Food additives are synthetic or natural substances added to foods to improve food quality and color, aroma, taste, as well as preservative, freshness and processing technology. For the use of food additives, China's GB 2760 "National Standards for Food Safety, Food Additives Use Standards" and related announcements on new varieties of food additives have made clear provisions on the types, names, scope of use and amount of food additives approved for use in China.

In addition to the use standards for food additives, China's food additive standard system also includes food additive product standards, labeling standards and production specifications. The Food Partners Network has sorted out the implementation principles of food additive product standards and briefly introduced this.

China's food additive product standards are mainly food additive product quality specifications.

<h1>1 Single variety food additive</h1>

For a single variety of food additive products should meet the corresponding quality standards, including national standards, industry standards, such as food additive varieties without national standards or industry standards, additive manufacturers can refer to the national health commission announcement in the food additive quality specifications requirements for production.

Such as food additives soluble soybean polysaccharides, LS/T3301-2005 "soluble soybean polysaccharides" can be used as an implementation standard for food additives soluble soybean polysaccharides.

If the food additive calcium alginate currently has no corresponding national standard or industry standard, but the quality specification requirements have been announced in the announcement of the new varieties of food additives, it can be produced according to this quality specification.

<h1>2 Compound food additives</h1>

GB 26687-2011 "National Standard for Food Safety General Principles for Compound Food Additives" applies to compound food additives other than food flavors and gum-based confectionery base agent substances, mainly stipulating the definition, naming principles, labeling and requirements of compound food additives.

However, the food additive compound leavening agent should meet the requirements of GB 1886.245-2016 "National Standard for Food Safety Food Additive Compound Leavening Agent". GB 26687 is the basic requirement for all types of compound food additives. GB 1886.245 is a standard specially formulated for compound leavening agent products, in the basic requirements of the "Compound Food Additives General Rules", the amount of carbon dioxide gas, heating reduction, nitric acid insoluble matter and other indicators are specified, and the compound bulking agent is more applicable and targeted.

<h1>3 Food spices, food flavors</h1>

GB 29938-2013 "National Standard for Food Safety General Rules for Food Spices" is a general standard for the product quality specifications of food spices allowed to be used in GB 2760, which mainly stipulates the definition and requirements of food spices. For food spice varieties that do not yet have national food safety standards or related standards, GB 29938-2013 "General Rules for Food Safety National Standards for Food Spices" are implemented and produced according to their requirements.

However, this standard does not apply to food spice varieties that have existing national or related standards for food safety.

GB 29938 in 3.1 basic requirements stipulate that food spices have national food safety standards or related standards, and their quality specifications should meet the requirements of national food safety standards or related standards.

Among them, the relevant standards include the current effective national standards, industry standards (including industry recommended standards) and so on.

For example, the synthetic flavor dihydrocoumarin for food should meet the requirements of GB 28363-2012 "National Standard for Food Safety Food Additive Dihydrocoumarin".

GB 30616-2014 "National Standard for Food Safety Food Flavors" is a product quality specification standard for food flavors, which stipulates the definition, technical requirements, labels and other contents of food flavors, food flavors and accessories.

<h1>4 Processing aids for the food industry (enzyme preparations for the food industry, processing aids for the food industry).</h1>

GB 1886.174-2016 "National Standard for Food Safety Food Additives Enzyme Preparations for the Food Industry" is a general standard for the product quality specifications of enzyme preparations for the food industry that is allowed to be used in GB 2760, which mainly stipulates the definition and technical requirements of enzyme preparations for the food industry.

The reply letter of the General Office of the Ministry of Health on the application of standards for enzyme preparations for the food industry stipulates that the production and operation of enzyme preparations for the food industry that have been included in GB 2760 and our ministry's announcement shall be carried out in accordance with the quality requirements and inspection methods stipulated in GB 25594. If the quality requirements of food enzyme preparations previously announced are inconsistent with GB 25594, they shall be implemented in accordance with GB 25594 (GB 25594 "National Standard for Food Safety Enzyme Preparations for Food Industry" has been replaced by GB 1886.174-2016 "National Standard for Food Safety" for Food Additives Enzyme Preparations for food industry).

Processing aids for the food industry, there is no general product quality specification standard, and each variety implements the corresponding national standards or related standards.

<h1>5 Nutrient enhancers</h1>

For the product quality specification standards of the nutritional enhancer, if there are national standards or related standards, the corresponding standards shall be implemented.

In addition, chapter 10 of the Food Safety Law stipulates that food additives, including nutritional enhancers, are stipulated.

Therefore, if there is no separate product quality specification standard for nutritional enhancers, the corresponding product quality specification standards for a single food additive variety can be implemented.

The use of food additives in the food production process, in addition to the use of food additives in accordance with the prescribed scope of use and the amount of use, the safety of food additives themselves is also a very important factor to ensure food safety.
