On the shore of Shanwei Pinqing Lake, the 24,000-square-meter mangrove forest is surrounded by a green belt. In this Chinese mainland largest coastal lagoon, white dolphins can occasionally be seen jumping out of the water. Huizhou Kaozhou Yanghao Zhaolou Wetland Park, the landscape boardwalk extends into the distance, and the mangroves planted on both sides of the boardwalk have become an excellent habitat for water birds.
It lasted 21 days, spanning more than 4,000 kilometers of coastline in southern Guangdong, traveling through 8 coastal cities, searching for coastal mangroves, witnessing biodiversity, and feeling the most beautiful marine ecology in southern Guangdong. On the occasion of this year's World Oceans Day, the Department of Natural Resources of Guangdong Province, together with many mainstream media such as Nanfang Daily, launched the "Guangdong Nature Media Coastal Trip" interview and publicity activities.
On more than 4,000 kilometres of coastline, mangroves can be found everywhere. Between the sea and the land, the green is full, and the flocks of birds rise and fall in it. According to statistics, the total area of mangroves in Guangdong is currently about 14,000 hectares, ranking first in the country and accounting for 56.9% of the total mangrove area of 24,600 hectares in the country.

The media field interview activities selected coastal cities related to the "one heart, two poles and two fulcrums" of the Guangdong Coastal Economic Belt, including Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Zhongshan, Zhanjiang, Shanwei, Yangjiang, Shantou and other places. During the event, media reporters focused on Guangdong's mangrove forests, coastal wetlands, marine ecology and marine economy.
▎ Shanwei seedlings: "This is not an economic account, but an ecological account"
At the Meihai Mangrove Nursery in Meilong Town, Haifeng County, Shanwei, the mangrove forests of different varieties such as autumn eggplant and tung flower trees have grown to about one person tall and spread along the coastline. In front of the mangrove forest is a row of moso bamboo. Luo Jingqiu, manager of the nursery, told reporters that this row of moso bamboo was specially bought from Luhe and inserted on the beach like a "comb", which can protect mangrove seedlings from waves and silt.

Luo Jingqiu has been running a mangrove nursery in the local area for more than a decade. "When I first arrived, there were several farms along the coast, and the farmers were ready to continue to expand to the seaside. In this way, this area will all become a fish pond and shrimp pond, which is extremely unfavorable to the protection of the coastline and wetland mangroves. Luo Jingqiu told reporters. Since the location of the nursery was a mudflat suitable for mangrove growth, he and a few friends completed the relevant formalities and began to plant mangroves.
Luo Jingqiu also encountered setbacks at the beginning. "Mangroves grow slowly, and floating water lilies grow upstream are often washed around by heavy rains and then washed ashore by the waves. Floating water lotus rotted into silt on the shore, crushing many seedlings. ”
To this end, on the one hand, the local natural resources department cleans up aquatic plants such as floating water lilies in the upstream waters to solve the problem from the source. On the other hand, Luo Jingqiu bought moso bamboo from Luhe and inserted it into the mudflat in front of the mangrove forest at a certain distance to divert the water flow and prevent silt from accumulating. In several typhoons in recent years, this mangrove forest has stood the test.

With more than ten years of capital investment and careful cultivation, Luo Jingqiu has a deep affection for this mangrove forest. "For me, this is not an economic account, but an 'ecological account'. As long as the mangrove forest thrives and can continue to fix the embankment, it is worth it, and it will not think too much about economic returns. ”
Fu Guodong, deputy director of the Shanwei Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources, told reporters that in recent years, mangroves have "spread" to the city center - Pinqing Lake, located in the center of the urban area, is known as the "mother lake" of Shanwei, and while completing the dredging project and beach cleaning project, it has also planted 24,000 square meters and 80,000 mangroves, which has become a bright business card of Shanwei City.
▎ Huizhou Kaozhouyang: Mangrove protection has become an important part of the construction of beautiful bays
Today, walking on the Kaozhou Ocean Water Landscape Boardwalk on the Nongping Peninsula of Huizhou City, the green mountains and rivers come into view, and it is difficult for tourists to imagine that a few years ago, it almost became a "pool of stagnant water".
Kao Chau Ocean is a drowning valley bay that extends inland from the Red Bay. In recent years, due to the disorderly and large-scale development of nearby residents in the Kaozhou Ocean area, the water quality pollution is serious, the growth of mangroves in the region has shown a trend of shrinking and degrading, the habitat of birds and benthic organisms has been destroyed, and fishery resources have gradually declined.

"In addition, the Kaozhou Ocean is a semi-enclosed water body, the mouth is narrow and wide, the narrowest point is only 253 meters, and the environmental deterioration makes the water exchange capacity weaker, and the solid waste that washes into the Kaozhou Ocean with the land source water body gradually accumulates and settles." The conservation situation of the Kaozhou Ocean is not optimistic. Qiu Guangli, deputy director of the Huizhou Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources, introduced.
In 2015, Huizhou City organized the implementation of the "KaozhouYang Beautiful Bay Construction Project", with a total investment of 95.3993 million yuan. Among them, it includes landfilling and remediating 3,000 acres of mudflats, planting 8 million mangrove trees, building marine environment monitoring and observation stations, building landscape boardwalks, ecological tourism and science popularization corridors, viewing platforms and bird watching pavilions and other supporting facilities.
"Huizhou Kaozhouyang will become the largest mangrove planting base in the country, and the planting and protection of mangroves will become an important part of the construction of beautiful bays." Yu Songqing, secretary of the party group and director of the Huidong County Natural Resources Bureau, introduced that Huizhou City has built more than 100 acres of mangrove seedling bases in Xunliao Town and Kaozhouyang in Huidong County, providing high-quality seedling resources for the planting of Kaozhouyang mangrove forests. According to statistics, the entire Kaozhou Ocean has newly planted mangrove forest area of about 5,000 acres. The mangrove forests planted in the early days in the sea areas of Kaozhou Yanghengshiwan, Wangjingzhou, Dahua and Baisha Village have become forests.
