In 1952, the Kuomintang reorganized the National Army Sanatoriums in various parts of Taiwan into veterans hospitals; in 1954, the Kuomintang Executive Yuan established the Employment Counseling Committee for Retired Officers and Men of the National Army of the Executive Yuan, which was responsible for dealing with social issues such as employment after a large number of Nationalist troops were stationed in Taiwan; in 1955, the flat land farms were successively changed to be managed by the Retired Auxiliary Committee; after 1957, the Retired Auxiliary Committee entered the mountainous areas to open up mountain farms.
In 1959, in order to open up the Hengyilan branch line of the East-West Highway across Taiwan, Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo, who was then the director of the National Retired Officers and Soldiers Counseling Committee, led his team to brave the hardships and dangers of wading through the mountains and wading to Wuling Road in Pingpingli, Heping District, Taichung City, to conduct a field exploration, where they found a beautiful natural environment, like a paradise - Wuling, so on May 10, 1963, wuling Rongmin Farm was established, and on November 1, 1969, it was renamed Wuling Farm. It is mainly based on the cultivation of temperate fruit trees and the planting of vegetables and fruits in high cold land. On July 14, 1998, Yilan Farm was merged into Wuling Farm, and the total area of Wuling Farm reached 800 hectares.
From the perspective of development history, Wuling Farm has mainly gone through 4 transformation periods since its establishment in 1963:
1. Reclamation period: 1963 to 1967
The first director of the farm, Lin Dekun, led everyone to reclaim the land, try to plant high-cold vegetables and temperate fruit trees in the summer, and guided the Agricultural Revival and Development Committee to determine the farm management policy.
2. Agricultural period: 1967~1981
Improve the land, complete the planting of fruit trees, plan the vegetable land of the North Valley, expand the agricultural production area, formulate the fruit tree management competition system, implement the agricultural mechanization operation, effectively improve the production efficiency, save labor costs, by 1981, the direct project of Wuling Farm basically achieved the goal of self-sufficiency.
4. Period of transformation and tourism development: 1999 to present
According to the government policy, the Wuling Second National Guesthouse was built, and various facilities were continued to be expanded and renovated, and the projects such as Fenglin Wooden House (Café), Butterfly Hall, Camping Area, Wuling Tea House and Alpine Botanical Garden Were completed successively, so that the farm was officially transformed into a sightseeing ecological farm.
