Macao, September 6 (Reporter Long Tuyou) The joint police operation of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao - "Operation Thunder 2021" held a synchronous press conference on the 6th. The Macao Police Conference was held at the General Police Headquarters, attended by Huang Zhikang, assistant to the Chief of the General Police, Chen Jianxiong, deputy director of the Judicial Police Bureau, Leung Ching-kang, deputy director of the Public Security Police Bureau, and Bu Jiaming, acting director of the Macao Customs Department.

Huang Zhikang introduced that this year's "Thunder Action 2021" is divided into two stages, which will be carried out from June 6 to July 11 and from August 16 to 30. In Macao, under the coordination of the General Police Department, jointly implemented by the Public Security Police, the Judicial Police and the Macao Customs, a total of 746 operations were launched against cross-border organized crime, drug crimes, illegal gambling, usury crimes, illegal currency exchange, manipulation of prostitution and human trafficking, telecommunications network fraud and smuggling, etc., with 9,721 dispatches and 31,086 investigations, involving about 443 cases.

Among them, 17 cases involved drug crimes, involving a total of 24 people, seizing 631 grams of methamphetamine, 1.13 grams of ketamine and other drugs, with a market value of about MOP 2 million; 15 cases of usury crimes were detected, involving a total of 16 people, of which 2 cases involved illegal confinement; 6 cases involving assistance in smuggling activities, involving a total of 10 people.

During the operation, a total of 516 persons were brought before the judiciary for interrogation on suspicion of criminal offences, of whom 271 were taken coercive measures or sentenced and 32 were detained.

Wong Chi Kang pointed out that in view of the impact of the epidemic in Macao and neighboring regions in recent years and the uncertainty in society, the General Police Department of Macao will continue to pay close attention to the trend of crime and the changes in the pattern of crime, strengthen police cooperation and intelligence exchanges between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and carry out targeted crackdown deployment in a timely manner to jointly safeguard regional security and social stability.
