Pressurized bandage of the feet

Wei foot is a common ankle injury, if the human ankle joint under the action of external force, more than the maximum range of motion, resulting in the muscles around the joint, ligaments, etc. are pulled, torn, there is redness, swelling, pain and straightening can not walk normally, it is called ankle injury, which is commonly known as the foot.

Most sprains can be treated with the aforementioned RICE principle, while effective bandaging can fix the ankle to avoid repeated sprains of the ankle and shorten the recovery time.

Below will highlight C. Compression

The choice of bandages

For most people, the best option for performing a pressurized bandage is a cloth elastic bandage, sometimes referred to as an "ACE bandage."

Pressurized bandage of the feet

Any brand of bandage can be used. It is easier to use a wider bandage (1.5 to 3 inches wide) when choosing.

Cloth elastic bandages are comfortable to use because they are made of elastic cloth, and when your ankles start to swell, they also expand. And these bandages are reusable.

Individual brands of bandages are accompanied by a metal clip that is used to secure the end of the bandage. If not, it can also be fixed with medical tape or the end of the bandage is tucked into the bandage.

Prepare the bandage

If the bought bandage is not yet wrapped, it needs to be rolled into a tight circle. This way we don't have to stretch or readjust the bandage when we pressurize the bandage.

Bandage placement position

The bandage should be wound from the farthest end of the body, and in the case of the foot, the farthest end is the bottom of the ankle. When it comes to bandaging your ankles, it is easier to place a bandage on the inside of your foot. If you want to bandage someone's ankle, it's best to place a bandage on the outside of your foot.

Extra padding

If necessary, extra padding can be placed on the foot for extra support. It is also possible to place gauze pads on both sides before bandaging the ankles.

Bandage with sports tape

Usually sprains are best bandaged with a cloth bandage, however, sometimes some people who engage in physical activity prefer to use sports tape. The role of sports tape is to bandage an injured ankle, but it is mainly to bandage an uninjured joint before activity to avoid injury, rather than protecting an already injured ankle. Although thinner and stronger sports tape is easier to move than larger and more flexible cloth bandages, it is not recommended to continue exercising after spraining an ankle.

Start with the filler

Wrap the foot and ankle joint with gauze before applying the tape so that the tape does not stick to the surface of the skin. Starting from the soles of the feet, wrap around the feet to the ankles, exposing the heels.

Create an 'anchor point'

Cut a strip of tape long enough to wrap around the heel and wrap around the ankle 1/2 turn. Then glue it up, which is called the 'anchor point', because then the other tapes will also anchor on it. If necessary, an additional piece of tape can be added to ensure a safe fixation.

Make a 'stirrup'

Cut off a strip of tape, secure one end of it to one side of the anchor, then go around under the arch of the foot, secure the other end to the other anchor, and gently press to secure it in place. It is also possible to repeat the above action with a few more pieces of tape, overlapping with the first tape to reinforce the stirrup.

Pressurized bandage of the feet

Draw an 'X' on your foot

Then take a piece of tape, fix the end of the tape to the ankle joint, and then diagonally pass under the arch of the foot, and wrap around the surface of the foot to form an 'X'.

Make a number '8'

Fix the end of a strip of tape to the outside of the ankle, just above the bone. Go around the foot surface at a certain angle, then through the arch of the foot, and finally face up from the other side of the foot, go around the other ankle, and return to the original position. Take another strip of tape and repeat the number 8 to make sure the ankle is firmly held in place and provides adequate support.

Bandage with a cloth elastic bandage

Start bandaging

Place the end of the bandage at the junction of the toes and feet. Wrap a bandage around the soles of your feet first. Hold the end of the bandage with one hand and hold it against the soles of your feet, while the other hand begins to wrap from the outside. Keep the tightness of the winding in place so as not to obstruct blood circulation. A bandage that overlaps about 50% with the previous layer each winding.

Pressurized bandage of the feet

Extend upwards

Wrap the soles of your feet twice, secure the bandage, and then begin to move slowly towards the ankle, making sure the bandage overlaps at least 50% with the previous layer. At the same time, make sure that each layer of bandage is smooth, do not have unnecessary raised folds, and if uneven is found, it can be re-wound.

Wrap the ankles

When wrapped around the ankle, pull the end of the bandage up to the outside of the foot, then around the instep and inside of the ankle, through the heel and then around the instep again through the arch, reaching around the ankle. This movement can be repeated several times to determine complete ankle stabilization.

04

Complete the bandaging

The final bandaging should be done some distance higher than the ankle, which will help stabilize the ankle. Using metal fasteners or medical tape to secure the remaining bandages, you can also stuff the extra bandages into the last layer of the bandage. If the child is bandaged, there may be a lot of excess bandages, and the excess can be cut off.

note

The bandage needs to be untied twice a day to allow blood to circulate in the affected area for about half an hour, and then re-bandaged.

You can buy a few more rolls so that you can have a replacement bandage when cleaning other bandages.

In addition to pressurized dressing, other steps that strictly follow the RICE principles are required.

If numbness and tingling begin to appear at the bandage site, it means that the bandage is too tightly wrapped and the bandage needs to be untied immediately.

By moving upwards from the farthest part of the ankle, you can avoid the bandage cutting off blood circulation in the foot to produce a tourniquet-like effect.
