As an important part of Chinese archaeology, Shandong archaeology has also gone through the same process. Since Mr. Wu Jinding discovered the Chengziya site in 1928, generation after generation of Shandong archaeologists have struggled one after another, the archaeological work system has been established and improved, the scale of work has been continuously expanded, important discoveries have emerged in an endless stream, the level of academic research and technological development has been continuously improved, and many archaeological work has been at the forefront of the country.

The Department of Culture and Tourism of Shandong Province systematically sorted out the major archaeological achievements of Shandong Province in the past century, displayed the achievements of Shandong's archaeological work, and organized and carried out the "Shandong Centennial 100 Important Examination Discoveries" selection and promotion activities. The event was hosted by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Shandong Province (Shandong Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics) and hosted by the Shandong Archaeological Society. After the recommendation of archaeological professional institutions, the voting of the directors of the Archaeological Society, expert review, social publicity and other procedures, adhering to the selection principle of "fairness, justice, openness and professionalism", 100 projects such as Zhangqiu Chengziya Site and Qin'an Dawenkou Site were selected as "Shandong Hundred Important Archaeological Discoveries in a Hundred Years".
The selected projects not only cover the whole era, but also include projects from Paleolithic, Neolithic, Xia Shang, Two Zhou, Qin and Han, Wei and Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Sui and Tang Dynasties, to the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and are widely distributed, almost all over the province. At the same time, there are many types of archaeological remains, such as settlements, city sites, tombs, quarries, temple sites, Buddhist cellars, ancient shipwrecks, salt industry sites, hydraulic facilities and so on; In addition, there are many Neolithic sites, especially cultural naming places. Such as Houli culture, Beixin culture, Dawenkou culture, Longshan culture, Yueshi culture, Pearl Gate culture and so on. These archaeological cultures constitute a systematic and regional cultural genealogy of the Haidai region.
The trees of the heavens will have their roots, and the waters of the mountains will have their sources. The 100 important archaeological discoveries selected this time reflect the important contribution of Shandong archaeology in exploring the origin of Chinese civilization, restoring the historical development context, and displaying the brilliant achievements of Chinese civilization.
