Overseas Network, December 25 -- On the morning of December 25, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference. Yang Shu, executive deputy director of the Consular Protection Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Wang Zhiwei, deputy director of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education; Li Jinsheng, deputy director of the Department of Management of Professional and Technical Personnel of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security; Man Hongwei, inspector of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; and Wu Jian, director of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of the State General Administration of Sports, answered reporters' questions on the 13 measures related to providing equal treatment for Taiwan compatriots in the "Several Measures for Further Promoting Cross-Strait Economic and Cultural Exchanges and Cooperation." Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman of the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, presided over the press conference.

A reporter asked a question: According to Article 14 of the "26 Measures," Taiwan compatriots can seek consular protection and assistance at Chinese embassies and consulates abroad.

Yang Shu, executive deputy director of the Consular Protection Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that compatriots on both sides of the strait are linked by blood. We always attach great importance to safeguarding the safety and legitimate rights and interests of overseas Taiwan compatriots. Last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its embassies and consulates abroad handled more than 85,000 cases of consular protection assistance and handled nearly 12 million consular documents of various types. Some of this involves Taiwan compatriots who have lived or traveled overseas for a long time. We have always attached great importance to consular protection matters involving Taiwan compatriots, gone all out, and done a good job.

Yang Shu introduced that if overseas Taiwan compatriots encounter natural disasters, or accidents and other emergencies, they can seek consular protection and assistance from embassies and consulates abroad in the following ways: The first way is to call the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' global consular protection and service emergency hotline, which is the 12308 hotline that we often publicize. This hotline can be called overseas at +86-10-12308 or by calling the backup long number at +86-10-59913991. The second way is to download the "Ministry of Foreign Affairs 12308" mobile client (APP) and dial the 12308 hotline through the network through the "one-click help" function. The third way is to call the consular protection and assistance emergency number of our local embassy or consulate directly. The phone number is published on the website of the embassy or consulate abroad, and can also be queried through the 12308 mobile APP of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that I just mentioned. The fourth way is to communicate with the operator of the 12308 hotline through the dialog box of the "Consular Express" WeChat Mini Program.

Yang Shu said: "Here, we would also like to invite overseas Taiwan compatriots to pay attention to our Chinese consular service network and the 'Consular Express' WeChat public account and Weibo, so that we can get overseas security reminders and important consular information issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the first place." ”
