In response to the online exposure of the "flying insect plague" in the Summer Palace Lake Area, the Summer Palace Management Office today dispelled the rumors through this newspaper: The "flying insects" in the online post belong to harmless mosquitoes that appear in places where Beijing's water network is dense every spring, and are currently being treated by physical means and artificial treatment.

Experts from the Summer Palace Management Office said that the flying insects referred to by netizens are actually "shaking mosquitoes". Mosquitoes are not sanitary pests, do not transmit diseases, and do not suck blood. At the same time, the mosquito is an integral part of the biological chain - the larvae of the mosquito live in the water, commonly known as fish worms, and are a link in the food chain such as fish and shrimp in the water body.

The appearance of the Summer Palace mosquito has a certain pattern, at a fixed time and in a fixed area. Usually in early spring, it usually lasts 2-3 weeks, and will basically end by the end of this month, and the mosquitoes occur in the adjacent lakeside area in the western part of the Summer Palace.

Since the area is close to the Jingmi Diversion Canal, the application of chemical pesticides is prohibited here in order to ensure the safety of drinking water sources. During the period of large number of mosquitoes, the Summer Palace mainly adopts physical methods to cooperate with artificial treatment. The physical method is to post the sticky worm board, followed by agitation with the lake water to reduce the survival rate of larvae to adults.

The park reminds that for tourists who are more sensitive to flying insects, the park recommends temporarily avoiding the western lake area tour in the near future, and choosing Wanshou Mountain and the eastern area to play.
