifferentiated respect of all.
Then we have to see what kind of artistic expression director Lan Chengxu uses to shape this greatness. If the shaping method is too monotonous, this recognized greatness may appear false and empty.
First of all, the opening of the film selects the scene where Nyima Yangzhen receives the award notification of the "Advanced Individual Honorable Title". In general biopics, the plot of winning the honor will mostly be placed at the end to affirm the achievements of the protagonist. For example, in the biopics of many sports stars, the climactic scene always has to be a victory or a championship. However, this film puts the protagonist's award at the beginning. This creates two interesting contrasts: one is that the person who delivers the letter receives the letter, and the other is that the promotion is more bitter.
As a postman, the first action in the movie is to receive the letter, which is a bit poetic. Yang Zhen was originally "promoted" after receiving the honor - transferred to Yunling Township to take over the work of the old director of the post office. However, what the audience did not expect was that Yunling Township was remote, and the mountain roads leading to various villages were rugged and difficult, and Yang Zhen, who was "promoted", was instead caught in a more arduous and dangerous job. This contrast immediately sets off the particularity of postal work.
Secondly, the film reveals the social value of postal work from both positive and negative perspectives. Positive disclosure, everyone understands. To praise a kind of work, you only need to describe what the practitioner's work can intuitively bring to people. Most directors do the job well. In the film, we can also see how strong the emotional exchange between the villagers and their relatives in the distance has been because Yang Zhen delivered the letter accurately and in a timely manner. Its social value is self-evident.
Reverse disclosure, the general director uses less. There is a little girl named Meadow in "The Believer", who is always rejected because she wrote to her parents who went out to work because her address was incorrect. So when Yang Zhen returned the letter to Mei Duo, Mei Duo angrily reprimanded Yang Zhen as a "fake postman". This is a kind of reverse revelation, that is, for Meadow, the audience sees not the good brought about by the presence of the postman, but the bad that the absence of the postman. The audience will think that if there is really no postman, how much resentment and sadness there will be in the world.
Finally, because the story takes place in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, most of the villagers who interact when Yangzhen sends the letter are firm believers, so many of their words carry religious philosophies, which greatly enhances the depth of the lines. Yang Zhen's postal work brings people not only material value, but also spiritual value.
The most touching thing about the biopic is whether the protagonist has enough convincing personality charm. Yang Zhen's personality may not be outstanding, but her attitude towards work and her efforts to maximize the social value of work are obviously convincing. The audience may not be able to cry as much as they watch "Poetry", but they will certainly be touched by the same part.
