On the afternoon of 31 August, the former residence of revolutionary martyr Zheng Zuomin was full of people and colorful flags were flying, and the commemorative activity of "commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan and remembering the famous anti-Japanese general Zheng Zuomin" in Xintian County was solemnly held here. Four leaders from Xintian County, veterans of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Xintian County, principal responsible persons of various units directly under the county government, townships and towns, and thousands of people gathered together to commemorate the great achievements of the martyrs and present flower baskets to the revolutionary martyrs.
The commemoration opened with the majestic sound of the National Anthem, and all the personnel bowed to the martyr General Zheng Zuomin in silence.
Zheng Zuomin was a native of Gaoshan Village, Gaoshan Township, Xintian County, a graduate of the first phase of the Huangpu Military Academy, and after the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1937, he served as the deputy commander of the Second Army of the Kuomintang Army and the commander of the Ninth Division, and successively participated in the Battle of Songhu, the Xuzhou Breakthrough Battle, and the Tianjiazhen Guard Battle. On February 3, 1940, Zheng Zuomin was martyred in a fierce battle with the Japanese army at Kunlun Pass, Guangxi. The Nationalist government posthumously awarded Zheng Zuomin the rank of lieutenant general. In 1986, the Ministry of Civil Affairs issued a martyr's certificate and posthumously recognized Zheng Zuomin as a revolutionary martyr.
The commemorative activity was presided over by Qin Shancheng, deputy secretary of the Xintian County CPC Committee and county magistrate.
In his speech, Qin Shancheng said: Seventy years ago, for the sake of national independence and development, people with lofty ideals in Xintian and thousands of patriotic soldiers sacrificed their lives to go to the country in distress and wrote a magnificent historical chapter that touched the heavens and the earth and resisted foreign aggression with their lives and blood. General Zheng Zuomin was one of the first 18 anti-Japanese heroes in Hunan Province, and his outstanding merits and lofty spirit shine with the sun and the moon! Be with the mountains and rivers! Always worthy of our admiration and learning!
Qin Shancheng pointed out: The purpose of our activities to commemorate the seventieth anniversary of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and to commemorate the famous anti-Japanese general Zheng Zuomin is to deeply commemorate the great deeds of the revolutionary martyrs, pay tribute to the heroic souls of the martyrs, pin our condolences on us, express our firm determination to remember history, remember the martyrs, cherish peace, and create a future!

In his speech, Tang Jun, secretary of the Xintian County CPC Committee, said: It is of great significance for us to remember General Zheng Zuomin here and to review the history of the nation; General Zheng Zuomin's life is a life of revolution, a life of fighting, and a brilliant life; he is a national hero and outstanding representative who has come out of the land of Lingling, and he is also our glory and pride. Although he has been gone for 75 years, his noble spirit and moral demeanor will always be a precious asset that inspires the people of Xintian to move forward courageously. In the future, we will give full play to the propaganda and education function of Zheng Zuomin's former residence, make it an important base for carrying out patriotic education, national defense education, and youth education, and make it an important position for disseminating advanced culture, shaping a beautiful soul, and carrying forward social righteousness.
Tang Jun stressed: Keeping in mind the revolutionary martyrs is to better cherish the present, and to carry forward the revolutionary spirit is to better create the future. When we commemorate and study General Zheng Zuomin, we must not only remember his brilliant achievements and admire his noble qualities, but also transform his lofty spirit into a powerful driving force for accelerating the development of Xintian and bravely open up a new situation in which the economy of Xintian is developing rapidly and well.
Subsequently, with a feeling of great reverence, the four leaders of the county slowly walked to the statue of the revolutionary martyr and presented flower baskets to the revolutionary martyrs on behalf of the people of the county. Thousands of people visited Zheng Zuomin's former residence and learned about General Zheng Zuomin's great achievements and brilliant life through pictures, texts and other materials.
