Robert Louis Stevenson was an English novelist born on 13 November 1850 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father was Thomas Stevenson and his grandfather was Robert Stevenson, who, like Stevenson's great-grandfather, was a well-known lighthouse designer and engineer. So he inherited from them a character that loves adventure and loves the ocean. Because of his mother, Stevenson was also a descendant of Gilbert Eliot-Murray-Kiningmond, the first Earl of Minto, and was related to Arthur St. Clair, a general during the American Revolutionary War.
Stevenson's maternal grandfather, Louis Balfour, was a professor and pastor of ethics, so Stevenson often spent holidays at home as a teenager. Stevenson once said, "I still often wonder now, what did I inherit from my maternal grandfather?" I must assume that, in fact, he likes to preach, and so do I. Although I have never heard of it being preserved, and we don't want to hear it. ”
Stevenson inherited a weak lung (perhaps tuberculosis) from his mother, Margaret Balfour, so Stevenson often stayed in bed in the winter, while his nurse spent a long time at the bedside reading the Bible and the life of the ancient Christian vows to young Stevenson. In the summer, Stevenson was encouraged to play outdoors, and at this time he became an active and carefree child.
At the age of 11, Stevenson's health had improved, so his parents sent him to school in Edinburgh to prepare for the future university of Edinburgh, and they planned to make Stevenson a lighthouse engineer. During this period, Stevenson read extensively in literary books, and he particularly liked Shakespeare, Walter Scott, John Benren, and One Thousand and One Nights.
Stevenson entered the University of Edinburgh at the age of 17, but Stevenson soon discovered that he had no talent for science or physics to become an engineer. After a trip with his father, Stevenson discovered that he was more fascinated by the wondrous stories of the islands and coasts they visited than building lighthouses. Although Stevenson's father, Thomas, was stern, he eventually supported Stevenson in continuing his literary career.
Stevenson's representative works include the novels "Treasure Island", "Doctor Incarnation", "Kidnapping", "Katrina" and so on. In the early days, he traveled everywhere and accumulated resources for his creation, and later devoted himself to the creation of novels, achieving great achievements, and his style of works was unique and changeable, which had a great influence on modernist literature in the 20th century. By the mid-20th century, critics had made new evaluations of his work, beginning to examine Stevenson and incorporating his work into Western classics, listing him as one of the greatest writers of the 19th century. On December 3, 1894, Stevenson died suddenly at home at the age of 44.

1. From the book "Doctor Incarnation", it is not difficult to see that Stevenson believes that in the human subconscious and somewhere dark and deep, inaccessible inner corners, good and evil coexist. The protagonist of the book, Dr. Jie, a well-known and well-known benevolent person, cannot resist the sensations of evil and wild factors hidden in nature, and invents a potion that can unreservedly reveal the mentality that is usually suppressed under the appearance of hypocrisy; at the same time, with the change of personality and mentality, the appearance of the body will also change.
2. "Doctor Incarnation" is one of Stevenson's proud masterpieces, it is a work of considerable imagination, and because the characters in the book, Jacko and Hyde, who are very different in personality, are impressive, the term "Jekyll and Hyde" later became synonymous with the "dual personality" of psychology. This book is a pioneer of psychological fiction, with its vivid and vivid narrative tone, tight and exciting, gripping story development process, and it reads more like a tense and suspenseful film detective work.
Page 3 Background of writing
Dr. Incarnate is Stevenson's adventure novel, but his creation is not limited to this path, but goes to a variety of styles. This book is a unique work, but also Stevenson's proud work. In this work, the author gives full play to his imagination and makes a man who is a gentleman by day become a demon at night, releasing the evil in his body. This work is known as the forerunner of psychological fiction, and its influence is generally visible.
Dr. Incarnate is a gripping, addictive, and thought-provoking novel. In general, few people stop halfway through the book, despite the sense of horror between the lines. Through Mr. Aterson, we learned the basic situation of the above two gentlemen. Mr. Aterson said that Mr. Hyde was a very cold and evil man, and once this man knocked down a child, and even stepped on it, stepping over the child without showing any pity or compassion that should be shown.
For a long time, Jacko was trapped by the duality of his own personality, yearning for self-discipline on the one hand and indulgence on the other. The good self-disciplined self is often ashamed of the evil indulgent behavior, while the evil indulgent self is often dissatisfied with the restraint of the good self-discipline.
Biography
Dr. Henry Jack: A decent gentleman in his 50s, he is friendly and sociable, but sometimes suffers from the struggle between the dual personalities of evil and good in his heart.
Jekyll: A rational and honest good man – the original personality. Will think deeply about the strengths and weaknesses of everything. Unlike the gentle appearance, there is a strong sense of justice. Before he was born, he was always troubled by the "evil" lurking in his body, and spent his whole life fighting it.
Hyde: The hedonist with no moral heart—the "evil" personality. Instinctively wanting to hurt everything, malicious anti-hero. Whether it was because Jekyll had evil lurking in his heart, or whether Jekyll was too lacking in evil to "only this extent" is unknown.
Page 4 Summary of contents
Dr. Incarnate begins with Dr. Henry Jay's will being made public, letting the reader know that if the Doctor dies, his estate will be left to Mr. Edward Hyde. The lawyer known as Mr. Aterson is responsible for all matters of law.
The scholar Henry Jacco believes that man is a whole composed of a variety of contradictory and independent characters, and he is a typical case. For a long time, Jacko was trapped by the duality of his own personality, yearning for self-discipline on the one hand and indulgence on the other. In order to alleviate his ambivalence, Jacko tried to invent a potion that separated the two with drugs.
Unexpectedly, after taking the potion, he turned into the embodiment of evil in his own body - Mr. Hyde, who was short but young and strong, cruel, ruthless, violent, and evil. Since then, he has secretly used potions to change back and forth between these two identities, as Mr. Hyde went out to violently hurt people, and after returning to Jack, he felt guilty and uneasy, but he could not suppress the impulse to become Mr. Hyde. The purely evil self took over the body and became a villain named Edward Hyde.
At first, Dr. Jekyll just tried, trying to confide in certain voices from the bottom of his heart, but then Mr. Hyde grew stronger and stronger in him, and he kept Dr. Jack for less and less time. Even the body that does not need the potion will become Hyde on its own, and more and more frequently. He was afraid that he would become Mr. Hyde forever. In the end, Hyde kills someone, but by this time, the potion has run out. The Doctor asked the employer to buy it in the form of a note, but he could no longer buy the pure medicine he had bought that time, so Hyde could no longer become Dr. Jekyll. Jacko and Hyde continue to transform between the two forms, and finally in despair and distress, they leave a will to commit suicide, ending their contradictory lives.
