The G20 Leaders' Summit opened on October 30, local time, in Rome, Italy, in a combination of online and offline. The two-day meeting will focus on major global issues such as covid-19, driving economic recovery and addressing climate change.
According to the schedule, the first phase of the meeting held on the 30th will focus on the topic of "global economy and global health", and the second and third phases of the meeting on the 31st will focus on topics such as "climate change and environment" and "sustainable development" respectively.
Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, the rotating chairman of the G20, said before the meeting that the summit "marked a return to multilateralism" after experiencing isolation and "isolationist darkness" caused by the pandemic.
At present, the spread of the new crown epidemic has been delayed, the international economic pattern and the global governance system have accelerated changes and adjustments, and the recovery of the world economy is facing many instabilities and uncertainties. China calls on the G20, as the main platform for international economic cooperation, to adhere to true multilateralism, carry forward the spirit of solidarity and cooperation, seek common ground while reserving differences, build consensus on fighting the epidemic, restoring the world economy and promoting inclusive and sustainable development, and work together to address common challenges.
Founded in 1999, the G20 consists of 20 parties, including China, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union. The G20 members are broad and representative, including major developed and emerging market economies, play a pivotal role in global affairs and become an effective multilateral mechanism for jointly addressing global issues.
