On 30 October, the nomination period for the 7th Legislative Council election of the HKSAR began, with nominations from the local direct election, the functional sector and the newly added Electoral Commission sector. The nomination period for the 7th Legislative Council election ends on 12 November.
The 7th Legislative Council elections of the HKSAR will be held on 19 December, with 20 MPs elected by local constituencies, 30 MPs elected from functional constituencies and 40 MPs from the Election Committee constituencies, for a total of 90 MPs.
A spokesman for the Electoral Affairs Office pointed out that the relevant legislation in Hong Kong has clear requirements for nominees in local constituency elections, functional constituency elections and election commission constituencies, such as must be registered voters in local constituencies aged 21 or above, and must normally reside in Hong Kong within 3 years prior to nomination.
The spokesman said that the Election Management Committee had appointed the Election Directors of 10 local constituencies, 28 functional constituencies and the Electoral Commission constituencies to handle nomination forms and other election matters. Nominees must personally send the completed nomination form and election deposit to the relevant Election Officer on Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
In addition, under the relevant legislation, the Candidate Qualification Board (QC) may, in deciding whether a candidate has been validly nominated for a constituency or sector, request any other information that the QC deems appropriate. At present, the AQRA also requires nominees to complete and return the "Candidate Qualification Review Supplementary Information Form".
The Speaker reminded that nominees should submit nomination forms as early as possible so that if there are any errors or omissions in the form, they can also have time to correct them before the nomination deadline. (Reporter Jin Dong, Zhu Dan)
