Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

author:The small nest at the head of the nest

Background: In ancient times, this land was covered with dense forests, and among the towering ancient trees, there were patron saints guarding them, in that era, humans and beasts lived in harmony, and with the passage of time, many forests were cut down...

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

One day, a village in the northeast (the Ezo tribe) suddenly changed, the birds and beasts in the mountains disappeared, a wild boar possessed by evil demons suddenly attacked, and everywhere he went, the grass and trees dried up, and their lives were taken... The wild boar is about to attack the village, the male protagonist Asidaka, as an excellent young man in the village, stepped forward and shot the huge mountain pig to death with a bow and arrow, but his arm was wrapped around the demon and left a mark, in fact, this is the curse of the demon, and the cursed person can only wait for death in silence. Before his death, the mountain pig said, "O filthy human being, one day you will know my pain and resentment." The old woman in the village looked at the iron bullet in the mountain pig's body and knew that something unpeace had happened in the west, so she asked Asidaka to look west for a way to lift the curse. Asidaka cut off his ambitions, left the tribe, and never returned. By the way, this tribe originally fought against the Yamato people, but ended in failure and lived in seclusion in a corner of the Tohoku Mountains for five hundred years. According to the rules, Asidaka will never return, and no one can say goodbye, but Asidaka's lover (although called sister, he is actually the lover of the green plum bamboo horse) still risks being punished to bid farewell to his brother, and gives the most beloved knife to his lover.

Wading through mountains and mountains, Asidaka finally came to the west, and as a result, he happened to encounter robbers robbing the village, and he performed excellent archery to destroy several robbers dressed as samurai. When Asidaka bought rice in the village, he used gold, and as a result, the locals did not know the goods, but thanks to a yunyou monk, the two accompanied. It turned out that the Monk Yunyou was very knowledgeable, and the first time he saw Asidaka, he knew that Asidaka came from the "extinct" Oriental people. Eating man's short mouth, the monk ate asidaka's rice, so he told him that if he wanted to lift the curse, he would have to go west through the forest under the control of the mountain beast god.

In the middle of the forest, heavy rain poured down, and the dog god Mona took advantage of the heavy rain to attack the team returning from the merchants of Fantasy, only to be hit in the neck by Fanji with a fire arrow. Inuyasha escapes with Inu No. 1 and Yamagu no. 2, and Princess Mononoke is seen by the male protagonist when she sucks bullets for Inuyasha. The male protagonist took the initiative to say hello, and the result was ignored! At the edge of the cliff, several members of the phantom caravan fell into the water and groaned in pain, and the good man took the initiative to rescue, and in the process of rescue, he saw the elves in the forest who would turn their heads. Led by the elves, Asidaka and the two people he saved came to a clean water edge deep in the forest, and vaguely, the male protagonist saw a deer in the deer herd that was extremely unusual, and the curse of the arm also occurred at this time.

Through the forest, we came to Dadara City, the city under the control of Lord Fantasia. Asidaka rescues Dadara's Kosho, but Dadara's people are suspicious when they see a stranger dressed in strange costumes coming to the castle, and Fantasia still receives the uninvited guest very politely. And the male protagonist is particularly popular with women because of a handsome face. The castle is full of fun, men and women working, so it is not lively. At the banquet, Asidaka learns that the wild boar that attacked his village was injured by Fantasia. That is to say, the wild boar herd that Xianji led people to cut down the forest and protect the forest clashed, the wild boar herd was defeated, and the mountain boar boss Nago was shot by Xianji, and his bones were eroded, and then he was possessed by the evil demon and went all the way east to the village of Asidaka, and the story began.

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

At first, Fantasia thought that Asidaka was the person of the dog god, but after learning that Asidaka was from the East, she showed him Dadara's secret. It turned out that Dadara was the one who rescued the slaves and prostitutes at the bottom of society, led them to establish The "free" stronghold of Dadara, and wanted to use this as a base to encroach on the forest and eventually establish a free and rich country. Fan ji not only takes in the poor, but also the lepers who have been abandoned by the world, so all the people of Dadara have great respect for fan ji and work hard to repay the favor of fan ji. But the royal family was very jealous of Dadara's existence.

In the night, Princess Mononoke attacks Dadara, Fantasia and San, and the battle between the two women begins! Asidaka stops the fight and knocks the two unconscious, leaving Dadara with Shan, but before leaving the door, she is shot in the heart by Dadara's woman with a fire arrow.

Asidaka is seriously injured, princess Mononoke wants to kill him with a knife, and a sentence of "Hello beauty" (because in the eyes of the dog god Mona, her daughter Shan is particularly ugly) completely obliterates Shan's murderous heart. At this time, the orangutans also came to join in the fun, trying to gain human intelligence by eating Asidaka, which was a stupid idea.

As night fell, the elves danced, the unicorn beast appeared, and the hunters hiding in the forest in animal skins saw the fluorescent giant. Shan placed Asidaka by the lake where the Unicorn Beast would walk and inserted a branch, and sure enough, the Kirin Beast absorbed the life of the branch and saved Asidaka, but did not remove the curse on Asidaka.

The pigs are clustered, and Lai Xingshi asks the guilt: Why did the dog god save Asidaka, a human being, but not the pig god Naggot, who guards the forest? The contradictions within the forest are prominent, and the wild boar herd has always thought that the dog god Mona has eaten Nago, while the cut mountain beast god monopolizes the mountain beast god. Mona also mentioned for the first time the attitude of the mountain beast god towards life: the mountain beast god was in charge of life and death, and the salvation of life was completely determined by it. Kansai's pig god Lord Yoshitoko came, invisible but sensitive to smell (Otsho and Mona were lovers hundreds of years ago), and when Asidaka told Yoshitoko about the demonic attack on the village, the sensible Yoshitos knew everything and said, "If I see you again, I will kill you."

At the same time, Asano sent an army to attack Dadara's caravan, only to be beaten back by the stone rocket team lent by the Unyu monk to Fanji.

The monks were received by Dadara and entered the city of Dadara. Asano's emissaries came to persuade him to surrender, and as a result, he was well received by the women of Dadara.

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

The Yunyou monk gave a letter to Fan Ji, which turned out to be the emperor's letter of invitation, and the true identity of the Yunyou monk was exposed: first, as a disciple of the paper umbrella master, he captured the mountain beast god to obtain the art of immortality; second, as the emperor's emissary, he negotiated with Dadara; third, the stone rocket team and the people dressed as yunyou monks, as well as the leader of the Kansai hunters.

At this time, Asano is gathering samurai and preparing to attack Dadara; wild boars are clustered and ready to fight with Phantom Ji to the death; Yunyou Monk leads the Stone Rocket Team to cooperate with Phantom Ji and prepares to hunt and kill the Mountain Beast God...

Three days later, Asidaka woke up from the pain of the curse and it was all over... Mona listens to the wailing of wild boar herds wreaking havoc in the forest... The dog god Mona confessed Shan's origins, Shan was a child abandoned by humans in the forest, adopted by mountain dogs, and now, Shan can neither be a human, nor can she be a mountain dog, the forest cannot protect Shan, and Asidaka does not know if she can protect this girl...

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

At the beginning of the decisive battle, the humans laid traps, and the Stone Rocket Team used the men of Dadara as bait to lure the wild boars out of the forest; the wild boars knew that they were traps, and for the sake of dignity, they also decided to fight to the death!

At this time, while Fantasy Ji led the men of Dadara to a decisive battle with wild boars and the emptiness of Dadara Castle, Asano sent samurai to attack Dadara City.

Assidaka, as a messenger, went to the front line of the decisive battle between humans and the forest to report, at this time, the battle situation was decided, because the gap in strength was huge, and the humans defeated the wild boar herd with an overwhelming advantage, and the wild boar herd was completely destroyed... Asidaka tells the men of Dadara about the current situation in Dadara City, but is blocked by the monks, and the cooperative Stone Rocket Team and Dadara finally break up because of the contradiction... Asidaka rescues Mountain Dog One and heads to the Forest of the Mountain Beast God.

In the middle of the forest, Princess Mononoke, With Mountain Dog Ii and the badly injured Lord Otoshi, are defeated and caught in the siege of Kansai hunters dressed in wild boar skins. Lord Yi took Shan and fell into the demon god, at this time, Asidaka crossed the defense line to find The Phantom Ji and the Cloud Monk.

At the lake of the Mountain Beast God, everyone gathered, and the phantom Ji, the Cloud Monk and the hunters waited for the appearance of the Unicorn Beast... Asidaka desperately saves the unconscious Shan from Lord B and jumps into the lake...

Finally, the Unicorn Beast appeared in the midst of everyone's attention! Phantom Ji shot through the deer-type unicorn beast, but it had no effect. The Unicorn Beast came to Lord B and took the life of Lord B, and the evil demon god disappeared...

The Unicorn Beast transforms, and Fantasia tries to shoot the Kirin Beast, only to be stopped by Asidaka. When Phantom Ji wanted to shoot again, the gun was full of leaves, and the angry Phantom Ji shot and killed the Kirin Beast in the fluorescent state, the Head of the Kirin Beast was knocked down, and the Yunyou Monk took the opportunity to seize it and put the head of the Kirin Beast into the head coffin. However, an unexpected change occurred, the unicorn beast's body suddenly spewed out a black viscous liquid, life met the black liquid and instantly disappeared, the elves died, and the trees withered... Before mona died, she bit off one of Fantasy's arms with her head, but the good-hearted good man Asidaka saved Fantasia, but she was also resented by Princess Ghost San.

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

In order to regain his head, the fluorescent giant completely transformed into the "god of death" who seized life, and everywhere he went, life disappeared... The fluorescent giant became very large, and the black liquid gradually surrounded everything, and at this time, Asidaka and Shan fought in order to snatch the head of the unicorn beast and the Yunyou Monk and their party. With no way back, the Monk handed over the head of the Kirin Beast, and Asidaka and Shan returned the head to the Kirin Beast. After the Unicorn Beast got its head, it gradually recycled the black liquid, and just at this moment, the morning light appeared, and the Kirin Beast fell, causing a fierce wind and blowing everything away... The forest has repented, Dadara has become a ruin, fighting around, all is an empty...

However, the earth suddenly mushroomed like a mushroom, grew green, blossomed, and everything came to life, and even the ruins of Dadara were covered with grass and trees...

Asidaka and Shan wake up, and Asidaka decides to stay in Dadara, and Shan stays in the forest, "I'll come on a deer when I want to see you."

Phantom Ji decides to rebuild Dadara on the ruins and sends someone to pick up Asidaka; the monk says the classic phrase "The fool can never win"; on the old site of the forest, the elf turns his head and comes out...

The group of Princess Mononoke can be divided into three categories

The first category, the gods

Unicorn Beast: Two-sided being that transcends racial boundaries and even transcends time and space. On one side is the god of life, and on the other side is the god of desolation (evil demon god). The true face of the demon god is hatred and resentment, that is, the other side of the unicorn beast, the incomparably dark existence, the pig god Nago and the B lord have successively fallen into the evil demon god because of hatred and unwillingness; the black liquid that the kirin beast finally spews out and the evil demon god is the same thing, that is, the collection of hatred and resentment.

Second, human beings

Asidaka

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

The male protagonist, as a victim and a witness, comes from a distant foreign country. It is completely involuntary to come here far away from the tribesmen and lovers. The appearance of the male protagonist is handsome, the ability is strong, and the personality is perfect. Because the handsome face is surrounded by the women of Dadara; the seriously injured can still push the huge door valve, one person can pick a group of warriors is more than enough; the heart is good, not to make enemies of anyone, to save the lives and the wounded, like a saint; after knowing everything, he still carries out his belief: Can't humans and the forest coexist in harmony? But even if such a perfect person is created, he still can't become a lone hero, can't change all this by himself, and can only endure the pain of the curse. But Miyazaki favored the role because he was an accident and many of his things were exceptions. Even at the end of everyone's harvest, Asidaka lifts the curse and reaps a new place to live, while also reaping love and harvesting a lot. (As for giving the ex-girlfriend's love object to the current girlfriend, no comment will be given.) )

Phantom Ji

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

The past of Phantom Ji is not explained in the movie, but through her dress, speech and demeanor, and courage, we can be sure that she must have an unusual past. In the eyes of the inhabitants of Dadara, she was like a god, beautiful, kind, gentle, and brave, and she took in the bitter slaves and prostitutes who were struggling at the bottom of society, even lepers, so that the suffering people could have their own dignity and freedom in Dadara. In the eyes of the royal family, she was an opponent of the threat to the royal rule, she was not afraid of the imperial power, resolutely refused the government's persuasion and resolute refusal, would never surrender under the strong attack, cut down forests, mined iron ore, and traded with the monks in exchange for muskets to enhance her combat strength; at the same time, she also used lepers to secretly study the method of making muskets, with the purpose of completely getting rid of the royal family in the future and establishing a rich and free country based on Dadara. By the way, the fire arrows used by the Stone Rocket Team were made by the imperial family for export, and the iron ore smelting iron used by the Phantom Ji was the raw material used to make fire arrows. On the forest side, she was the most dangerous person, she personally shot Nago and Yi Shi Lord, in order to destroy the forest, she was used by the Yunyou monks to shoot the Unicorn Beast. Dare to "kill God", dare to be used, for the purpose can be at all means, bold, confident, know what to sacrifice to get what, Fantasy Ji is an excellent leader. In the context of the big story of Princess Mononoke, Fantasy Ji represents a person who seeks freedom without any rules; in order to protect herself and her people, destroy the forest, mine iron ore, and is a self-reliant person; she is convinced that no one but her own people can believe that even the cooperative Yunyou Monk and the Stone Rocket Team, and even the Asano emissaries who came to talk about peace, completely refuse; but because of the iron ore that monopolizes the forest, independently mining iron smelting, seriously affects the interests of the local samurai Asano, Therefore, Fantasy Hime is the number one enemy in the forest and Asano.

Fan Ji is likely to come from a lowly status similar to a prostitute, as a poor woman who has been ruthlessly abandoned by the world, she has long been accustomed to all kinds of ruthlessness and all kinds of bad luck in the world. She took Asidaka to meet the poor lepers, and she was saying wordlessly: You talk to me about curses, then I will show you what is called a real curse! You're not the only one cursed. In this world, innocent people are everywhere. Self-hatred is useless, believing in fate is even more useless, only the gun in your hand is useful! Therefore, she does not believe in fate, she has to control her own destiny, she does not believe in the peaceful coexistence of man and the forest, not so much that she hates the forest, but rather that she hates the unicorn beast that dominates life! My destiny is in my own hands! Therefore, the motivation to kill the Kirin God came from Fan Ji herself, not from the easy compromise of the royal family.

Yunyou Monk (Lord Knotty)

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

In fact, the main way of practicing ascetics is cloud travel and meditation, and Wu Erjun knows a professor from a well-known university in China, whose teacher is a famous ascetic monk in Taiwan, who has practiced in the grave for twenty years, claiming that he has seen all kinds of demons and ghosts. The Yunyou monk in the movie is dressed as an ascetic who travels through the mountains to practice, but he is not a real Yunyou monk, an agent of the royal family and the Dadara iron ore business, and can give the emperor's letters to Xianji. In fact, this kind of person is also the most common person in life: he is well-informed, he recognizes The identity of Asidaka at the first sight of Asidaka, but keeps it secret for Asidaka; as a businessman, his smile is always inseparable from his face, but some words are not credible; Uncle Ji, who thinks about himself everywhere, even if he treats his partner Fanji, he will keep a hand; as a representative of the royal family, he serves the royal family, and the real thoughts in his heart never tell outsiders; because Xianji possesses the mining of iron ore to smelt iron, so he cooperates with Xianji. However, he persuaded Fanji to give half of the iron ore to Asano, because it did not matter to him who would make iron, what was important was that he could get the iron resources. Yunyou Monk lures Fan Ji into participating in the hunting of the Unicorn Beast but lets Dadara's men act as bait, and in the final battle to win the first place, Yunyou Monk and his men fight Against Asidaka and Shan, and will do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. Therefore, Yunyou Monk is the most character-rich character in the movie.

Asano (Local Samurai)

Asano was a representative of local power, but never made an official appearance. He wants to mine iron ore but has no choice but to attack Dadara by force. The relationship between local samurai and the imperial family is not very good, a bit like the Tang Dynasty of China, where the imperial power is not centralized, and the local government has independent military rights and interests and can summon the samurai themselves. In the battle with Phantom Ji, the Stone Rocket Team, which was lent to Phantom By the Imperial Family, was defeated. He tried to talk to Fan Ji but was completely rejected. The Monk and the Phantom Ji led Dadara's main force to a decisive battle with the forest, while they sent samurai to attack Dadara.

Paper Umbrella Master (Master Craftsman)

It does not appear in the play, but only mentions it. The paper umbrella master was a craftsman who had the technology to make muskets, and because the musket was a commodity used by the royal family to export for money, the status of the paper umbrella master was very high. In addition, these people have always wanted to live forever, so they sent Yunyou monks to hunt down and kill mountain beast gods, which shows that these masters are not good people.

Third, forest beings

Shan (Princess Mononoke)

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

Shan's character is like the wolf child in "Wolf Child", abandoned by humans, adopted by the dog god, and becomes the daughter of the dog god.

There is a story in reality, in 1920, in a small town called Midnapol in the northeast of Kolkata, India, it is common to see that there is a "mysterious creature" that haunts the nearby forest, often at night, there are two "human-like monsters" walking on all fours trailing behind three large wolves... I don't know if the prototype of Princess Mononoke comes from this story...

Shan is different from the "wolf child", because Shan is more like a person than a wolf child, with all the characteristics of a human being. Shan is simple, throughout the story of "Princess Mononoke", Shan is located on this side of the forest, bent on protecting the forest, and the biggest enemy in her heart is The Phantom Ji who destroys the forest and shoots her mother.

Inuyasha (Mona)

The inuyasha in Japanese mythology is the soul of a dog that lingers in the world after death, and can be attached to a person, causing people to hallucinate and insane. Obviously, Miyazaki's inuyasha Mona is another kind of image, and the inuyasha god can be said to be the favorite image of Princess Mononoke. Inuyasha is wise and loves to hate, and its height of view of strife is second only to that of the Kirin God. She took in shan, the abandoned son of a human, and raised her like her own daughter, she knew that shan could neither be a human nor a mountain dog, but she still regarded shan as her own. Mona's greatest enemy in life is Fantasy. In her opinion, Fanji was the culprit who shot Nago and destroyed the forest, and although she was old and was shot by Fanji, she always kept her last breath and wanted to bite the head of Fanji. Listening to the mourning of the forest, listening to the mournful cry of the wild boar, hatred but helplessness, after all, the power of the human stone rocket team is overwhelming, and the forest beings simply cannot resist. Inuyasha is the leader of the forest, and his status and prestige in the forest are very high, so he has gained a lot of respect. Before dying, biting off one of Fanji's arms was also revenge. Mona has lived in the forest for hundreds of years, witnessed the changes of the forest herself, and her love for the forest is deep and profound. Mona was hit in the body by an iron bullet like Nago and Lord Yi, but Mona was not demonized, but quietly waited for death. "The mountain beast god did not heal my wounds, but redeemed my soul..." The dog god saw through everything...

Orangutan herd

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

In the real world, orangutans are the closest to humans in terms of intelligence, but Princess Mononoke's orangutans are the most brainless, living in the forest, thinking about protecting the forest, gathering outside Dadara to harass humans, but never daring to confront each other like a wild boar herd. They also have a bold idea - cannibalism, in their view, eating people can have human wisdom, can deal with human beings. In the eyes of Wu Erjun, the orangutan group is a blind weak person in the forest, with ideas and ambitions but average strength, and never appears in the front line of the head-on duel.

Rat swarms

Filth, plague, always appear in times of chaos, thieves of grain, fish in muddy waters. This is our most straightforward understanding of the rat herd, floods, droughts, wars, rats are always in groups when disasters come to plague the world. The same goes for Princess Mononoke's rat colony. Disasters are coming, and so are they! Lord B leads the wild boar herd to fight the phantom ji and the stone rocket team, and the hunters in animal skins press forward to the lord of the B matter step by step, and the rat swarm follows! Of course, the rat herd is also a victim, because the living environment has been destroyed because of the war, but they still think about whether they can gain something in the chaos.

Wild boar herd

Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke

The one who walks in the front is always the one who hurts the most. The wild boar herd is the warrior of the forest, in order to protect the forest and the phantom Ji fought on the front line, although the strength gap is large, almost a suicidal attack, but the wild boar herd did not flinch at all, and eventually the whole army was destroyed. The two wild boar kings, Nago and Lord Yi, were shot one after another, and the iron block corroded the bones, causing the evil demon god to possess, and eventually degenerated into an evil god who could only bring destruction. The wild boar herd was the hardest-losing side in the forest defense war. Lord B has a special ability to sniff out a person's memory through the sense of smell, and This is how Asidaka passed on the last words of the pig god Naggo to Lord B. The wild boar herd is proud to think that the appearance of evil demons in the clan is a very sad thing, and even if the whole army is destroyed, it will not use the power of the dog god.

Nago and Yi are the gods of the forest, and both have the "divinity" given by the unicorn beast. But it is precisely because of the existence of this divinity that they still do not believe in defeat even after a defeat, struggle in despair and pain, and will not give up even if there is a glimmer of life, so that the blind Lord B smells the blood of wild boars when he is surrounded by hunters, and is still calling: "My warrior is back!" "Because of despair, because of unwillingness, the heart is corroded and transformed into a demonic god." An ordinary wild boar cannot be demonized, because it has not been given "divinity" by the unicorn beast.

Hayao Miyazaki and Princess Mononoke

A great feature of Miyazaki's works is that the picture is very beautiful, often the girl is the protagonist, and the story is very beautiful. But in fact, behind all his beauty is hidden shocking darkness, such as "Totoro", such as "Spirited Away", beautiful pictures, beautiful stories, everything seems so clean and pure, but behind the beautiful is indeed dirty and dark. Therefore, most of Miyazaki's works have a commonality, adults and children can see, children see a beautiful fairy tale; and adults can see the darkness hidden behind them in addition to seeing fairy tales.

"Princess Mononoke" literally translated as "Monster Hime". In the eyes of Peerless, "Princess Mononoke" is undoubtedly the pinnacle of Miyazaki Hayao, the theme of this movie is still the big proposition of how to coexist between humans and nature, through the contradictions and wars between forests, between humans, between humans and forests, portrays an epic of man and nature, to find a way for people and nature to coexist and promote you, however, the ending is a void: no one side is the winner, all groups are losers, and the loser Grand League sees that everything is zeroed out, and begins to look for a new beginning...

Japan is the country with the most natural disasters in the world, so the sense of awe is always inseparable from this nation. Because of reverence, so faith. Japanese people believe that every object has spirituality, and works such as "The Tale of Genji" and "Chieftain Festival" illustrate this very well.

"Using Japan as a stage to make a fantasy work" was Miyazaki's idea when he was around the age of 20, and it was almost 20 years since the work was released in 1997. Princess Mononoke is based on numerous pictures from the Mesopotamian myth Gilgamesh, Sasuke Nakao and Takaaki Sasaki's Teruba Wood Culture, Yoshihiko Neto's medieval view of the people, the atlas "Once Again and Again", Takao Yamauchi's "Wataru Terroir", which records the whole process of iron smelting in the bellows, Uji's Tale of the Five-Colored Deer, and various materials displayed in the Leprosy National Sanatorium "Tama Gensen". In Miyazaki's book "The War Between the Brutal Mountain Gods and Humans", it is described that there are no samurai, lords, and peasants in the previous costume dramas in this work, and even if they appear, they are very inconspicuous characters. The main protagonists are people who cannot be seen on the stage of history and cruel mountain gods.

Miyazaki went through deep thoughts before creating this story. Here's a conversation between Yoshihiko Mitano and Hayao Miyazaki about Princess Mononoke:

MIYAZAKI: I've been wondering what the forest would have looked like before. If you see the garden of the heian-style dormitory, you will wonder why the people of that time could have built it so empty. Is it because there are deep mountains and valleys in front of it? Or wait until the surrounding deep mountain valley is gone, and then recreate the deep mountain valley in the garden? I will explain that the reason why the garden was built in Higashiyama and other places must be because the surrounding area has become empty, and the time point should also be during the Muromachi period.

Yoshihiko Umino: The dry landscape that symbolizes the deep mountain valley began in the Muromachi period. The commercial trading and financial industries also became officially operational during the Muromachi period.

Once the whole world became rich and money began to circulate, reasonable calculation behavior came into being. The desire for wealth naturally becomes very strong, and this desire transcends the fear of nature. Because before that, the Japanese subconsciously believed that mountains or seas were the world of gods and Buddhas that could not be reached by human forces, so as long as they touched that world, such as every year when they went up the mountain to hunt or go out to sea to fish, they always used to offer their first harvest, or use some form to thank the gods and Buddhas.

Miyazaki: Yeah. For there is still fear and reverence in their hearts.

What exactly is Princess Mononoke illustrating?

1 The laws of nature

The laws of nature represented by the unicorn beast in Princess Mononoke. People, things, and things all exist in nature, and so does society. Nature never favors anyone, nor does it hate anyone. In the face of nature, all living beings are equal. As a law of nature, the unicorn beast's ability is to absorb and give life, but to give or suck is entirely in its own hands. The unicorn beast is invincible in the state of "deer", or in the state of "beast", and the place where it passes, the grass and trees grow rapidly, flourish, flower to wilt, which is precisely the process of life from birth to death. Life is a normal and simple thing for the Unicorn Beast. Just like the birth, old age, illness and death in nature, they are all processes of nature, and nature will not change because of the birth and death of one thing and one thing. The Unicorn Beast chose life and death and never obeyed anyone's wishes, as the dog god Mona said, "The Mountain Beast God is in charge of life and death, and the salvation of life is completely determined by it." Just like the earth we live on, the occurrence of natural disasters is never premised on human will, earthquakes, volcanoes, El Niño, everything is so "willful". It also needs to be paid attention to a place where the iron bullet of the Unicorn Beast under the body of the "Beast" has no effect on it, and the iron bullet of the Phantom Ji pierces its neck, but has no effect on it. On the shore of the holy lake, the unicorn beast transformed into a "fluorescent giant", transforming from the form of a "beast" into a "human", in the process, the unicorn beast was fragile, and an iron bullet easily hit its head. The nature we live in can be easily destroyed by humans, bombs can blow up a mountain in a second, and logging machines can destroy a forest in a week. But the "human" shaped unicorn beast is terrifying. Phantom Ji hit its head, and an endless black liquid spewed out of its body, seemingly drowning everything, and life disappeared in an instant. At this time, the unicorn beast is no longer the god of life, but the god of destruction, and everywhere it goes, everything is dry; only water is safe, and water is the source of life. This is actually the other side of nature: seizure. Nature can give or take. When we cut down the forest, sandstorms came; the rivers were polluted, the fish and shrimp were dead, and the water was no longer drinkable. This is the "hurt regurgitation" of man destroying nature. When the Unicorn Beast took back its head, the black liquid began to recycle; when the morning light first appeared, the Kirin Beast fell, transforming into a fierce wind blowing green the human world, and another cycle of life began...

Did the Unicorn Beast die in the end? No! The Unicorn Beast represents life and death. As far as the Qilin God is concerned, thousands of years of clouds cirrus clouds, vicissitudes, and the growth and dryness of life are all the processes of this vast world, and death is not the end, but the beginning of new life.

2 People are evil, beasts are wild

No matter how beautiful people are on the outside, they have an evil side. In the movie, Fantasy Ji cuts down forests to mine iron ore, makes guns and shoots the pig god; the royal family sends samurai to attack Dadara for iron ore... People can solve problems through violent means and achieve their own ends. As the ruler of the earth, man has an absolute advantage over other life and has the power to kill and kill, and the wild boar herd in the forest will not hesitate to fight for violence in order to protect the forest, and fight until the whole army is destroyed. This is the wild nature of the beast, which we generally call "bestiality." But in fact, both humans and beasts are violent and can solve problems with violent means. But can violence really solve the problem? The answer in the movie is no, because in the end everyone gets nothing. (Except, of course, Asidaka)

3 The controversy between rationalism and mysticism

Rationalism can describe things logically and theoretically, and we can understand objectivity; while mysticism, which describes and understands things from the spiritual and spiritual point of view, we can understand it as subjectivity. Taking the Mountain Beast God as an example, Fan Ji believes that the Mountain Beast God is just a monster that is a little more powerful than ordinary beasts, and human beings can dominate their own destiny and do not need the existence of "gods", so she dares to "kill the gods"; and the first hunter of Kansai does not even dare to look at it, for fear of seeing the mountain beast god blind; Yunyou Monk also entrusts the task of shooting the mountain beast god to Fan Ji to complete. The Paper Umbrella Master and the Yunyou Monk believe that the head of the Kirin Beast can live forever, but Fan Ji does not believe it. Rationalism and mysticism have always been at odds with each other, as in philosophy between materialism and idealism, but the two have always coexisted. Even for a person, materialism and idealism often coexist: we believe in scientific statistics, but we also revere certain things that we cannot explain.

How do man and nature coexist?

Miyazaki did not give an answer. The contradiction between man and man, the contradiction between man and nature, the contradiction between the things of nature have not been resolved, and when human beings try to solve the problem with violence, they find that they have lost much more than they have gained. Of course, some people say that the film is an "environmentally friendly" work, but Miyazaki strongly rejects this view. Because the word "environmental protection" seems so insignificant in the meaning he really wants to express. Man and nature, society and nature, man lives in nature, and with talent there is society. Miyazaki deliberately avoided the reunion ending in the end, leaving behind an unsolvable puzzle. And if these problems are forcibly solved through violence, then instead of solving them, they may become worse... In the process of evolution, people will always grab resources from nature and destroy nature, and there is nothing wrong with human beings in order to survive, but nature is even more correct, so irreconcilable contradictions appear. The emergence and development of any civilization comes at the expense of the destruction of nature, and human beings will continue to destroy nature for the sake of development, but there are more than human beings in nature (although we are very self-contained in separating human society from nature, it is undeniable that society is also based on nature). Human beings obtaining resources from nature must affect the interests of other species in nature, so contradictions arise again. But what distinguishes human beings from other beings is that human beings are intelligent beings and have absolute superiority, so the Son of Man naturally has almost absolute dominance. Humans obtain resources to survive better, like The Phantom Mining Iron Ore in order to live a good life for the prostitutes and slaves of Dadara. Is there something wrong? Therefore, it is by no means right or wrong that can be clearly distinguished between black and white. Miyazaki has been thinking hard for years, creating this epic work has not solved this problem, how can we find this coexistence of the answer? Perhaps, "live" and "live together" is the best way. You're in the forest, I'm in Dadara, I'll ride a deer to find you...

In reality, we will encounter all kinds of problems, but in fact, there are many problems that we cannot solve, and when we are powerless, there is another choice, that is, to start over and strive for a better future. As The End of Fantasia says, "Let's rebuild this village together!" ”

A quote from the geologist Ding Zhongli concludes:

We clamor every day that human beings want to save the earth, but in fact, the earth does not need to be saved, and what really needs to be saved is our own human beings.

A long time ago, there was a kind of life on Earth called dinosaurs, they had dominated the earth for a long time, I don't know if they ever thought of saving the earth, but they are extinct...
