HKUST students: They want to better apply their research to national development strategies

Hong Kong, 27 Oct (Xinhua) -- The third campus report meeting on "Building a Great Power and Building a Dream for the Future" was held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on the afternoon of 27 October. Zhang Kun, chief expert of China State Construction Group and chief engineer of China State Construction Third Bureau, gave a report on the theme of "The Scientific and Technological Force Behind China's Construction", showing the scientific and technological strength supporting the rapid development of China's construction from the perspective of an engineer.

"I may emphasize more in the future on how to apply what we have studied to the country's overall development strategy." Tao Xingyu, a doctoral student at the School of Civil Engineering and Environment at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, said that the "double carbon", the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the intelligent construction mentioned in the report are his current research directions, and he will be deeply encouraged after listening to the report.

"I hope to be able to quickly apply my research to the construction industry in the future." Hou Yujie, a student at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, said that she is studying construction robots and hopes to make her own contribution to promoting the better development of the construction industry in the future.

"This lecture actually added a lot of brilliance to our 30th anniversary celebration, allowing us to have a better understanding of the scientific and technological forces behind the country's major projects, which is very important and very useful for exchanges between the two places." Wu Hongwei, dean of the Fok Ying Tung Graduate School at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, said.
