Xiamen Daily reporter Liu Shaomin (first from left) interviews Chen Hao's father and son.

Xiamen Netnews (text/Xiamen Daily reporter Liu Shaomin photo/Xiamen Daily reporter Zhang Jiangyi) "Unfortunately, Russian experts feedback that 'Little Seven' failed to pair the brood this year. On Thursday night, when Chen Hao talked about the spoon-billed sandpiper "7L" that he was most looking forward to coming to Xiamen this year, he seemed to be talking about his children in the distance. Spoon-billed sandpiper is petite, named because it has its own spoon-shaped mouth, and is known as the "giant panda among birds" because of its small number, and in recent years, migratory birds have been observed in Xiamen, Quanzhou and other places.

In the winter of 2019, Chen Hao was the first to detect a spoon-billed sandpiper wearing a "7L" coded flag on its feet in the monitoring network, and after contacting Russian ornithologists, he learned that it was a young bird that had just been bred that year. "The hatching of young birds in those years, the migration of thousands of miles is really admirable." Chen Hao said that since then, he has been paying attention to the dynamics of "Little Seven", whether it goes home smoothly, whether it is paired with a baby, Chen Hao must learn from Russian ornithologists from time to time.

"Dad, don't just talk about spoon-billed sandpipers, but also many beautiful birds such as purple water chickens and chestnut-throated hummingbirds." His son Chen Zhengchen listened to his father talk about "Little Seven" endlessly, and he reminded him "jealously". Don't look at his son Chen Zhengchen is only 9 years old, he knows a lot of birds. When Chen Zhengchen was in kindergarten, bird clubs across the country once did a survey of Chinese autumn sand ducks, and young Chen Zhengchen followed his father to Quanzhou Dehua, Sanming Taining and other places to investigate and watch birds. Later, he also led the children in his class to participate in the Yundang Lake bird watching activities, and became a "little star" in the school Bird Love Week activities.

"I feel very meaningful to be able to bring the people around me to love birds and nature." Chen Hao said that when he and his wife were in love and dating, the two often walked into nature together to watch birds. After marriage, his wife took care of family affairs and supported him to go out to watch birds. In addition to his family, Chen Hao said that friends around him learned that he was a bird watching enthusiast and also began to pay attention to these cute little creatures, and several times to rescue injured birds were clues provided by friends.

One morning in September 2020, Chen Hao again received a picture from a friend, an injured fairy eight-colored bird. The fairy eight-colored bird feathers are colorful and colorful, known as the "beauty of birds", and are national second-class protected animals, and have been identified as vulnerable birds in the world. At ten o'clock on the same day, Chen Hao took the fairy eight-colored bird home, and while hurrying to report to the Municipal Bureau of Assets and Regulations, he rushed to the nearest flower and bird market to buy bread worms. But this fairy-colored bird did not buy it and always refused to eat.

At that time, the summary meeting for the 3rd anniversary of the Ren Bird Flying Project was held in Xiamen, and experts from all over the country gathered together. After Chen Hao urgently sought help from a number of experts, he finally adopted a plan of adoption and feeding glucose in a shading carton. "At that time, I also helped my father pump glucose with a syringe." Chen Zhengchen recalled the beautiful fairy eight-colored bird, and his eyes immediately lit up. The next morning, Chen Hao brought the rejuvenated Xianba colored plover to the core area of Wuyuanwan Wetland Park and released it into nature.

"My children and I are very reluctant, but for its good, we can't raise it for too long." Chen Hao said that he plans to observe the green peacock in Yunnan in the spring of next year, this bird is very sensitive, not only need to go into the tent at three or four o'clock in the morning on the day of observation to wait, even this tent must be set up half a month in advance, in order to let the green peacock familiarize itself first. In Chen Hao's view, these efforts are worth it, and loving birds is to live in harmony with them.

Xiamen Daily reporter Yang Xiayu (first from the right) interviewed Zhou Hua's family, and Zhou Hua took out his photographic equipment and introduced it to reporters.

Xiamen Netnews (text/Xiamen Daily reporter Yang Xiayu photo/Xiamen Daily reporter Zhang Jiangyi) As soon as he walked into the home of bird watching enthusiast Zhou Hua, the reporter was instantly attracted by the warm photo wall, which had photos of three generations of Zhou Hua's family at different times and in different places, full of time marks. Daughter Zhou Yun said that since the 1990s, her father has begun to record beautiful moments with the lens, photographing flowers and insects, but it is also a bird shooting that is fully immersed in it.

"I've shot so many subjects, and it's really addictive to shoot birds!" You see, my telephoto lens 'wears' camouflage uniforms and doesn't scare birds easily. While sharing his photographic equipment with reporters, Zhou Hua said that he was truly in love with bird watching.

In 2018, after Zhou Hua retired from Xiamen Technician College, he always liked to take a camera around and record some life-like images. By chance, he photographed the purple-backed reed flounder that bird watchers had been waiting for for a day at the Municipal Botanical Garden. At that time, Zhou Hua looked at the bird in the camera, although he did not know its species and characteristics, it was still difficult to hide his excitement and excitement, as if he was waiting for this moment. The next day, Zhou Hua met the group of bird watching enthusiasts at the same place, and he quickly picked up the camera to share the captured photos of the birds with them, which attracted a crowd of onlookers and admiration, everyone told him that this was an uncommon purple-backed reed flounder, envious of his "bird luck".

Nowadays, as a more active member of the Xiamen Bird Watching Association, Zhou Hua has photographed more than 250 species of birds, and in January this year, he refreshed the record of wild birds in Xiamen because of the rarely recorded Ryukyu Mountain Pepper Bird in China, and it is also the first time that bird watchers in Fujian Province have recorded this bird species.

"On that day, as usual, I habitually went to the Xianyue Mountain near my home to watch birds, and suddenly saw a strange-looking bird in the distance staying on the small mountain pass." When Zhou Hua gradually approached, the bird flew away quickly, and he pondered for a moment to make sure that this little bird wearing a gray "coat" and a white "collar" around its neck had never been photographed. So, Zhou Hua began to search for the surrounding woods, and fortunately, he managed to capture its figure with the camera. Zhou Hua smiled and said that his "bird luck" was really good.

Interestingly, in order to see the "fangrong" of the Ryukyu Mountain Pepper Bird, bird watchers from all over the country heard the wind and gathered at The Xianyue Mountain, but squatting for a few days was still fruitless, and finally under the "invitation" of the city's bird watching enthusiasts, Zhou Hua went to the Xianyue Mountain again to wait with everyone, and then, the Ryukyu Mountain Pepper Bird appeared! Insiders also called Zhou Huawei "director of Xianyue Mountain Park".

"In addition to luck, his patience when watching birds is really beyond our imagination." Wife Zhu Jie said that for a long time, she woke up at 6 o'clock in the morning, her husband had gone out, until dark to rush home, during which time has been in the same position waiting for the appearance of some kind of bird, lunch time does not leave, are bought in the morning steamed buns or buns casually to deal with a meal. Zhou Yun on the side felt the same way, she felt that her acute son was inherited from her father, but after becoming fascinated by bird watching, her father's acute son seemed to be missing, and he could sit in front of the computer for 4 to 5 hours to carefully select the photos of the birds taken on the day.

Zhou Hua believes that it is very meaningful to record birds with the lens, and he hopes that the photos he takes can improve everyone's awareness of the protection of birds, love and cherish nature.

Xiamen Daily reporter Liu Shaomin (first from right) interviews Zou Wenlu's family, and Zou Wenlu introduces the birds in the album to reporters.

Xiamen Netnews (Text/Xiamen Daily reporter Liu Shaomin Photo/Xiamen Daily reporter Zhang Jiangyi) "This is a blue-green magpie for my mother, and this is a red-flanked blue-tailed duck for my brother. At noon on Friday, Zou Wenlu introduced his recent bird paintings to reporters. Beautiful colors, agile looks, and cute birds jumped on the paper. Mother Wu Ying said with a smile that last year, her brother's school held a charity sale, and Zou Wenlu's "Bird Atlas" was very popular, and the two paintings sold for more than 1,000 yuan.

Mother Wu Ying said that Zou Wenlu's love for birds can be said to be natural, and she liked to draw birds when she was 3 years old. When she was in kindergarten in Fuzhou, Zou Wenlu received a gift from her parents and friend "Uncle Bird" as a bird atlas of Fuzhou Botanical Garden, "Forest Sea Spirit", which she loved and looked at every day. "I hope I will grow up soon and go to the field to watch birds." Zou Wenlu said that because of the fear that children's active children will frighten the birds, "Uncle Bird"'s bird watching class only accepts students from the third grade of primary school, which can make her wait for several years.

It was not easy to go to the third grade, and it was not long before I first went out to watch birds, because I transferred to Xiamen, Zou Wenlu had to re-familiarize herself with the bird watching environment. "Fortunately, many birds in Xiamen are similar to those in Fuzhou, and I mostly recognize them." When it comes to bird watching and recognizing birds, Zou Wenlu looks very professional and confident. Although only 14 years old, Zou Wenlu has read nearly 100 bird books and has observed and identified more than 500 species of birds. "Photo books are more ornamental, and hand-drawn pictures are more convenient to learn without the influence of light and shadow." Zou Wenlu is like a small expert, recommending to reporters the introductory picture book of bird watching.

"In fact, these books and materials, as well as information about each bird watching activity, were all done by my mother for me." Zou Wenlu happily took her mother Wu Ying's arm and smiled and talked about the experience of her mother and brother accompanying her to Sanming Longqi Mountain to find the spotted kingfisher. At that time, their family and other bird friends met up the mountain to look for birds, and sometimes they went into the mountain late at night, and they could only sleep in the temple on the mountain or in the car.

"I don't know these birds, but I can use them as her 'telescopes' to spot the elves in the woods." Wu Ying smiled and said that bird watching is actually a very hard thing, and she was quite surprised that her daughter could persist for so many years. For the sake of her daughter's love and persistence, she, as a mother, is even less likely to back down.

Bird watching around Xiamen on weekends, bird watching in winter and summer vacations, and taking time out of time to read bird books every day will undoubtedly occupy Zou Wenlu's study time. How to balance academic performance and hobbies, mother Wu Ying left the decision to Zou Wenlu herself. "Attend classes conscientiously, complete assignments on time, and leave the rest of the time at her disposal." Wu Ying said that last summer, the family traveled to the northwest together, admired the natural scenery through birds, and then deeply understood the history and culture, and truly felt the charm of walking thousands of miles.

"When we talk about a bird, the good memories of bird watching together come to mind." At 1:45 p.m., Dad Zou Changgen was going to send his daughter to school. Zou Changgen said that he did not know much about the fun of bird watching, but the experience of accompanying his family into nature made him feel very happy.
