Menzi is a small character in "Dream of the Red Chamber", mainly appearing in the fourth time in the book, the author used the gourd monk's chaotic judgment of the gourd case to save photos for the statue of The Door. In the 87th edition of "Dream of the Red Chamber", the image of Menzi has a small moustache, a black mole on the bridge of the nose, and is shrewd and sinister.
In the first eighty times, Menzi's life can be divided into three stages.

(i) The small shami of the gourd temple

Xiao Shami, in Buddhism, refers to a male monk who was a young monk who had received the Ten Precepts and was under the age of twenty. At the age of twenty, he received the Great Ordination (full ordination) and was called a bhikkhu, commonly known as a monk. When Menzi was making a small shami in the Gourd Temple, he was still a minor child.
There are many reasons for entering the Buddhist Gate, and the reason why the disciples were young and became a monk is not explained in the book. Some children are born with wisdom roots, deep Buddha roots, like Xuanzang, it is obvious that Menzi is not such a spiritual child; like Miaoyu, who is sent to the monastery because of his frailty and illness, asking the bodhisattva to bless him to grow up safely. This doesn't seem to be the case either. In addition, there are parents who repay their wishes and send their children in; because their families are poor, their parents are forced by their lives to send Buddhist monks to find food to eat. After the gourd temple caught fire, the door had nowhere to look, perhaps he was an orphan taken in by the temple. In the old days, some temples and Taoist temples had examples of orphans being taken in.
The temple is not a clear water gate and has its own source of income. In the past, some temples in the mountains and forests had their own land and rented out the land to collect the rent; in addition, the temples with many houses could also rent out the excess houses to collect a certain amount of rent. For example, the Xing Xiuyan family once rented the Panxiang Temple where Miaoyu practiced. There are also believers who give alms, or are hired to go out to do things, pray for blessings and disasters, and exceed the spirits of the dead, and can receive some labor fees. The QingXuguan and Mantou Nunnery in "Dream of the Red Chamber" rely on the alms of these dignitaries and nobles in Jia Province. In the twenty-eighth time in the book, before the Dragon Boat Festival, Jia Yuanchun sent a eunuch to send one hundred and twenty-two pieces of silver, asking Jia Zhen to take the children of Jia Fu to Qingxuguan to fight for three days of peace.
Monks are not so tall, not all monks have a bodhichitta heart and have to undertake the cause of Rulai, and there have been few monks like Xuanzang for thousands of years. It's more about pleasing people like menzi.
In addition to meditating and chanting the sutras on a daily basis in the temple, Xiao Shami also serves tea and water to serve people, and does some chores such as carrying water and cleaning. When Menzi was doing xiao shami in the Gourd Temple, jia Yu Village, a disgraced Confucian, went to Beijing to seek a meritorious name, but because of the shortage of coils, he had to live in the Gourd Temple to sell literature for a living. In the eighty-seven version of "Dream of the Red Chamber", there is a shot of Xiao Shami sending tea to Jia Yu Village, this detail enriches the daily scene of the two people, Xiao Shami has served tea to Jia Yu Village, delivered meals, ran through legs, and naturally there is a simple conversation, and the two people are poor friends. For Xiao Shami's birth experience, Jia Yu Village may not have the heart to know, but about Jia Yu Village's past, Xiao Sha Mi has a heart.
< h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" > (2) enter the system as a door

Due to an accidental fire, the Gourd Temple was burned down, Xiao Shami had nowhere to live, he wanted to go to other temple doors to practice, but he could not bear the cool situation, thinking that the business of Yamen was also light and lively, and he took advantage of the young man to grow his hair and entered the system to make a door. In the eyes of men, entering the system as a civil servant is not to serve the people, but a business that can obtain benefits.
Menzi( in the old days) refers to the errands of guarding, conveying, standing and other chores in the yamen. Being able to enter the system as a doorman at least shows that this person is literate. Every morning and evening classes in the monastery, the monks have to recite the scriptures and practice, the days are long, the ears are full of eyes, they can also read and hyphenate, and naturally they have also learned some doorways to enter and exit, observe the color of speech. Besides, he was not originally a humble monk, and from his later performance, he was quite clever and careful.
In any case, Xiao Shami wore a uniform, boots and hats, and became a low-level official.
The Buddhist gate is not pure, and it is bustling in the red dust. Of course, Menzi is uneasy that just life is guaranteed, both enter the system, inevitably have the idea of going up, like Menzi's birth, no money and no background, can not be like Jia Rong to donate money to a five-pin dragon forbidden lieutenant, nor can it be like Jia Yucun with learning to enter the army and the first, so can only take other paths. For menzi, having a good relationship with the boss and giving advice for the boss before and after the saddle is an economically convenient upward path. In menzi's self-consideration, he thinks that he still has some advantages in this regard.
When he met Jia Yucun again, who was reinstated, Menzi did something that he felt proud of himself, and he became related to his immediate boss, Jia Yucun, and offered a "wonderful" plan.
In the fourth time, in order to buy yinglian (that is, the future Xiangling), Xue Pan fought against the family slaves to kill Feng Yuan, and the case was reported to Ying Tianfu, and the prefect Jia Yucun listened angrily and said, "How can there be such a fart!" Kill people and go away in vain, and you can't get them again! Therefore, the official who issued the signature immediately took the murderers to torture them, and was preparing to issue the signature, and the door standing on the side of the case made a look, Jia Yucun would understand, so he stopped his hand, immediately withdrew from the hall, and came to the secret room with the doorman, and when there were two of them left, the door and Jia Yucun had a long conversation. The original text is long and will not be quoted.
Menzi's words have three meanings:
The first is to remind Jia Yucun of the day they had poor friends in the Gourd Temple. This trick worked very well, Jia Yucun listened to it like "thunder shock", immediately put down the official shelf, smiled and joined hands with the door to weigh the deceased, and let him sit.
Second, Menzi told Jia Yucun about the origin and role of the "talisman" circulating in the official field. "These four families have relatives, one is damaged, one is prosperous, supports and decorations, and all have taken care of them." Ordinary subordinate officials "If you don't know, if you offend such a family for a while, not only are you an official, but you are afraid that you will not even be able to save your life!" And reminded Jia Yu Village to supplement the Ying Tianfu, but also because Of Jia Zheng and Prince Tengdi operated Baoju (jia Yu Village was of course aware of this matter).
The third is to tell Jia Yucun the ins and outs of the case and how to cut it. First of all, Jia Yucun bluffed and signed people, and then made up a set of words, let Jia Yucun use the feudal superstition of Fuluan to ask Xian to say it to deceive the people, and secretly instructed the kidnapper to tell lies, and once he cooperated three times, the case was arbitrarily judged.
Menzi's idea allowed the criminal Xue Pan to go unpunished, so that Feng Yuan was wronged, and Yinglian lost the only opportunity to reunite with her parents.

(iv) to punish the army

The reason why Menzi dared to give Jia Yucun a positive idea was that he thought that he knew jia Yucun's character, past, and social relations well.
In the past, Jia Yu Village sold literature for a living, and it was Yinglian's father Zhen Shiyin who gave silver and made winter clothes, and Jia Yu Village was able to enter Beijing to catch the exam. Zhen Shiyin was a great benefactor of Jia Yu Village. Later, Jia Yucun was dismissed from his post for the abuse of greed, and when he was idle, he was introduced to become Lin Daiyu's teacher, and because of this teacher-student relationship, Daiyu's father, Lin Ruhaitou's brother Jia Zheng (that is, Lin Daiyu's uncle), Zhou Quan assisted, and Jia Yucun Fang supplemented Ying Tianfu.
Knowing that it is enough, there is no need to shake it all out, shake it out, let the parties feel the meaning of blackmail. Therefore, after the case was closed, Jia Yucun was worried that menzi would tell people about the gourd temple that day. In that case, wouldn't it be better for the officialdom to know the details of his Jia Yu Village, a man from a poor and ungrateful background, who would damage the reputation of the official and hurt his dignity, and the boss in his heart would not be happy. Therefore, in the end, I found a no, and the old man of the door was far from the army. This result is probably something that Menzi never expected. This is really a pit dug by myself and I have to jump down with tears.
Shami, in Buddhism, means "to put an end to evil" and "to do kindness." After a few years of being a disciple of Xiao Shami in the temple, not only did he not stop evil deeds, but he took the initiative to do evil, and once he had the opportunity to platform, the evil in his body fermented and expanded, and for personal gain, there was no bottom line ethics.
