Public information shows that in 1984, 17-year-old Chang Dingqiu entered the basic school of flight and began a glorious flying career, and later became a fighter pilot as desired. Since 2000, he has served as the commander of a certain flight regiment of the Air Force Aviation Corps, and later served as the deputy division commander and division commander of the Third Division of the Fighter Aviation Division of the Air Force.
Although he has held leadership positions in the military for many years, his flying career of more than 30 years has not only enabled Chang Dingqiu to cultivate excellent flying skills, but also made him unable to give up the complex of flying. "I have flown six or seven types of J-6, J-7, J-10, Su-30 and so on," Chang Ding asked in an interview with the media earlier, counting his flight experience, "Chinese the People's Liberation Army has a tradition of daring to shout 'look at me'." He was a pioneer and a soldier throughout Chang Dingqiu's military career. When he first served as the head of the flight regiment, Chang Dingqiu faced an embarrassing situation: during the first cross-regional maneuvering mission, 8 of the 20 aircraft dispatched failed and two could not take off. Chang Dingqiu completed that maneuvering mission with a hard scalp.
Seeing the outstanding performance of the other echelons - four of the echelons flew over the airport almost against the roof of the farmhouse, and after passing through the field at ultra-low altitude in turn, they quickly landed on small routes, the movements were clean and sharp, showing superb flying skills - after the mission, Chang Dingqiu began to lead the team to study hard and train carefully. Finally, half a year later, all the pilots of his flying regiment were familiar with the above-mentioned difficult "stunts".

On that day, the cloud obscured the fog, the visibility was less than 3 kilometers, and the complex weather conditions made the flight full of uncertainty. After saying that, he was the first to take part in the examination, sometimes dodging the discovery of "enemy planes" in the clouds, sometimes pretending to attack head-on under the clouds, sometimes flanking and detouring, and within five minutes, he achieved the record of three battles and three victories. The assessment leaders on the ground applauded, and Chang Dingqiu and his team successfully removed the title of "military training first-level unit".
In the courtyard of a certain division of the Air Force Aviation Corps, where Chang Dingqiu was the commander of the division, there is still a monument with the word "dare" standing, with a huge blood-red "dare" character on the front and a three-line character on the back: dare to be the first, dare to take responsibility, and dare to fight and win.
This is a true portrayal of the personality of the unit where Chang Ding Qiuhe belongs. According to the "People's Liberation Army Daily," in the summer of 2004, in an airspace in north China, Chang Dingqiu, as the commander of the "Red Army," led a second-generation aircraft group to compete with the "Blue Army" equipped with third-generation fighters. If we only look at the equipment, the strength of this air duel is very different, and no one is optimistic about the "Red Army" led by Chang Dingqiu. Because compared with the third-generation fighter, the second-generation fighter is not only "short-sighted" and not flexible, while the third-generation fighter has a long range and good mobility, and the "Red Army" pilots are likely to be shot down before they are found. However, it was in such a duel with a huge disparity in strength that Chang Dingqiu led the warriors to victory.
The larger the gap in strength, the more calm and calm Chang Dingqiu became. He stared closely at the screen, his brain was running at high speed, and the order blurted out like a cannon: "The first batch of dual planes took off and turned left and ascended, the second batch of twin planes took off in two waves, taking a large altitude difference and directly entering, the first two planes reached the airspace and maneuvered separately, and the rear two planes maneuvered vertically..." With his command, the air situation reversed, and the "Red Army" assault aircraft group changed from "safari" to "combined attack", no matter what direction the "Blue Army" pilots moved, there was always a "trap" set by the "Red Army." In the end, in the 60 air battles of the "Red and Blue" fierce battle, Chang Dingqiu led the "Red Army" to break through the opponent's air interception 57 times.

In November 2006, a multi-service joint exercise was conducted somewhere in Eastern China, and Chang Dingqiu was ordered to take a wingman to a strange airspace at sea for aerial interception. The aerial visibility of the day was only two kilometers, and the cloud bottom was less than 500 meters high, and under such conditions, long-range raids, low-altitude cruises, and large-load maneuvers were at risk of aircraft destruction and death.
But the exercise is the most possible simulated war, and Chang Dingqiu still says, "The enemy doesn't care if the weather is good or bad!" Chang Dingqiu, then deputy division commander, and Han Shengyan, division commander, reached a consensus and selected the best pilots to form a gold medal lineup, aiming to win. At the sound of an order, Chang Dingqiu led the team to fly over the coastline and reach the airspace to be fought. After the air battle began, the team was like a sharp knife flying in the air, inserted into the throat of the "enemy plane", the knife was fatal, hitting the opponent by surprise, and when they found Chang Dingqiu's interception formation, they had already been attacked 4 times in a short period of time.
With his outstanding command, Chang Dingqiu set a number of "firsts" such as the first time that this type of fighter carried out a major task during the modification period, the first time to conduct actual combat confrontation under unknown conditions and unfamiliar environments, and the first time to exercise high-sea low-altitude tactical subjects.

Of course, Chang Dingqiu, who dared to shine his sword and was brave and good at war, was not a reckless man, but was supported by sufficient flight knowledge. In the military, he is a well-known "flying psychology expert", expanding flight psychology to training, practice, and future battlefields. He took the lead in setting up a group to study the psychological quality of pilots, and led the members of the group to carry out psychological regulation of the pilots of the whole regiment, detect problems as early as possible, and prevent problems before they occur.
Chang Dingqiu is also an excellent instructor. In October 2002, aviation theory experts from various units of the Air Force gathered in Beijing to participate in the aviation theory teaching competition. This is another battlefield for Chang Dingqiu, who comprehensively analyzed the impact of the head-raising torque on the aiming point in the dive of the "ground target training" aircraft to the experts present, and proposed methods and measures to improve the hit rate. The lecture was innovative and well-organized, and deservedly won the first place in the competition.
For technology and knowledge, Chang Dingqiu's love is no less than flying. As early as 1992, when Chang Dingqiu was an ordinary pilot, he used his savings for a year to buy a computer, just to be able to skillfully use computers for programming.
In that era, he keenly introduced network technology to flight training and realized all-round network management. He also cooperated with several comrades-in-arms to create the "Flight Training Organization Command Network Management System", referred to as "Flying Eagle Network", which filled the gap in the field of military training of the Air Force, which was also popularized and promoted in the army as a special software for the construction of a new round of training supporting the whole army.
Chang Dingqiu knows very well that talent is the key to a strong army. During his tenure as the commander of a certain regiment of the aviation corps, he saw that the tactical level of the flying backbone of the regiment was uneven, and he could not train a flight commander in a year. He was very anxious and began to formulate a plan for cultivating talents, and took the lead in compiling such materials as "Flight Teaching Model for J-X Aircraft", "Model for Flying In a Certain Tactics", "Innovative Tactics", "Detailed Rules for The Organization and Management of Flight Training", "Question Bank for Theories of Tactics", and "Manual for Commanders". For a time, the regiment 'overtook the party by catching up with the study and helping others', and the problem of "shortage of qualified personnel" was greatly improved.
Fly in battle, fight in flight
After the military reform in 2016, Chang Dingqiu became the deputy commander of the Southern Theater, becoming the youngest theater-level officer in active service. The newly established theater shoulders the important mission of guarding the southern gate of the motherland and safeguarding the rights and interests of the South China Sea.

At the military parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War on September 3, 2015, Chang Dingqiu, then chief of staff of the Air Force of the Shenyang Military Region, as the leader of the J-10 echelon, led 15 J-10 fighters to fly over Tiananmen Square to be inspected by the motherland and the people. At the time, he was the youngest general to lead the team.

In fact, Chang Dingqiu was already 48 years old that year, and was about to reach the maximum flight age of the pilot of the Fighter Air Force. He had also been working in the military apparatus for many years, and in order to meet the Victory Day parade, he quickly threw himself into combat and training. "This is the first time since the founding of our country that a military parade has been organized in the form of commemorating the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, which is a memory and inheritance of history." And it is also a bright sword, and its significance is extraordinary."
Since June and July of that year, he has regained his flying skills, including all the difficult subjects of the J-10, such as air combat, ground, ultra-low altitude, and night navigation. In addition, there are intensive physical training, theoretical review, and handling of various abnormal situations.
Every day, he and the warriors get up from 5 a.m. to play tai chi, eat at 7 a.m., and then study coordinated preparation in the morning, and if they fly the next day, they will issue tasks in the afternoon. On the day of the flight, after getting up, you have to make personal preparations and arrive at the airport an hour and a half in advance to train on the plane. In the afternoon, we will conduct a summary study and sort out the lessons learned.
Chang Ding asked for the training of that big military parade as a precious wealth in life. On the training ground, he led the echelon personnel to interpret the flying ginseng, analyze the formation photos taken on the ground, and deduce the details one by one according to the "second meter is not bad" standard. In the physical training room, he gave himself additional strength training courses, and every time he was soaked with sweat in his physical training clothes.
As the captain of the plane on the day of the parade, he knew that the responsibility was great. "To some extent, the meter seconds of the air echelon are not bad, and the meters and seconds of the long plane are not bad." With the mission on his shoulders, he put forward "early foresight and early adjustment". In an interview with CCTV, he introduced that because the flight route covers a large area of densely populated Beijing urban areas, in case of uncontrollable situations, it is necessary to fly away from the urban area as much as possible, and it is also necessary to formulate an emergency plan to complicate the problem as much as possible and take into account the possibilities as much as possible.
Although there is a difference between a military parade and actual combat, Chang Dingqiu especially cherishes the great significance of the parade. "The parade cultivates a person's style, and in this respect there are similarities with actual combat. In fact, air combat is more confrontational, and the requirements for pilots are fast and the movements are very spicy. Therefore, the characteristics of fighter pilots are that they must be both careful and spicy. In the actual combat confrontation, if I am not ready when I do the action, it is likely that his head will not be able to turn as soon as he pulls the load. The military parade requires precision and is more ornamental. The parade formation is large, and the distance is small, and the key is to stabilize the action. ”
In his consciousness, this is an excellent opportunity to enhance the cohesion of the whole army and cultivate the will of the soldiers. The mental outlook displayed by the soldiers in the military parade is the true embodiment of the training level and strength in peacetime.
