The Chengdu Academy of Painting was established in 1980, and at the beginning of its establishment, under the condition of difficult conditions and limited funds, the work of collecting paintings in the academy has not been interrupted. These Tibetan paintings bear witness to the history of the development of the Chengdu Painting Academy, and there are many "stories" that are sealed in history.

In the 1980s, the Chengdu Academy of Painting began to gradually establish a painting collection system. Full-time painters, painters and specially appointed painters of the Academy of Painting shall, in accordance with the provisions of the Measures for the Administration of Painters, collect works from the Chengdu Academy of Painting (Museum) every year for the purpose of annual exhibition and academic research. Since then, the Chengdu Academy of Painting has begun to form a large-scale and fixed collection system of works. After years of accumulation and patient combing, Chengdu Academy of Painting has gradually explored a collection method suitable for its own reality. Up to now, Chengdu Academy of Painting has a total of 1716 works in the collection. Among them, there are 1446 works of Chinese painting, 183 works of oil painting, 49 works of printmaking, 33 works of multimedia, and 5 works of other categories. The types of collections are relatively rich, the age span of the collection is large, and the characteristics of the stages are obvious, especially the collection of representative works of the artists in Sichuan, which contains the historical inheritance of the development of art in Sichuan.
However, due to the restrictions of the conditions of the painting collection of the hospital (museum), the preservation status of the works has been hidden by security. Problems such as age, insect moths, dampness, mildew, and picture defects are becoming increasingly prominent. In April 2019, the Chengdu Academy of Painting launched the renewal of collection equipment and the protective restoration of some works that urgently need to be restored under the condition of special funding. In mid-November, the replacement of the collection equipment and the restoration of 39 works were completed. In this restoration process, Chengdu Academy of Painting strictly follows the restoration concept of "repairing the old as old", and uses scientific restoration means to carry out basic reinforcement and picture modification of the works to extend the artistic vitality of these works.
This exhibition is the first exhibition of the achievements of collection restoration held by the Chengdu Academy of Painting, which will display these works of great historical, humanistic art and academic research value to the public. Based on these works, the exhibition is supplemented by comparative display of design and restoration process documents before and after restoration, presenting the results of the conservation restoration of works in the collection.
It is hoped that through this exhibition, the public can clearly understand the process of calligraphy and painting restoration and the significance of restoration, so that the public can have a more comprehensive understanding of the protection and restoration of calligraphy and painting cultural relics, improve the awareness of cultural relics protection, have a deeper understanding of cultural inheritance, and make more people pay attention to and pay attention to the protection and inheritance of China's excellent traditional culture. At the same time, this exhibition is also an examination of the results of the restoration of the collection, and the Chengdu Academy of Painting will increase the depth of academic research on the works in the collection, and organize and archive the experience of restoration technology. Taking this as an opportunity, we will formulate a more perfect management of Tibetan paintings and a year-on-year restoration plan, and dedicate more research results to the society.
