October 29 is the 16th World Stroke Day. According to the "China Stroke Center Report 2020", the number of strokes in China's 40-year-old and older population in 2020 is about 17.8 million, bringing a heavy burden to society and families. Stroke has become the "number one killer of human health" due to the "five highs" characteristics of high incidence, high disability rate, high mortality rate, high recurrence rate and high economic burden. What are the causative factors of stroke? Who is susceptible to stroke? Below, the Life Channel of China Economic Network takes stock for you.
What is a stroke?
Stroke, commonly known as stroke, is a group of diseases that cause brain tissue damage due to the sudden rupture of blood vessels in the brain or the inability of blood to flow into the brain due to blood vessel blockage, including ischemic stroke (transient ischemic attack, atherosclerotic thrombotic cerebral infarction, lacunar cerebral infarction, cerebral embolism) and hemorrhagic stroke (cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage), of which ischemic stroke accounts for 85%.
Clinical manifestations are characterized by sudden coma, unconsciousness, or crooked mouth and eyes, weakness of hands and feet, and unclear speech. According to statistics, there are 70 million stroke patients in China, and the number of stroke deaths is 1.65 million per year. The case fatality rate in men is 1.5 times higher than in the female group, and 40 to 65 years old is the peak period of stroke onset.
Hypertension is the most important risk factor for stroke
Risk factors for stroke are divided into controllable and uncontrollable categories, of which age, sex, family history, and race are uncontrollable factors, while risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, dyslipidemia, carotid artery stenosis, lack of exercise, smoking and alcoholism, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and irrational dietary structure are controllable factors, of which hypertension is the most important risk factor for stroke.
After the blood is viscous or the blood vessels become narrower, the blood flow will become slower, and it will not enter the brain, and it will require greater strength to promote the blood flow, and the hypertension generated at this time will cause the cerebral blood vessels to lose their self-regulating function, which will lead to danger. In addition, many patients did not take drugs regularly after suffering from high blood pressure, and did not control their blood pressure, resulting in stroke.
Strokes are prone to high in autumn and winter
Autumn and winter, the temperature plummets, blood vessels become sensitive to temperature, from relaxation to sudden contraction after cold, resulting in abnormal rise in blood pressure values, if not paid attention, it is very easy to cause the danger of stroke, so in autumn and winter, middle-aged and elderly people should do a good job of keeping warm. In and out of the indoor and outdoor should pay special attention to the head and feet of the warmth, the head cerebral blood vessels for the poor tolerance of air conditioning, should focus on protection.
The trend of stroke rejuvenation is obvious
According to experts, the incidence of stroke has been rising in recent years, and according to forecasts, this upward trend in China will not have an inflection point until 2050. What is more worrying is that due to unhealthy lifestyles such as smoking, alcoholism, obesity, staying up late, and irregular life, stroke patients are getting younger and younger, and patients around the age of 40 are often treated for stroke.
Experts say that a reasonable diet, moderate exercise, and psychological balance are effective ways to prevent cerebrovascular diseases. If the risk factors are well controlled, the chance of stroke can be reduced by 50%-60%. For young people, stress, smoking and drinking, obesity, lack of sleep, lack of exercise are the characteristics of young people suffering from stroke.
Who is at high risk
1. "Three high" crowds. "Three highs" can be described as the three "pushers" of stroke. Hypertension is the most important risk factor for cerebrovascular disease in current studies, and similarly, poorly controlled blood sugar and cholesterol can also increase the risk of stroke.
2. "White bone essence" crowd. That is, white-collar workers, backbones, elites, such people due to stress, poor sleep, staying up late, coupled with socializing, smoking, drinking and other bad lifestyles, prone to stroke.
3. People over 40 years old. People over the age of 40 should have regular physical examinations, which is appropriate once a year.
4. People with sleep apnea syndrome. Awakening stroke usually refers to acute cerebral infarction in which there are no obvious symptoms at the time of falling asleep, and the patient or witnesses find that the stroke symptoms are found after waking up. Smoking, hypertension, atrial fibrillation, and sleep apnea syndrome are more likely to develop an awakened stroke.
