Stirring for four hundred years: From the friendship of Mo Rebellion to the turn of hostility, Li Chong and Li Biao broke and lost both

This article is the 456th in a long series of articles, Four Hundred Years of Turmoil

As mentioned earlier, when Yuan Hong marched south, he let lieutenant Li Biao, servant Li Chong, and Rencheng Wang Yuancheng jointly preside over the affairs of staying in Taiwan. Unexpectedly, after Yuanhong left, a serious conflict broke out between Li Biao and Li Chong.

In fact, Li Biao and Li Chong have a deep relationship. Li Biao was born in a humble background, and when he was young, he was poor and lowly, but he was cautious and ambitious, and he was tireless in learning. Knowing that Li Chong liked talented people, he wholeheartedly went to him, hoping to get a recommendation.

Li Chong greatly admired Li Biao's talent and learning, treated him with great courtesy, recommended him to Yuanhong, and widely publicized him among his colleagues to establish a reputation for him, and from the perspective of career, Li Chong was his benefactor.

Due to Li Chong's strong introduction, Li Biao gradually emerged and rose step by step, and after serving as a lieutenant, impeached officials who did not avoid nobles and powerful subjects, and Yuanhong compared him to emperor Wu of Han.

However, Li Biao thought that he had been appreciated by Yuanhong, no longer needed to rely on Li Chong, and gradually became estranged from Li Chong, and when he met him in public, he only sorted out his sleeves to show etiquette and no longer had the intention of respect, so Li Chong held a grudge against him.

Today, Li Biao, Together with Li Chong and Yuan Cheng, is in charge of the affairs of the left behind, the contradictions have begun to intensify.

Li Biao was strong and upright, and often disagreed with others when deliberating, and had several disputes with Li Chong. He also prided himself on his status as a lieutenant, and others could not report or impeach him, and acted very arbitrarily.

Unable to bear it, Li Chong secretly collected Li Biao's mistakes and sins before and after, imprisoned him in Shangshu Province, and impeached him in the above table: "Li Biao was arrogant and disobedient, arrogant and arrogant, covetous of comfort, perfunctory official affairs, entered the forbidden province in a sedan car, took the property of the officials and families privately, drove the royal horse at every turn, and did whatever he wanted, unscrupulously." To this end, the chancellor summoned officials below Shangshu and above Lingshi to Shangshu Province, told him of Li Biao's crimes, and interrogated him for his falsehood, and Li Biao confessed. Therefore, the minister requested His Majesty to dismiss Li Biao from his official post on the basis of the above-mentioned crimes and hand him over to the court lieutenant for punishment. ”

Li Chong also complained with indignation: "It has been twenty years since the minister and Li Biao met. At first, the subject saw that he was talented, knowledgeable, talkative, and upright, and thought that he was an outstanding, fair and honest talent. Later, I gradually found that he was impatient and harsh, but I still felt that he had done more than he had done.

However, since His Majesty's great conquest of the South, Li Biao concurrently served as Shangshu, and the courtiers worked with him sooner or later, only then did he know that he was arbitrary and arrogant, unscrupulous, and respected himself and looked at no one else. If one listens only to his words, it seems that the ancient faithful and forgiving magis, compared with his deeds, are adulterers and tyrannical people. The subjects and the king of Rencheng bowed down to themselves, just like the docile brother who served the cruel elder brother. Although what he wanted to do was not taken seriously, the ministers and others did not dare to disobey.

What the minister said above is conclusive and unverifiable. If what the minister listed was true, Li Biao should be killed in the northern wilderness to eliminate the traitors who were in turmoil. If the matters enumerated by the subject are false and undocumented, the subject may be exiled to a very distant place in order to punish the servant who commits false accusations. ”

Li Chong was an old minister of the two dynasties, assisted by the government of the dynasty, and was one of Yuanhong's most trusted and important ministers, and now he had impeached Li Biao in such a resolute manner, which was quite an incompatible posture, which made Yuanhong unexpected.

After reading Li Chong's watch, Yuanhong sighed for a long time and sighed: "I didn't expect that the few people who stayed in Luoyang would make such a fuss. Then he said, "Li Biao can be said to be proud, but why is Li Chong not complacent?" ”

Song Ben, the Yellow Gate attendant, had always been resentful of Li Chong, and was a fellow villager with Li Biao, so he privately intervened in how to punish Li Biao. The relevant departments suggested that Li Biao be sentenced to death, and Yuan Hong leniently punished him, and finally only disposed of him as a delisting.

Li Chong has always been elegant and leisurely, gentle and generous, but when he detained Li Biao, he was unusual, personally counting Li Biao's mistakes before and after, angry, stunned, shouting, and breaking several cases, frightening the imperial historians to paint their faces with mud and tie their hands to apologize to him.

Learning that Li Biao was only removed from the list, Li Chong scolded incessantly, was insane, confused, upside down, and from time to time strangled his wrists and scolded "Li Biao's villain", and died of an illness more than ten days later, some people thought that he was too resentful and caused liver fracture, and he was killed alive.

Hearing that Li Chong died of illness, Yuanhong was overwhelmed with regret and grief, and posthumously gave it to Sikong.

When Li Chong was young, he was diligent and intelligent, had a strong temperament, and was willing to study hard. He has been in an important position for a long time, the official documents are always full of desks, handling official affairs all day long, never feeling tired, treating work conscientiously and conscientiously, and only forty years old, he has gray hair.

Li Chong has six brothers, born to four mothers, so when he was a child, there were often quarrels and fights between the brothers. However, after Li Chong became rich, he was able to share the money he had earned with his brothers for common enjoyment, brotherly harmony, and family peace.

Whether it is personal morality or work attitude, Li Chong is a model, but he has promoted a large number of family members and relatives, and does not award official positions and knighthoods through open selection, and his family alone has more than 10,000 horses a year, and people look down on him very much.

Judging from Li Chong's words and deeds before and after, he was indeed drifting, and he ended up like this or his personal cultivation was not enough. In contrast, Li Biao's personality is also a failure. After all, Li Chong is your benefactor, and it is okay to do official business, but in private, you still have to maintain a grateful heart.

If you analyze the conflict between Li Chong and Li Biao from a deeper level, it is nothing more than self-esteem.

For Li Biao, Li Chong is his great benefactor, and without Li Chong's cultivation in those years, there would be no he is today. However, Li Chong's kindness was too great, so that Li Biao could not face it after flying Huang Tengda, resulting in a strong sense of shame and deliberately leaving the relationship with Li Chong.

And for Li Chong, I have such a great understanding of you, I should respect me for a lifetime, always keep it in mind, and there can be no disrespect in the slightest. Therefore, when Li Biao took a flat view of him, his heart was out of anger and regarded Li Biao as an ungrateful person.

It is not difficult for us to imagine that Li Chong must have cared for Li Biao and loved his brothers more than his brothers, and Li Biao must also be grateful to Li Chong and obey him in everything. How close the relationship was back then, how much resentment there is today, and sometimes it is so complicated between people, the so-called Sheng Mi En Dou Mi Hate.

What is interesting is Yuan Cheng's attitude, when Li Chong and Li Biao clashed, he never persuaded him, nor did he mediate in front of Yuan Hong, and he always looked at it coldly. Perhaps, Yuan Cheng had already seen that the two of them were not pleasing to the eye, and wished that they would both lose.
