In 2019, the California perch industry or will go to a higher level, feed, seedlings, animal protection, circulation, aquaculture industry will seize this rare market opportunity, get market dividends?
From March to April 2019, Mandarin Perch Frontier, Aquatic Frontier and China Aquatic Products Channel plan to hold the "Second China California Perch Industry Forum and California Perch Breeding Expert Summit" in Foshan, Suzhou and Chengdu, Guangdong Province (the location is initially determined), comprehensively attacking the opportunities and pain points of the development of the California perch industry and talking about the development trend of the California perch industry in the next five years.
In recent years, with the rapid development of the California perch industry and the continuous expansion of the scale of breeding, the demand for fine seeds has become more urgent. A few days ago, the Fisheries and Fisheries Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced that 14 new aquatic species such as the largemouth bass "You perch No. 3" have been approved by the National Aquatic Origin and Fine Seed Approval Committee, and the California perch good breed family is happy to add a new member.
At this juncture, the aquatic frontier research team came to the Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the "Pearl River Institute") and visited Bai Junjie, a researcher.

<b>More than 30 years of hard work have boosted the great cause of California</b> perch seeds
In 2004, researcher Bai Junjie and his team began breeding of California perch species for 15 years, and they have been exposed to the California perch for more than 30 years.
"At that time, the entire industry was relatively backward, and farmers often sold fish in batches and then picked fish as parental reproduction, which in the long run germplasm degradation was very serious, and problems such as slow growth, high deformity rate, and frequent diseases restricted the development of the industry." It is understood that at that time, Guangdong perch could not be listed 100% in that year, and only 20% to 30% of the perch in Jiangsu and Zhejiang could reach the listing specifications in that year.
In 2010, the scientific research team with Bai Junjie, a researcher of the Pearl River Institute as the chief expert, and the Agricultural and Forestry Service Center of Jiujiang Town, Nanhai District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, cooperated to cultivate the "You perch No. 1" through the national aquatic origin and fine seed approval committee, its growth rate is 17.8% to 25.3% faster than that of ordinary varieties, and the deformity rate of high-backed short tail is reduced from 5.2% to 1.1%, which is the first California perch species in China and the first new species of California perch in the world. Since then, the breeding concept of the industry has been greatly adjusted, more attention has been paid to the quality of seedlings, and the coverage rate of fine seed breeding in the country has been greatly improved.
"In recent years, the yield of California perch per mu has been continuously improved, and the time for new fish to be marketed has also been earlier, and the improvement of germplasm has played a great role in it." Now the seedlings in Guangdong can be sold out in March to March of the following year, with a yield of up to 6,000 catties per mu, while 70% to 80% of the sea bass in Jiangsu and Zhejiang can be listed in that year.

<b>"You perch No. 3" is fast and easy to tame, and is more suitable for eating feed</b>
Traditional California perch farming is based on chilled feeding, so the selection of "You perch No. 1" is selectively bred under the conditions of chilled fish culture. In recent years, with the continuous upgrading and breakthrough of feed technology, more and more people have begun to feed breeding, and the "You perch No. 3" that has passed the approval of new varieties is specially cultivated for artificial feed breeding.
"You perch No. 3" is jointly selected and bred by the Pearl River Institute and Guangdong Liang's Aquatic Seed Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Liang's Seed Industry") and Nanjing Shuaifeng Feed Co., Ltd. in Jiangsu Province, which is based on the newly approved new variety "You perch No. 1" and the northern subspecies of largemouth bass newly introduced from the United States, using a breeding method combining group breeding technology and molecular biology technology, with the growth traits and easy to domesticate the feed under the condition of artificial compound feed as the main breeding indicators. Obtained through 4 consecutive generations of selective breeding.
"The test results show that under the breeding conditions of artificial feed feeding in tongtang, the growth rate of 'You perch No. 3' is 36.74% higher than that of ordinary species." In addition to being more suitable for eating artificial compound feed, the domestication time of "You perch 3" is also significantly shortened, "the newly hatched California perch eats live bait and needs to be domesticated to eat artificial compound feed." Generally, the domestication time of California perch is long, and the domestication rate after 1 week of domestication is only about 80%, while the domestication rate of 'You perch 3' can reach more than 90% in 5 days. ”
<b>Control germplasm with a more standardized promotion model</b>
After the advent of "You perch No. 1", it was quickly promoted throughout the country, but due to poor supervision, some seedling enterprises with the sign of "You perch No. 1" did not select and produce seeds in accordance with the production specifications of "You perch No. 1", and the phenomenon of fish eyes and counterfeiting in the market was serious. "U perch No. 3" is expected to be officially promoted and listed next year, and adjustments will be made in the promotion model.
"The Pearl River Institute has full authority entrusted Liang's Seed Industry to be responsible for the transformation and marketing of the achievements of 'You perch No. 3', and intends to adopt the method of franchising seedling enterprises." Researcher Bai Junjie introduced, "In order to monitor the germplasm, the core populations of the A and B lines of the 'You perch 3' are preserved and propagated by the Liang seed industry, and the selection and production of the parents of the core good seeds are uniformly carried out. ”
It is reported that the core population of "U perch No. 3" is divided into A line and B line, which are independently selected and not related, and the genetic characteristics will be relatively rich after reproduction, avoiding inbreeding and degradation. The offspring of the A and B lines are sold as parents to the franchised seedling enterprises, in order to ensure the germplasm, the core population will be selected and eliminated every year, and the franchised seedling enterprises also need to renew the parents every year.
<b>The road to good seeds still has a long way to go</b>
Recently, with the approval of the State Council, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and other 10 ministries and commissions jointly issued the "Several Opinions on Accelerating the Green Development of the Aquaculture Industry". The "Opinions" mentioned the regulation of the development of the seed industry, the encouragement of breeding and promotion of new aquaculture varieties of high-quality, efficient, multi-resistant and safe aquaculture, and the improvement of the level of aquaculture breeding, etc., and the upcoming "You perch No. 3" echoed this point.
"At present, there are relatively not enough new varieties of California perch, and there is still a lack of varieties with strong disease resistance and high temperature resistance, and breeding work still has a long way to go." Researcher Bai Junjie said.
