Benchmarked by Alain Shearer's Premier League goalscoring achievements, the legend has averaged 20 goals per season for 13 consecutive years. His 260 goals are simply unattainable and are still the benchmark against which all the other strikers are measured.
Of course, there is another player who broke the 200-goal mark, and he is Rooney. But he ended his career with 52 goals less than his England predecessor Shearer.
Which players currently active in England's top flight are closest to Shearer? Let's take a look...

The South Korean joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2016 and has been on the smooth side ever since. His 74 Premier League goals come from 205 appearances, averaging once every 187 minutes. It's really great to be a winger, and that's not the pride of an Asian.
<h1 class = "pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track = "11" >9</h1>
Former junior wizard Walcott has scored 78 goals for three different clubs: Arsenal, Everton and Southampton. However, most of his goals were scored at Arsenal, which scored 65 for the North London Giants.
<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="13" >8. Christian Benteke, 84 goals</h1>
The Belgian big man has been criticized in the past, having experienced several major goal droughts for current club Crystal Palace... But his record suggests he is a prolific goalscorer. In the aston villa-Liverpool match, Benteke scored 84 goals per 222 minutes. It is indeed very respectable.
< h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="17" >7. Cristiano Ronaldo, 87 goals</h1>
Now back at Manchester United again, CR7 will hopefully take the list to the next two seasons.
He has made three of his six games since re-signing from Juventus in the summer, and his appearances have increased by 84 in his first 196 games for the Red Devils. It is quite possible that the man, who scored 311 league goals for Real Madrid, will spend the rest of his career in England.
<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="20" >6</h1>
England's Euro 2020 hero has evolved into City's goalscoring machine, making 79 appearances for Guardiola's side in 203 games. Earlier in his career, he also played 18 games for Liverpool. The 26-year-old could put his goals to the 200 mark before hanging up.
<h1 class = "pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track = "23" >5. Sadio Mane, 100 goals</h1>
The highest active scorer in the Premier League has never enjoyed a penalty. Since joining the Premier League with Southampton in 2014, Sadio Mane has been an efficient goalscorer. Before Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool acquired him, he scored 21 goals in 67 Games for the Saints and 81 for Anfield.
<h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="27" >4</h1>
Mosalah is only fourth in the Premier League's active scorer. However, the Egyptian is the fastest to score goals, with his 107 goals averaging once every 126 minutes. If he plays more than 238 games, the 29-year-old is likely to be at the top like Shearer. Most of Salah's goals were for Liverpool, but in his youth he scored just two in 13 chelsea games.
<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="30" >3. Romelu Lukaku, 116 goals</h1>
During the 2012/13 loan season, he scored 17 goals for the lower-ranked West Brom and then scored 68 goals in 141 appearances for mid-range side Everton. United scored another 28 goals and three since returning to Chelsea in the summer. If he hadn't moved to Italy for two seasons, but had scored those 47 Serie A goals in the Premier League, he would have approached the 200 mark at the age of 28.
<h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="33" > 2. Jamie Vardy, 125 goals</h1>
The player didn't make it into the Premier League until the age of 27, and his hard work paid off. He scored just five in his first top flight, but since then he has scored 24, 13, 20, 18, 23, 15 and 7 in this season's games. The 34-year-old is a ghost to the defenders.
<h1 class = "pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track = "37" > 1. Harry Kane, 167 goals</h1>
As England captain, Premier League Golden Boot Kane scored his 167 goals at 126 minutes at Tottenham. Now 28, he may still have five years or so to get the 93 points needed to break Shearer's record. An average of 18 goals per season are required.
