Eka design - a person's hot spring: "Yumoto • Do not forget the pavilion"

According to Eka, Yumoto Nobukaku Onsen in Shibata-gun, Miyagi Prefecture is a famous hot spring that has a history of more than 490 years since its opening in 1528 and is a hot spring of the Date clan. Among them, "Yumoto Fukuoka Kuku" (hereinafter referred to as "Fukukaku"), which was also used as a television advertising stage, is considered a long-established inn representing Laoyou Onsen and has been popular with many literary writers. In a secluded place, a secluded, quiet, nature-rich hot spring where you can not only soak in the hot springs and relieve daily fatigue, but also enjoy the history.

A quiet spa town on a plateau, 500m above sea level. In this hot spring town of 5 to 6 inns and day trip bathing facilities, there is a memorial. The inn seems to be named after the fact that Date Masamune once lived and named the place "Don't Forget the Pavilion" and "Wonyu".

You will see this entrance from the road ahead, and the exterior makes you feel quiet. Deep in history, it is a famous inn between history buffs and secret hot springs, and even when it became the stage for the JR East TV commercial "Ikuze, Tohoku", it collected topics.

Impress with the historical hot springs

If you leave your luggage in your room, the first thing you want to enjoy is the spa. In addition to the two private baths "Kurayu Yokusu" and "Inosuke no Yu", there are four bathhouses called "Oyu Kinsendo" and "Shinyu". The hallway leading to the rooms and bathrooms is also full of atmosphere. Many old-fashioned materials and textures have been left on the walls and windows.

The first thing we went to was "Gotenyu", which only had a washroom and amenities. Large windows overlooking the courtyard. Fuyukaku-no-Yu is a simple hot spring that flows directly from the source. It is colorless and transparent, has a smooth feel, and is refreshing, without a sulfur taste. The hot spring is expected to be effective in relieving neuralgia, restoring fatigue and promoting health. There are two sizes of Goten-yu baths, and the male and female baths vary depending on the time of day.

This is followed by a large bath that inherits tradition and was once used as a royal bath for the nobles of the Date clan. Until 2006, it was used as a public bath in the city, divided into male and female baths, but closed due to deterioration. Since then, it was restored in 2008 thanks to restoration work, and now, by exchanging men and women, it can be enjoyed as a large public bath dedicated to hotel guests.

Ayu Kinsendo is considered the oldest of the Aone Onsen. The stone baths of that time were restored using ancient traditional architectural methods when they left the baths, while retaining the baths with the history of wooden structures with harmonious wooden structures and earthen walls, as well as stone baths that have not changed since 490 years ago. The space surrounded by warm lights will calm your mind.

Then go to the reserved baths "Yunosuke no Yu", which hotel guests can use free of charge. From the main building, walk along a corridor of about 3 m, and in the courtyard there is a small dressing room and a short door inside the cottage. Pass by it and lift your face to a small open-air bath for 2 people. In March I felt a cool breeze blowing outside, soaked in a little hot water and felt as if I was in another space.

The most popular private bathroom

Next, we head to "Kurayu Yuji", which is located in the warehouse on the other side of the main building, on the north side of the venue. It is the most popular private bathroom in the same building. Inform at the reception of the lobby that if there is a vacancy, you will be given a "charter ticket" and take a shower. Change to Geta and walk to the innermost space to take a shower, where the warehouse was once used as a library.

The handle of Ryuji Kura's era. When you open the door of the warehouse, you will see the sunbathing illuminated by the lights. The entire warehouse has a bathroom with only a bathtub and a dressing basket. What a space of thick history!

Once used as a granary, only here can you enjoy luxurious moments, immerse yourself in the bathtub, and warm your body from the heart in a quiet space where only the sound of water echoes. Looking up, there was a clay wall on the high ceiling, and I was fascinated by its beauty.

The last thing we went to was "New Soup". It is a stone bath, built in 1528 (Kiryu) and still in use today. Many literary figures, including Date Masamune, have a long history as a resting place. The stairs to the new soup were also great and made me happy to see what kind of bathroom was waiting. There is a dressing room where you can feel the warmth of the wood when you open the door and a stone bath in the middle of the bathroom.

The naturally lit bathtub gives you a different feel in the morning and evening. Shinyu is the second hot spring after Oyu and is the oldest hot spring in oneone onsen.

The café has a retro space

Now, after enjoying these six soups, we would like to stop under the "Café Kensendo" of the main building. Food and drinks are prepared in a nostalgic space with precious exhibits and free of charge. Drinks include sake as well as coffee and tea. Snacks such as konjac and flavored sweets are also available, so you can sit back and relax. Café Kensendo has a retro space to take a break while looking at the exhibits.

Retro spaces in the hallways ( like vintage sinks ) are fascinating.

The palace "Aone Goten" visits valuable exhibits

Hot springs aren't the only attraction. One of them is the Aone Palace, which was created to welcome the owners of the Date family. It was burned down during the Meiji era, but the carpenter who served the Date family rebuilt it in 1932 in two years of old form. Like the main buildings and warehouses, it is designated as a state-registered tangible cultural property.

Located in the center of the site, the Aone Palace is illuminated at night and has a different appearance than during the day, it is a museum that can be visited for free by tourists under the guidance of the general owner. Many valuable materials are displayed, such as books, scrolls, works related to the Date family, and the armor of Date Masamune's father, and you can feel the history as you listen to the story of the landlord. The view from the window was also great.

A luxurious multi-course kaiseki dish with seasonal ingredients

Finally, there is the long-awaited dinner. You can dine in the private dining room on the second floor of the main building. Kaiseki cuisine is served monthly. Part of the reason is because this day is March, and its content is inspired by Hinamatsuri. This meal is popular not only in baths, but also in traveling restaurants.

Your belly and heart will be filled with local delicacies, making the most of the flavors of the ingredients and seasonal fondue dishes. You can enjoy it slowly. In addition, there are a lot of local liquors. Sake "Omotenashi Sake" is a sake that you can only taste under brands such as "Hakurakusei" and "Atago no Matsu" that you can only taste at two inns in Aone Onsen and in Shibata-gun near Fukuoka.

The seating space on the second floor of the main building was also delicious. While dining, you can spend some time overlooking the courtyard while enjoying a Japanese nostalgic style room and six elegant bathrooms in an unselfish temple, where you can forget about your daily life and rest. The nostalgic corridors and rooms have completely healed my mind.

A historic room full of memories

After check-in, enter the room. The spa hotel consists of several buildings such as the main building, Futuan and Nishi Annex (collectively known as "Kinsendo"), in which rooms are scattered.

Each room has a different taste and view, and there are not many in total, such as 14 rooms, so one of the attractions is that you can spend a relaxing time without feeling crowded. In a large room with a nostalgic atmosphere, you will feel that time is slowly passing.
