According to the Guardian, Brighton are close to reaching an agreement with Stuttgart to sign Argentina international Gonzalez for a record £25 million.
The 23-year-old striker has been being tracked by Graham Porter's side for some time, with Brighton trying to sign him last summer but ultimately failing. Although Stuttgart has accepted a similar offer from Fiorentina, it is understood that Gonzalez would prefer to move to the Premier League, where he is also linked to Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur. Brighton have been negotiating for weeks for a transfer fee for the striker, who scored 6 goals in 15 Bundesliga games last season, and have made a breakthrough with transfer prices set to beat expectations.
Gonzalez, who moved from Argentine youth to Stuttgart for £7.65 million in 2018, is currently representing the Argentine national team in the Copa America competition in Brazil. Brighton are facing a busy summer with Arsenal and United reportedly interested in their England defender Ben White, with Arsenal also linked to club midfielder Pesoma.
