According to the official news of the film festival, the competition unit of the 29th Tokyo International Film Festival, which will be held on October 25, took the lead in announcing that two Japanese films were selected. Yu Aoi's new film "Haruko Azumi", directed and starring daigo Matsui, and "Snow Girl", directed and starring Princess Sugino, are listed, which is also the third time that the grand prize is expected to be won after 11 years after "Praying to the Snow" (which won the best film at the 18th Tokyo Film Festival) in 2005.
Sugino's new film "Snow Girl"
The number of films registered in this year's competition department includes 1502 films from 98 countries and regions in the world, an increase of 93 over the previous year. After strict review, 16 works will be shortlisted, and the film festival production director Yoshihiko Yadabe said: "The two Japanese films selected this time are the works made by the two directors who have passed the newcomer period and are looking forward to leaping forward to the next stage, and they all show the Japanese posture in different forms, and you can see the two young directors." In addition, in order to make the world accept, in the selection of films to seek universality and also to seek 'the country itself', this year's two state paintings may achieve this goal from a completely different direction and base them on the international stage. ”
Sugino, who was shortlisted for the main competition with "Snow Girl", screened expired works in the form of a special episode of "Sugino Xifei: Asia's Independent Muse" at the 24th Tokyo Film Festival, and her shooting style was often eclectic and out of the rules. At the 43rd Rotterdam International Film Festival in the Netherlands in 2014, Sugino served as a jury member for the competition films.
This time, Sugino's new work "Snow Girl" is based on the chapter of the same name included in Koizumi Yakumo's original work "Strange Talk" and is given a new interpretation, starring Takashi Aoki, Mayo Yamaguchi, Shiro Sano and others. "It is very honorable to be selected for the competition as a director, and it seems that I have known such a wonderful existence as a snow girl for many years and have been pulled by an invisible force. Please look forward to such a fantasy story between a man and a demon. ”
In addition, Aoi, who starred in "Haruko Azuma's Whereabouts Unknown", said: "Standing on the side of the actor, party B, the idea of the work will be too strong and sometimes uneasy. But the members of the jury have objective feelings, 'Ah, sure enough,' such a feeling of support behind them, so I thank you from within. The film was co-starred by Mitsuki Takahata, Taiga and others.
It is reported that the 29th Tokyo International Film Festival will be held from October 25 to November 3, and the main competition unit film list will be announced later.
