In recent years, the Daxing'anling Mountains have strengthened the protection of wild animals, a large number of wild animals and plants have been protected and restored, the biological population has increased significantly, and various rare and endangered national protected animals have frequently appeared.

Rare "big birds" come into the house and hang out
One morning in May this year, Duan Yajun, a lookout at the Guliku Management Area of the Gagdachi Forestry Bureau, pushed open the door of the room, and a strange-looking "big bird" actually entered the house, stretching its neck and making a rattling sound.
"I work in the mountains for more than half a year every year, but I've never seen such a big bird." Duan Yajun quickly took a photo and sent it to the leader of the Guliku Management And Protection District. The leader of the Guliku Management District immediately sent someone to the watchtower to take the big bird back to the field headquarters. It has been confirmed that the identity of this big bird is indeed unusual, it is a national first-class protected animal black-billed grouse.
"The black-billed grouse is rare in Daxing'anling, and I saw it in the mountains more than a decade ago." Fire inspector Wang Wenjiu said.
Wang Wenjiu is an advocate of ecological protection among fire inspectors, working in the southern foothills of mount Ilhuri, 70 to 80 kilometers from the city. "On the fire watchtowers, you can often see moose, roe deer, black bears and many other wild animals walking through the forest." Wang Wenjiu said: "Especially in the past two years, there have been more and more wild animals, especially pheasants, flying dragon birds, wild ducks, snow rabbits, etc. It is not uncommon, sometimes directly running to the house, eating and drinking enough and then leaving." ”
Rare migratory birds camped
At the beginning of May, the glaciers of Daxing'anling gradually melted and the green germinated. Migratory birds settled in Daxinganling early, batch after batch, and set up camps to breed their descendants. Wang Wenjiu often saw the birds busy on the branches that exposed their green buds, and they used their mobile phones to take pictures and send circles of friends. Rare and endangered species such as the smoky-bellied hairy-footed swallow and the small egret in the province come here to "nest".
"Migratory birds can become a measure of whether the ecological environment is healthy, as long as there are migratory birds breeding and living in the local ecological environment must be well protected." Wang Wenjiu said.
Huang Guilin, a lover of ecological photography in Daxing'anling, is also a volunteer for wildlife conservation, and has taken more than 230 pictures of rare birds in recent years, and published them in a book to show people and wild animals under the blue sky, bathe in a ray of sunshine, and share the beautiful scene of a homeland.

In recent years, through field monitoring and successive reports from the masses, 71 birds and 3 mammals have been rescued, including golden eagles, brown bears, long-eared owls, goshawks, crested bee eagles, oriental white storks, red-footed falcons and other national key protected wild animals. Since 2021, the Animal Protection Department of the Jagdach Forestry Bureau alone has rescued 13 wild animals. Among them, there are 9 wild ducks, 2 roe deer cubs, and 2 long-tailed forest owls, national second-level protected animals.
Monitoring stations, monitoring areas and monitoring points that basically cover the centralized rest, breeding, wintering and feeding areas of migratory birds and other wild animals have been established, and a monitoring network combining points and surfaces has been initially formed. Nature reserves such as Nan'ouhe, Huzhong, Chanahe, Arctic Village, and Shuanghe have set up ring stations to carry out bird ring activities, accurately grasp the migration routes of migratory birds, and make up for the lack of bird-free ring activities in the northernmost part of China. "Through field monitoring, 23 species of newly distributed birds, such as ugly duck, oriental white stork, red-footed falcon, gray-headed wheat chicken, common cormorant, purple-winged starling, and longitudinal-bellied owl, have been discovered." Gao Fei, head of the Wildlife Protection Section of the Forest Resources Management Department of the Daxinganling Forestry Group Company, said.

According to Gao Fei, since the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", through protection publicity and education, the social attention of ecological protection work has increased year by year, the atmosphere of understanding, attention and support for the protection work of the whole people has become increasingly strong, and the series of special actions to protect wildlife resources such as "Golden Eagle Action", "Falcon Action", "Xing'an Series" and "Net Clearing Action" have been continuously carried out, the protection of wildlife habitats has been expanding, and the distribution of wild animal populations has increased significantly. The integrity of ecosystems is conserved and biodiversity is rapidly restored.
