Invincible Golden Steamed Buns...
Do you know-it-all captains remember an "Ancient Divine Beast"? This tall and large chariot was once also an eighth-level heavy tank, because of its round and rolling shape, it was also called "golden bread" by players. Previously, it was only available through a magical "Privilege Card", but in recent years it has gradually opened up for purchase.
M6A2E1
Today's article Xiaobian will tell you the story of the M6A2E1 car
Study M6A2E1
M6 heavy tank
Old rule, let's start with the chassis. The chassis of the M6A2E1 was derived from the T1 series of heavy tanks developed by the American Ordnance Board in May 1940. The valuable thing about the T1 heavy tank is that it is the first heavy tank developed by the US military, and before that, the US military had only engaged in the M3 Lee, a tank of more than 20 tons.

The U.S. Ordnance Board was concerned about its own lack of design strength because the 70-ton heavy tank had very high requirements for the power system, so they also invited experts from the American Society of Automotive Engineers to assist in the development of the T1 heavy tank. After a long search, experts agreed that White's G-200 air-cooled gasoline engine would meet this requirement. The G-200 engine delivers 960 horsepower at full power, which is enough to power the beast.
It should be pointed out that the T1 heavy tank has actually engaged in an electric transmission program, which is called T1E1, which is a set of transmission systems developed by General Electric, and the U.S. Army still likes this program. However, the electric drive of this thing everyone also understands, the weight is too large, the application is very troublesome. Therefore, this last plan only stays on the basis of the test vehicle. Finally, a mechanically transmitted T1E2 heavy tank was used as a prototype of the M6 heavy tank, which was finalized on May 26, 1942.
M6 schematic
Of course, the captains must know how the T1 and M6 heavy tanks perform in the game..... In the era when the KV was still a Class 5 car, the brothers were killed by KV every day. The only thing these two cars are probably proud of is the decent maneuverability.... The M6 has a 90mm gun experience that's okay, but the T1 is really not playable. In reality, M6 is also the same pit daddy goods, there are many strange problems. The Army acceptance test at Fort Knox in April 1943 exposed many problems with the M6 heavy tank, which was judged to have "major technical defects and needed to be redesigned."
It's so big!
In 1943 the M6's armor was already weak, and the design of the member positions was not scientific, and many of the interior settings of the car did not take into account the experience. For example, the gunner can only aim with his left eye when aiming, because the gunner's scope is designed to be too close to the main gun, which is very inconvenient for most people..... There is also the 37mm secondary gun on the side of the main gun is very chicken ribs, squeezing the space inside the turret, not to mention, the commander comrade also has to load and aim it in battle, which is really too difficult.
M6A2E1 Early Scenario Diagram
The M6 heavy tank was discontinued after a total of 8 were produced, although the car was highly expected and "quite humane": the right side of the vehicle was also designed with an additional fire extinguisher handle, and if the personnel outside the vehicle found that the vehicle was on fire, it was very convenient to open the fire extinguisher outside the vehicle..... However, designers may not have thought that this project will actually have a follow-up.... This is all due to the Tiger King of the Germans.
Another angle of the M6A2E1 early envisioned diagram
After the Normandy landings in June 1944, the Allies encountered the German Tiger King tank on the European battlefield, if the Firefly is okay against the Tiger, but the Tiger King tank is well...... The basic Allied land forces had little to do with it, either calling for air support or waiting for the Tiger King to have a mechanical failure on his own, which was obviously not a good idea. At the same time, the German Tiger and Tiger King were already equipped with 88mm main guns, and the Soviet T-34-85 also carried 85mm guns, not to mention the IS-2's 122mm guns. The American side can only look at the "75 divine needles" on their steamed buns and sigh, which directly contributed to the birth of M6A2E1.
105mm T5E1
In anticipation of the sustainability of firepower superiority, the Americans did not intend to place the Pershing 90mm M3 tank gun on heavy tanks, but chose the 105mm T5E1 main gun originally intended for the T28 assault tank. The gun weighed 2,383 kg and had a barrel length of 6.83 m.

The T5E1 gun on the M6A2E1 is stocked with 60 rounds, and it can fire three types of ammunition:
The 11.2 kg T29E1 hard-core armor-piercing shell (APCR) has a muzzle velocity of 1128 m/s, an armor plate placed at a 30° inclination angle at a distance of 914 m (1000 yards), and a penetration depth of up to 189 mm.
The 15.2 kg T30E1 high-explosive bullet with a muzzle velocity of 945 m/s and 9.4 kg of explosives.
The 17.7 kg T32 hood with a warhead is armor-piercing bulleted with a muzzle velocity of 914 m/s.
M6A2E1 1 car
On July 12, 1944, General Electric proposed a modification plan for the M6 heavy tank (that is, the two early design drawings above), and it can be seen that the general modification plan is still relatively large, including a turret similar to the Sherman Firefly tank, and the design of canceling the front armor and combining the front armor. In fact, the shape of the scheme at this time looks more like a hybrid of the T25 tank and the M6..... Of course, GE also recognized that in order to replace the more powerful 105mm main gun, a new turret was needed, the new turret seat needed to be enlarged, and the rear of the turret had to be designed to match the 105mm main gun.
Or the No. 1 car dismantled the muzzle brake
The captains know why the M6A2E1 has such a big "back of the head", right? The "back of the head" not only accommodates the extended gun tail ammunition carrier, but also adds the thickness of the counterweight block, so the thickness of the front of the turret of the M6A2E1 is about the same as the thickness of the rear of the turret.... The new turret seat was enlarged to a diameter of 2035mm, but this reduced the hatch size of the pilot and the messenger, which made the two brothers have to be particularly thin.... Otherwise, you can neither enter the car body from the outside, nor do you want to get out of the car.
M6A2E1 top view
A machine gun hanging behind the head
However, the shape of the turret that was actually manufactured is still very strange.... The turret had a standard American-style commander's command tower, to its left was the gunner's hatch, and behind the two hatches was the turret exhaust ventilation fan, and behind the fan was a machine gun column that could be put down. The designers set up several mounting points on the "back of the head" of the turret, on which a 12.7mm M2 heavy machine gun could be placed, and the heavy machine gun needed to be moved to the column at the top of the turret before joining the battle. This machine gun can be operated by the commander and can be used against infantry in the rear direction of the vehicle's side.
Frontal armor value
As for the armor, GE's design eliminated the front armor opening of the chassis of the M6 heavy tank and replaced it with a whole piece of 180mm thick first armor plate (191mm in the game), of course, because there is no extra budget and time to remodel the hull, so the M6A2E1's No. 1 and No. 2 cars are directly using the unmodified T1E1 tank chassis.

Several WWII tanks actually compare high vehicles
But in this way, the driver, whose forward vision was not good, was even more uncomfortable, he could only observe the direction through a periscope, and with the height of this huge turret, the overall height of the tank had reached a staggering height of 3.47 meters. It should be known that the Rat tank is also 3.63 meters high. This makes the front projection area of the M6A2E1 very large, and such a conspicuous tank is bound to become the focus of the whole field and receive special "care" if it joins the battle.
And with so many modifications, the weight of the vehicle is bound to become particularly large (don't forget the super heavy turret), the original T1E1 tank weighed 57 tons, but after a simple modification, the M6A2E1 weighed 70 tons, which is not counting the additional armor.... This can seriously affect the maneuverability of the vehicle, and field tests have shown that the M6A2E1 has a maximum speed of only 29 km/h and the speed of turning is also unusually slow. Admiral Eisenhower and the generals of the U.S. Army Front Command agreed that if this "super bread" were mass-produced, it would not be able to be used in the mountainous terrain of France.
Two prototypes were tested in Aberdeen in June 1945, one for driving testing, the other for "target vehicles" to test protection, and extensive testing of the 105mm gun. The tank's defense was very good, and the turret's defense was put to the test. The performance of the gun is also remarkable, but the anti-recoil mechanism of the gun is a bit of a problem. Two M6A2E1 test vehicles were dismantled in the 1950s and returned to furnace, and the rest of the M6/T1 chassis were largely dismantled, leaving only a lone T1E1 tank in Aberdeen.
Just bully you 59
In the game, the M6A2E1 is actually protected by a separate room, and as long as the car is not teamed up, it will not see the 10-level car. The opponents of level 8-9 can really threaten it, that is, the 300 wear series and TDs, and even if it is 300 wear, it is not "hit on the trap". As long as the M6A2E1 uses the selling tactic, it can bully many cars without a pitch angle.
Don't shrink back brother
The "invincible golden steamed bun" that we "World of Tanks" players recite is this M6A2E1, and interested friends can learn about it.
