(Early English Cocker Spaniel)

The English Cocker Spaniel is native to the UK, but all hunting dog breeds in the UK were developed centuries ago by dogs of Spanish ancestry (the word "spaniel" is derived from "Spanish"). This was long before the invention of the reliable shotgun, when bird hunters used dogs in conjunction with nets, bows and sometimes falcons. Originally the ancestors of the Cocker Spaniel were introduced to England from Spain for hunting birds. It was then gradually divided into 7 breeds: the English Spinter (Springer), the Wells Furs, the Coca Longhair, the Sussex Longhair, the Ranch Long-Haired Hound, the Irish Water Spaniel and the Klember Long-Eared Hound.

Early authorities divided hounds not by breed but by type: water spaniels or landhounds. Landhounds began to break down by size. The larger breeds are the "Springer" and "Field Spaniel", while the smaller breeds specialize in hunting the Sandpiper and are known as the "Cocker Spaniel".

The documented history of the modern Cocker Spaniel begins on 14 June 1879 with the birth of the first English Cocker Spaniel Obo. Four years later, Aobo made its debut at the Dog Show. The English Cocker Spaniel has a superb skill in hunting mountain sandpipers, so it has been excavated in the dog world to form an independent Cocker Spaniel bloodline. In 1892 the British Kennel Club KC finally recognized them as two separate breeds. This Cocker Spaniel is the English Cocker Spaniel.

It should be known that for some time before and after the official recognition of them as independent breeds in the United Kingdom, the Springers and Cocker Spaniels were both kept in the same kennel, and the difference in size made them independent breeds, but they had the same heredity, the same coat color, the same hunting skills and the same external appearance. Cocker Spaniels and Springer spaniels developed at the same time. It is precisely because the English Cocker Spaniel naturally contains the hereditary nature of the Springer that it eventually makes it the most delicate beagle.

In 1935, the British Cocker Spaniel Club in the United States was established to promote the development of the British Cocker Spaniel, when the English Cocker Spaniel had been recognized as a breed of Cocker Spaniel, but not a separate breed. It was not until 1946 that the American Kennel Club AKC recognized the English Cocker Spaniel as an independent dog breed.

On 10 April 1963, the World Dog Federation FCI recognized the British Cocker Spaniel as an independent breed.

After many hardships, the Cocker Spaniel finally has a clear identity. Loved by people for their cute big ears and gentle personality, ta has quickly become popular around the world and is still one of the top 10 most popular pet dogs.
