Xinmin Evening News (reporter Jin Minyi) found a star-headed woodpecker on a willow tree. Yesterday, the reporter learned from Gongqing Forest Park that there was a "new friend" in the park, which is also the 109th species of birds found in the park.

On September 25, a "new friend" was found in a willow tree in the park's bird watching promenade, the Star-headed Woodpecker. It is small in size, feeds on pests such as tianniu and spade insects, and belongs to the "three haves" protected animals (terrestrial wild animals protected by the state that are beneficial or have important economic and scientific research value).

When a woodpecker pecks at a tree, its head moves forward almost twice as fast as sound in air (334 m/s). There is a layer of spongy bone around its brain, which contains fluid, which can play a role in "shock absorption", so there is no need to worry about it having headaches or even concussions. It is reported that this is the 109th species of birds found in the park.

In addition, an enthusiastic citizen recently rescued an injured Nighthawk near the children's playground in the park and sent it to the park management office. After identification, this is an ordinary nighthawk, which also belongs to the "three haves" protected animal. The park contacted the relevant departments of wild protection and finally placed it in the Shanghai Wildlife Conservation Service Center.

It is reported that ordinary nighthawks are "old friends" in the park, and at this time of year, they are often recorded by bird lovers with cameras. Because it is a nocturnal bird, it often inhabits the ground or on lateral branches during the day, and with a body color similar to the bark, it is not easy to find it.
