The 36th Hong Kong Film Awards Ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on 9 April. "Tree Trick" was expected by everyone, and finally won five important awards including best picture, best director, best actor, best screenwriter, and best editing, becoming the biggest winner of the night.
After Hui Yinghong won the Academy Award for the third time with "Lucky Is Me", she was excited and burst into tears. Zhou Dongyu and Ma Sichun, who had been very vocal before, were not related to the award. The best supporting actor and actress were won by Zeng Zhiwei and Jin Yanling respectively, and the films that helped them win the award were "A Thought of Ignorance". Film director Huang Jin also won the New Director Award. The best cross-strait Chinese film was awarded to "All the Way to the Wind".
