Mohammed Salah: Liverpool team-mate is currently 'the best player in the world'

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson said Mohammed Salah is currently the "best player in the world" but his team-mates will not be satisfied unless he can keep him in shape for the rest of the season.

Salah has made 12 appearances for Liverpool this season, scoring 15 goals, including 10 in nine Premier League games, most recently a hat-trick he scored in a 5-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend.

The Egyptians' form helped Liverpool off to an unbeaten start in the Premier League, leaving them one point behind leaders Chelsea in Anfield's match against Brighton on Saturday.

"You can see him walking on the pitch and he feels like he's going to score whenever he has the chance.

"What Mo is underestimating is his efficiency – the way he helps Trent (Alexander Arnold), the way he helps the defense behind his back, and so on. That's when he's at his best, that's when he creates chances and scores goals, when his spirit is so strong.

"He's an incredible player, I think at this moment he's the best in the world and he's going to want to continue like that. He doesn't want to do that in 9 or 10 games, he's done it so far, he wants to finish the whole season like he used to, hopefully he can do it because it gives us the best chance of scoring goals and winning trophies. ”

There's been a lot of speculation about Salah's future, with his contract with Liverpool set to expire in the summer of 2023.

The 29-year-old wants to spend the rest of his career at Anfield, but his future "depends on the club".

Robertson signed a new long-term contract himself in the summer, and he hopes the situation will be resolved as soon as possible.

"He said he would love to stay here and it depends on him and the club coming to an agreement," Robertson said.

"I hope I can continue to play with him. I love playing with Mo, I love playing with all the lads around me and you don't want to see anybody leave. ”

"Let's leave it to the club and Mo – I'm sure everyone is working hard to reach an agreement that works for everyone. Hopefully they'll find a solution, because if he's not the best in the world, he's definitely going to be involved in the discussions and "they're the kind of players you want in this club, they're the kind of players that fans at his club deserve." Hopefully this situation continues and he can stay longer. ”

"United's performance shows Conat has settled in"

Another positive factor brought about by Liverpool's victory at Manchester United was the performance of Summer signing Ibrahima Conat, who performed well in his second Premier League appearance.

The 22-year-old, who joined from German side Leipzig, praised Robertson for helping him settle down at the club, with the Scottish captain seeing the process as a key factor in his maturity at Old Trafford.

"Connert is an amazing guy," Robertson said. "He quickly adapted to the dressing room. I knew how good the lads were when I first came here and now I'm one of them.

"It's important that you make the boys feel comfortable as quickly as possible because that's when you're acting like him against Manchester United because he's comfortable with his surroundings.

"He hasn't played many games this season – he certainly wants to play more, but he has to adapt – new country, new club, new environment. He was still young and everyone forgot about it, because he was a giant, and it was important that everyone remembered it.
