The takeaway brother was admitted to the Southwest University of Finance and Finance, and he sent a message to the new freshman

623 points!

At 1:00 a.m., Wang Wei was alone in the Internet café to check his college entrance examination scores, "Chinese 114 points, mathematics 118 points, English 129 points, history 81 points, chemistry 91 points, biology 90 points, a total score of 623 points" As each subject score came into view, his eye sockets gradually moistened.

"Sending messages to friends and relatives, they are more excited than me," Wang Wei said when sharing his mental journey at the "Better Young" online exchange meeting launched by the Meituan Group, "My father who works in Guangdong is very relieved to see my achievements, and he feels that at least my efforts are rewarded."

On the evening of August 20, in order to help more than 20 prospective college students from third- and fourth-tier cities enrich their horizons and better plan their university life, Meituan invited Ke Jie, the youngest eight-time champion in the history of Chinese Go, Wang Wei, a Meituan rider with 623 points in the college entrance examination, and Zhang Dongdong, the first secretary of the outstanding village for poverty alleviation, as the keynote speakers, and more than 20 students who are about to enter the university to jointly hold a warm online exchange meeting to talk about their dreams, choices and responsibilities.

The reason why Wang Wei can become the keynote speaker is not unrelated to his own "legendary" experience, which can bring more inspiration to the future planning of the quasi-freshmen.

"Delivering takeaways is physical work, but also technical work"

Everything is difficult at the beginning, which is a common condition for novice riders. Previously, a deputy director in Beijing experienced delivering takeaways, and only earned 41 yuan in 12 hours on the first day, while the liberal arts postdoctoral fellow of the Department of Sociology of Peking University ran 9 orders on the first day and earned 72 yuan in the first day.

For the hard work of delivering food, Wang Wei also felt the same. It is understood that Wang Wei previously studied at China Agricultural University, and due to his estrangement from his studies, he chose to drop out of school in his junior year in 2017. Since then, he has worked several jobs: as a tutor for elementary school students, as a porter in a garment factory... What made him feel the most was the experience of delivering takeaways.

In the Spring Festival of 2020, because of the epidemic situation, Wang Wei returned to his hometown in Xiangyang, Hubei Province, from a field worker, "I feel that I can't be so idle, I see a lot of takeaway brothers on the road delivering food, it is very fulfilling and busy, I moved my mind to deliver takeaway."

However, delivering takeaways is not as easy as imagined. Wang Wei said that at the beginning of running with the master, it felt quite simple. But in June 2020, after his first trip on the road, his view of the job changed. The first day of food delivery, due to unfamiliar road conditions, especially not smooth, some meals were not delivered in time, overtime; encountered customers who are not very good at communication, need to be patient to explain...

That day Wang Wei only earned a few dozen yuan in the end. When he went to bed at night, he thought, "Let's leave the next day," but hesitated again, "Since you've done it, you can't concede defeat." This time, he chose to stick with it.

"At the beginning, I really didn't expect that the work of the delivery guy would also require so many skills." Over time, Wang Wei found that the rider is not only a "physical work", but also a "technical work", which requires familiarity with road conditions, app operations, and dealing with many people. The job also gave him a regular schedule, "at least not as late as before."

After running for three months, Wang Wei decided to retake the college entrance examination, "after working, I found that knowledge and academic qualifications are still very important for ordinary people." The rider's work exercises perseverance and time management skills, and he quickly integrates into the intense learning.

On June 7, 2021, Wang Wei walked into the examination room with determination, and this time he knew exactly where he was going.

College students can try takeaway riders part-time

The day after checking the scores, Wang Wei did not start to relax like most of his classmates, but chose to continue to deliver takeaways.

"I can't stay idle, to be honest, I still like the job of delivering takeaways, the income is good, and I can learn a lot." Wang Wei said that he can receive about 30 or 40 orders a day and earn 4,5,000 yuan a month. If nothing else, until he went to school in September to report, he would continue to deliver takeaways, "after so much training, walking into the campus again, I will definitely concentrate on learning, do things more calmly and meticulously."

At the "Better Young" online exchange meeting, when a student asked Wang Wei about the views of college students on the part-time job across the screen, Wang Wei frankly said that first of all, as a student, you still have to focus on academics; secondly, if you want to exercise yourself during school, you must choose a formal platform and recruitment channels.

"If conditions permit, students can try to become a rider, not only to exercise their minds, overcome timidity, but also to improve their social resilience." Wang Wei said. In his view, part-time work can make him more independent, while also alleviating the family's financial burden.

In addition to Wang Wei, in the "Better Young" online exchange meeting, Ke Jie, Zhang Dongdong and other keynote speakers also combined their own experiences to encourage prospective college students to stick to their dreams and assume the responsibilities of young people. Ke Jie suggested that students must try more fun things in college life. Zhang Dongdong said with encouragement: "Reading is self-confidence, to cultivate their social responsibility, to try more during the school period, there will be many opportunities in the future." ”

It is reported that Wang Wei has been admitted to Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, majoring in finance, and in a short time, he will soon leave for Chengdu to start a new life.
