Interview with Martin Freeman of The Hobbit: The biggest challenge is in the character

1905 Movie Network: The Hobbit trilogy series finally comes to an end and is about to say goodbye to the audience, how do you feel now?

Martin Freeman: I'm particularly excited to share our finale with you, and I hope the audience will enjoy it.

1905 Movie Network: In your opinion, is there anything special about Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies compared to the first two parts of the Hobbit series?

Martin Freeman: For me, I wouldn't stress that this one is special. Because the whole series is special. I think if you watched the first two, you should be wondering how the whole series ended, and we had a really good ending.

1905 Movie Network: In the film, is there a scene that you particularly like?

Martin Freeman: I really enjoyed shooting those scenes from Bilbo and Solin, they were full of power. Then there was the huge war of five armies. I like the way Bilbo looks in the film, he's always running around and jumping around.

1905 Movie Network: We see that Bilbo the Hobbit has actually been growing and changing throughout the series, what do you think of Bilbo's journey to Middle-earth?

Martin Freeman: I think Bilbo has had a great journey. Those fantastic experiences, I like many aspects of Bilbo, he was shy and brave. Those who pluck up courage, those who are sad, and those who are funny, you can see many elements of this journey.

1905 Movie Network: Do you feel similar to Bilbo, who plays Bilbo in the film?

Martin Freeman: Absolutely. We have the same looks, the same voices (laughs). Well, I would choose peace over war, I like to stay home instead of running around, I like food and I like good clothes.

1905 Movie Network: Do you think the feelings you put into the Hobbit series are very different from other works?

Martin Freeman: I always put my heart and soul into my work. I've made some films that are very popular, and then there are some works that aren't seen by people. For every work, I am always 100% committed to it, and it is the same emotionally. If anything, because [the Hobbit series] we all shot together for two and a half years, we will have a deep friendship, but the investment in the work is the same.

1905 Movie Network: What was the biggest challenge in filming?

Martin Freeman: The biggest challenge for me was to make sure that I was in this role for two and a half years of shooting, to maintain the coherence of the character, and at the same time to grasp when and how the role would change, to keep the whole performance coherent.

1905 Movie Network: What was it like to work with director Peter Jackson and so many actors?

Martin Freeman: Very good. I like Peter Jackson as a person, and I also like working with director Peter Jackson, and we have a great relationship. Working with the actors was also great, we became friends and will definitely continue to meet and chat in the future.
