In 1988, with the end of the martial law period in Taiwan, cross-strait relations were eased, and a large number of Taiwan compatriots returned to their hometowns one after another. Among them, Puzhai Town, Fengshun County, Guangdong Province, also ushered in a white-haired old man, holding the ID card of "Ye Yikui" on crutches, carefully walking through the trails, looking for his relatives.

At first, for the "Ye Yikui" old man, the crowd did not pay much attention to him, but only treated him as an ordinary poor Taiwan compatriot, giving him a subsidy of 20 yuan per month.
However, what everyone did not expect was that when "Ye Yikui" reported his real name "Xie Hanguang" that he had used in 42 years, it immediately attracted the attention of the central authorities, and when he was restored to the party and given him the living conditions of retired cadres, the investigation of the Central Organization Department also revealed an extraordinary past in the past few decades of the old man.
So, what kind of extraordinary experience did this old man with the pseudonym "Ye Yikui" have? And why did he stay anonymous for more than 40 years?
In the 1940s, under the change of Japan's strategic transfer plan, the Chinese Expeditionary Force went abroad to fight, and with Chiang Kai-shek, who was already passively resisting the war, he immediately formulated the policy of "dissolving the Communists", "defending against the Communists", and "restricting the Communists", and even after that, the command under the command continued to deliberately create friction and then set off an anti-communist upsurge.
At the same time, Xie Hanguang, who studied at the Agricultural College of Guangxi University, was arranged to Liuzhou as the director of the Qiangui Railway Farm because he studied very well during his studies. During his tenure in Liuzhou, the ideologically advanced Xie Hanguang used the convenience of his position to provide a place of refuge for advanced people from Guangdong and other places, as well as underground party comrades.
Because of the harsh environment, many comrades who traveled for a long distance also fell ill. After learning of these circumstances, the enthusiastic Xie Hanguang often took care of them untied and did his best to provide them with medical supplies. Slowly, as Xie Hanguang's relationship with the Communist Party deepened, his farm gradually became a contact point between our Party and advanced people because of its geographical safety.
In 1945, after several years of resistance, the Japanese Emperor announced his surrender. Xie Hanguang also came to Hong Kong to get in touch with Fang Fang and others, and after several investigations, Xie Hanguang, who was firmly conscious, finally got what he wanted to face the bright red party flag, raised his fist, swore an oath to join the party, and officially became a member of the Communist Party.
With the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Taiwan was able to return to the embrace of the motherland, and in order to further understand the form of Taiwan in the future, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China immediately sent a large number of cadres to Taiwan for the construction of revolutionary base areas.
At the same time, Xie Hanguang's former teacher was also about to go to Taiwan to serve as the director of the Forestry Laboratory. At this time, he suddenly remembered that Xie Hanguang, a student with excellent grades in the university, believed that if he brought this student with him, he would definitely be able to get a good job and make up for the vacancy that no one could use when he went to Taiwan. Therefore, before leaving, he made a special call and invited Xie Hanguang to work in Taiwan together.
At this time, after careful training, Xie Hanguang already had the ability to become a qualified underground party member, and at this time, Taiwan's construction base area was in urgent need of manpower construction. Therefore, when Xie Hanguang reported the news of his teacher's letter to the organization, the organization thought that this was a good opportunity for Xie Hanguang to enter Taiwan, so it decided to send him to Taiwan to contribute to the construction of the party organization.
At this time, Xie Hanguang had just been married for 9 days, looking at his tearful wife, Xie Hanguang was very reluctant, but when asked by his wife what to do, Xie Hanguang, who remembered the organization's account, just shook his head repeatedly, wiped away tears for his wife and said, "I will come back soon."
What will be faced on this trip to Taiwan, or whether Xie Hanguang will come back alive, I don't know. However, he knew very well that the organization needed itself, so he left without hesitation.
After arriving in Taiwan, Xie Hanguang entered the Lotus Pond Branch of the Taiwan Provincial Forestry Experimental Institute under the arrangement of his teacher, and used this identity to cover his underground party work.
Shortly after Xie Hanguang's arrival, Cai Xiaoqian was also appointed by the CPC Central Committee and was transferred to Taiwan to serve as the secretary of the Taiwan Provincial Working Committee of the CPC. Among them, under the organizational leadership of Cai Xiaoqian, the work of the underground party in Taiwan has been carried out in an all-round way. Here they successively created the CPC Taiwan Students' Working Committee, the Taipei Municipal Working Committee, the Kaohsiung Municipal Working Committee, the Keelung Municipal Working Committee and other organizations.
At this time, Xie Hanguang's teacher had left the Forestry Experimental Institute, and before leaving, in order to let the students get better development, he also used his personal connections to push Xie Hanguang to the position of director. As his status rises, Xie Hanguang's rights also increase, and he is more comfortable doing underground party work.
Soon after, Xie Hanguang suddenly received a message from the organization, and Sister Su Hui said, "You have an alumnus who will soon be in Taiwan, if you can ask him to help him arrange a job as soon as possible to settle down, so that he can start his work." ”
In 1947, Zhang Bozhe in Su Hui's mouth arrived as scheduled, and as a fellow alumnus, he was also a fellow Guangdong fellow. Xie Hanguang was very happy, he first settled Zhang Bozhe in his home, and then on the grounds that Zhang Bozhe had also studied the same major as himself, he arranged for him to serve as the section chief in the institute.
In addition, Chen Zhonghao, Xu Maode and others also helped Xie Hanguang to meet Zhong Haodong, an underground party comrade who served as the principal of Keelung Middle School. After settling down in Taiwan, they borrowed their status as teachers at Keelung Middle School and founded the "Haiyan Reading Club" to lead students to read progressive secretaries together, publicize new ideas, and develop underground party forces. With the help of Hsieh Han-kwong, the work of the Taiwan underground party was carried out in an orderly and rapid manner.
The "228" incident
At this time, at the most intense moment of the Kuomintang-Communist civil war, as our army broke through all the way, the Kuomintang government lost troops on the battlefield, and Chiang Kai-shek, who had originally won the victory, was forced to turn to strategic defense because the Kuomintang had a strategic offensive and became irritable.
Among them, the Kuomintang, which took over taiwan's political power from the Japanese, not only did not allow everyone to break away from feudal colonization as the Taiwanese people expected, but on the contrary intensified its oppression of it, and in just over a year, all the People of Taiwan had deep resentment against the Kuomintang, and the "228" incident broke out.
After that, the Kuomintang quickly sent troops to suppress Taiwan, and a large number of students and people were massacred, which also led to 38 years of martial law in Taiwan. Among them, in order not to be exposed at a time when the Kuomintang was full of grass and trees, in December 1947, Xie Hanguang actively did research with his colleagues, and together they published a paper entitled "Forest Stand Investigation and Preliminary Research" in relevant journals.
Guangming Newspaper
However, when the underground comrades in Taiwan were fighting with the Kuomintang for wits and courage, more serious problems still emerged. Among them, Chen Zhonghao, Xu Maode, and others often printed guangming pao in a sheltered cave next to Keelung Middle School in order to propagate new ideas to the people of Taiwan.
However, as the time entered 1949, our Party had already wiped out all the main forces of the Kuomintang entrenched on the mainland in three major battles, and if our Party liberated Taiwan at this point, then this would truly realize the liberation of all of China.
In June of the same year, at the end of the War of Liberation, Guangming Bao published the news of our army's victory in the three major battles, and printed slogans such as "Down with Chiang Kai-shek, Liberate All China" and "Taiwan Will Be Liberated, Compatriots Are Ready."
For a time, Guangming Bao caused a huge response throughout Taiwan, and even these exciting slogans for attacking Taiwan appeared in many public places. A month after the outbreak, someone handed over a copy of the Guangming Pao newspaper he had picked up to Chen Cheng, then chairman of Taiwan. Chen Cheng's face was very ugly after seeing it, he had previously suffered a crushing defeat in the northeast when he was on the mainland, and now he had made such a mistake under his own eyes, he did not dare to be sloppy, and he hurriedly reported this information to Chiang Kai-shek.
After learning of this situation, Chiang Kai-shek was furious; at this time there was no place for him on the mainland, and he had repeatedly stressed to others earlier that "as long as Taiwan is present, he will certainly be able to make a comeback." Therefore, Chiang Kai-shek, who was like a lost dog at this time, immediately convened a meeting of the high-level members of the Kuomintang.
At the meeting, Chiang Kai-shek slapped the table several times in a row, denounced the ineffective handling of these generals, and demanded that they crack the mastermind of the CPC's "Guangming Bao" within a limited period of time.
At Chiang Kai-shek's order, Taiwan fell into a white terror, and all the secret agents and guards were dispatched, and among them, the Kaohsiung garrison learned from several Taiwan college students captured that the principal of Keelung and many teachers in the school were Communists, and it was from here that the Guangming Bao came out.
Upon hearing this news, a large number of agents surrounded Keelung Middle School, causing everyone to panic for a long time. Among them, Chen Zhonghao was able to escape by chance, and then rushed several times to find Xie Hanguang at the forestry test in the high mountains and forests.
Soon, with the help of other underground party members, Chen Zhonghao, armed with the fake identity card of "Lin Chenkang", was helped by his cousin to buy a ticket to Shantou, and then escorted by "Lao Hong", which was able to escape from danger.
But just as everyone was pondering how to rebuild the destroyed underground party organizations in Taichung, new bad news came again. With the destruction of this underground organization at Keelung Middle School, the Kuomintang, under the leadership of Chiang Ching-kuo and Gu Zhengwen, known as the "Living Yama King," began to use even more brutal means to suppress our Party's activities in Taiwan.
In 1950, Gu Zhengwen infiltrated the secret service of the Kaohsiung City Working Committee and captured Chen Zemin, deputy secretary of the Taiwan Provincial Working Committee, and then stripped away the cocoon from this line to dig out the identity of Cai Xiaoqian. Although Cai Xiaoqian was able to escape by chance, he unfortunately left behind a notebook with the words "Wu Vice Chief", and this extremely sensitive information led to the exposure of Wu Shi, who was stationed in the heart of the Kuomintang, and was shot along with his lieutenants and others.
Later, as Cai Xiaoqian was arrested and imprisoned again, he chose to defect after a lack of determination to covet pleasure, and Zhang Zhizhong, director of the Wugong Department of the Provincial Working Committee, was arrested, and Hong Youqiao, director of the Propaganda Department, was also on the way to evacuate, because cai Xiaoqian was arrested for betrayal. Subsequently, more than 1,800 people lurking in Taiwan were also imprisoned one after another.
Before the enemy was about to dispatch troops to arrest Xie Hanguang, a stranger hurriedly took the letter sent by Zhang Bozhe and rushed to Xie Hanguang's place, asking him to leave urgently.
After receiving the letter, Xie Hanguang kept fighting for his knowledge of the terrain and evacuated to the Taichung livestock farm. However, after inquiring, Xie Hanguang found that his old classmate Liang Zhengqing had been unfortunately arrested, and even Zhang Bozhe and others had been buried.
On March 29, the Taichung Police Department released the so-called "defection case of Liang Zhengqing and others from the East China Bureau's submarine Taiwan organization." In the end, Xie Hanguang was listed by the Kuomintang as a key criminal in the pursuit of the Kuomintang, and asked all departments to pay attention to it.
Xie Hanguang knew that I was afraid that at this time all the underground party comrades were in a desperate situation, and now he could only rely on himself, so he fled all the way to Nantun Village in Taichung according to the latent advice on the letter, and then came to Taitung under the cover of his classmates.
Among them, an old man named Yang Xibo was very strange about this young man who was in a hurry, and he quickly shouted at Xie Hanguang, "Young man, who are you, why did you come here?" ”
Xie Hanguang hurriedly replied, "I am a Kuomintang army, but I really can't stay in the army, I just escaped from the Kuomintang army, but I don't have a hukou to be afraid of the Kuomintang investigation, so I can only escape here, I don't know if the old man can give me only a way to live." ”
After listening to Xie Hanguang's words, Yang Xibo took him home when he saw that he was pitiful, but because he was worried that the Kuomintang might have pursuing soldiers come to check on him and affect his family, he apologized to him one after another at the strong request of his wife and children and took him to the mountains 20 miles away.
However, when the village chief here saw that there was suddenly a strange face, he quickly stopped Xie Hanguang, "Eh, who are you, why did you suddenly break into our village, go fast!" ”
Xie Hanguang once again explained to him the false identity of the Kuomintang deserter, and then took out two gold rings and said that he would give them to him, and the village chief who saw the money eyes was shaken, and then under Xie Hanguang's repeated requests, he agreed to let him live.
In order to solve the problem of not having a hukou for him, the village chief decided to let him replace Ye Yikui, a villager in the village who had been missing for a long time in the early years of the mountain, and helped him apply for an identity card and household registration. In this way, Xie Hanguang from Guangdong officially became Ye Yikui, a farmer of the Taitung Alpine Tribe.
In the years since, Xie Hanguang has been living under a pseudonym. But despite this, he also cared about the news of Taiwan's underground party organizations all the time. However, at this time, the Kuomintang had already fled to Taiwan, and it was even more eyeing the mainland, and it was even more extravagant to want to know the mainland's news.
Slowly, Xie Hanguang gradually became acquainted with the people in the village, and the villagers saw that he was alone and wanted to tell him about a family affair, but he refused without hesitation. At this time, he still missed his wife at home, and he believed that as long as he persisted, he would be able to return to the organization and see the red flag flying high, and this was 38 years.
In 1987, with the death of Chiang Kai-shek and the struggle of the central authorities, cross-strait relations were finally eased and restrictions on family visits were opened. At this time, Xie Hanguang was more than 70 years old, worried that if he did not go home again, he would really have to stay in Taiwan, so he applied for the first time, and then returned to his hometown with Ye Yikui's ID card.
After several turns, Xie Hanguang heard the news of his wife Zeng Xiuping, and searched hard, and finally was able to reunite with his old wife. Among them, Xie Hanguang knew that many of the comrades who had fought with him in the early years had died, and his identity had become a "history" that no one could prove with the death of these people, so at first the local government only regarded him as an ordinary difficult Taiwan compatriot who went home to join his relatives, and issued a subsidy of 20 yuan per month.
In order to prove his identity, Xie Hanguang inquired many times and learned that Chen Zhonghao, who used to teach as an underground party at Keelung Middle School in Taiwan, was still alive. Accompanied by his daughter, Xie Hanguang and Chen Zhonghao were finally able to meet again after experiencing life and death, in which Xie Hanguang told Chen Zhonghao about how he escaped to Taitung and how he became Ye Yikui, for which Chen Zhonghao had tears in his eyes, tightly held Xie Hanguang's hand, and said repeatedly, "Just come back, come back."
After learning of xie Hanguang's difficulties, Chen Zhonghao contacted Xu Maode, who had also worked in Taiwan, and at Xie Hanguang's request, went through the procedures for the honor of martyrs for Zhang Bozhe, who died at the hands of the Kuomintang. After several efforts by everyone, Xu Maode finally collected the proof materials and handed them over to the central authorities.
The central authorities attach great importance to these heroes who have made great contributions to China, and have sent a director-level leader of the Central Organization Department to be responsible for this matter.
Finally, in 1994, the identity of Xie Hanguang, who had dedicated his life to New China, was finally confirmed, and the Central Committee restored his party membership and completed the procedures for leaving.
But unfortunately, in 1996, the elderly Xie Hanguang completed his legendary life at home at the age of 75.
