Trudeau's Liberal Party again defeated the Conservatives in the October 21 general election, winning 157 of the 338 seats in the House of Representatives and successfully re-electing.

Including Trudeau, the number of new cabinet members increased from 35 before the election to 37. With 18 female cabinet members, Trudeau's earlier commitment to continue gender balance was fulfilled. It also created a new post of Deputy Prime Minister and added two new ministries. Former Foreign Minister Freeland became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, and former Minister of Infrastructure Champagne became Minister for Foreign Affairs. It is also the first time since February 2006 that the Federal Government has reinstated the appointment of Deputy Prime Minister.

Champagne, who served as Minister of International Trade and Minister of Infrastructure and Community Development, became Foreign Minister in the new Cabinet. He has a Chinese name: Shang Pengfei.

Former Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion, Wu Fengyi, remains the only Chinese cabinet member in the Trudeau administration, and her responsibilities have expanded to become Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade. She told the media that Canada is the only country in the seven major Western industrial countries (G7) to have free trade agreements with other six countries, and she is looking forward to helping Canadian companies expand the global market.

There are 7 new faces in this cabinet. Among them, Menticino held the important position of Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.

Canada's new member of Parliament was sworn in on November 19. The House of Representatives will resume on 5 December, when the Liberal government will present its policy address.
