What happened to those who once had a sense of purpose?

A long-term survey of graduates at Yale University in the United States showed that 3% of students have formulated clear life goals for themselves before graduation.

25 years later, when Yale University conducted another survey, the results showed:

27% of graduates without goals, life is not satisfactory, and their mouths are full of complaints;

60% of students with goals but vagueness have become the middle and lower classes of society, and although their lives are stable, they have no special achievements;

10% of those who have short-term clear goals become middle-class and upper-class people in society, and the probability of achieving short-term goals is very high;

Almost all of the 3% of people with clear long-term goals have become elites or business leaders in society.

Which of the above 4 types of people would you like to be?

Which of the above 4 types of people are you in now?

Don't rush to answer, let's go down first.

What happened to those who once had a sense of purpose?

01Where are you going?

As there used to be a golden saying, called: The best time to plant a tree is 10 years ago, followed by now.

So even if your current state is in 27% of the 4 categories, as long as you are willing to spend time thinking every day, constantly reading articles, brushing vibrato, fast hands, and looking at other people's life status, you may find some "aha moment" of "I want to do this too".

Once, when I read the article "Liu Run Talks to Huashan", I saw that Teacher Huashan had a long-term goal:

He wished he could write books that stacked up to about his height.

This goal touched me.

At that time, I had only published 2 books on psychology, and those 2 were not thick, so I folded them up and put them on the ground, and found that even the instep of my feet had not exceeded.

Still, I made up the picture in my head for the next 50 years:

If I publish a book a year in the future, I will be able to catch up with my height by the time I am in my 80s. (By then, when you are older and have a back, you may be able to write a few few less ^-^)

But this is the endgame, I can't stand writing books every day, what kind of state do I want to write in?

When I took a break to brush vibrato, the life status of a travel blogger instantly fascinated me:

Almost every few months, she would go from place to place, stopping and walking along the way, writing articles and taking videos.

I'm curious, what kind of financial level supports her apparently unprofitable life?

In detail, it turns out that people have long achieved financial independence through asset allocation and passive income.

So, the first "key result" on "what to do" was marked under the big goal of "50 books".

02 Life OKR

As you may have seen, this is obviously a typical OKR structure.

OKR is an approach from chip giant Intel that was carried forward by Google.

O (Object, Goal): Write 50 books, books, etc.;

KR1 (Key Result): Passive income achieves financial independence, no longer need to use "time" to "exchange money".

With the KR1, there will naturally be kr2 and KR3.

What is KR2?

How about going to a brand new place every few months without a healthy body?

Thus, the second "what to do" question became clear again.

KR2: A healthy body supports you to appreciate the local customs and avoid staying at home for physical reasons.

Anything else?

There should be at least KR3, but I haven't thought of it yet, so I can empty it first, and then fill it in when I have a satisfactory answer later.

KR3: To be filled in.

With 2 clear KRs, what's next?

The answer is to continue disassembling.

For example, KR1 can be broken down into two small goals based on an article we wrote earlier:

1. 4.68 million investable amount;

2. Craftsmanship with an average annualized income of 10%.

KR2 can also be disassembled into:

1. Exercise for 25 minutes a day;

2. Meditate for 5 to 10 minutes a day.

The KR2 has been dismantled to the end and turned into a daily executable action, but the KR1 can continue to be dismantled.

Small O1: 4.68 million investable amount:

--Jr. KR1: Increase in salary income earned in the workplace;

--Small KR2: increase extra-wage income;

--Small KR3: Avoid unnecessary consumption.

Small O2: Average annualized 10% return:

--Small KR1: Cognition and Methods of Asset Allocation

--Little KR2: The cognition and method of low-historical percentile fixed investment of the ultra-long-term development track fund

--Little KR3: The perception and method of identifying fund managers and being able to "hold" them for a long time

By this point, as you may have seen, these little KRs can continue to be dismantled and are made up of a myriad of strategies, which is what I will be dabbling in for a long time and writing articles for many of the next few days.

Why write an article?

First, after all, Mr. Feynman once said: Teaching is the best way to learn;

Second, this content, including this article, can be structured in the future and then written into some of the 50 books.

03 Your life OKR

Give you a clear analysis of my life OKR, are you clear about your own life OKR?

Management guru Peter Drucker once said:

We always overestimate what we can do in 1 year, but we tend to underestimate what we can do in the next 5 years.

If you can't decide on the OKR of your life for a while and a half, you can start with 5 years of OKR.

You might as well spend 15 to 20 minutes trying to imagine that after 5 years, the best version of you will look like.

Think clearly and clearly, and then use the OKR method to dismantle it until it is dismantled into "executable actions", or into "strategies or methods that need to be understood and learned".

04 Tracking

But OKR is not set once and ends, there are more tracks and iterations in the future.

Our brains like concreteness and hate abstraction, so when you break down an OKR from just a big goal to a small goal, a small direction, rather than a specific action, you will find that you still don't know how to start.

For example, running a "contrarian growth knowledge planet" is a small goal of mine, but how can more people perceive the value of this planet?

So I have to work on both "form" and "content".

Formally, you must ask yourself to publish the latest content every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:30 a.m.

This requirement is not difficult for me, because I get up at 5:00 every morning to write 500 words without moving, I can write one article every 2 days, and after writing 3 articles 7 days a week, there is also rich production capacity as a buffer.

In terms of content, what I write has to meet the needs of the members of the planet.

Since the target users I serve are mainly 24-42-year-old professionals, these users are not whimsical people who expect to get rich overnight;

Instead, it is a person who has achieved slowly becoming richer and financially independent in 10 years, who is willing to work hard every day but is not clear about his goals, who lacks strategy for action, and who is more difficult to adhere to.

Because I used to be such a person, I have enough sense of empathy and empathy for the pain points of these users, so my actions can fall into teaching the strategies and methods that users can operate in a language that users can understand and understand.

05 Iteration

The action is clear, and the weekly workload can start to roll over, but in the process of specific execution, you will inevitably encounter card points.

Albert Einstein once said: The so-called ignorance is to look forward to always using the same method to expect different results.

So when encountering a stuck point, the iterative method is a necessary step.

How to iterate?

There are two paths:

The first path is called crossing the river by feeling the stones.

This way is usually used to do a project from the ancients, from 0 to 1. For example, the recent sodium-ion battery, if you want to develop a new type of battery with lower cost, higher energy storage efficiency, faster charging and safer, countless times of exploration, trial and error are essential, because there is no previous experience, you have to feel the stones to cross the river.

The second path is called: crossing the river by feeling the predecessors.

The key to the development of human beings so far, the better generation than the next generation is that we can always stand on the shoulders of giants and touch the predecessors to cross the river. But there is a certain degree of narcissism in the individual subconscious, so that some people have clear goals, but are ashamed or disdainful of touching their predecessors to cross the river, and they are "good" at repeatedly making wheels.

One of the most tragic examples I've ever heard of is when a citizen scientist spent a lot of his life, endured countless challenges, and finally, reinvented calculus. When he published his "academic achievements", he found that his years of hard work had been done in vain, and few people could truly appreciate the old man's inner collapse.

Therefore, if we do not want similar tragedies to repeat the same mistakes, do not say "blank mentality", a large number of contacts, connections, and reading of predecessors who are involved in their own target direction and their works are necessary steps to help us smoothly "touch the predecessors to cross the river" and improve the original actions.
