Among the five tiger generals of the Shu Kingdom, why is Zhao Yun the lowest position?

For the five tiger generals of the Shu state during the Three Kingdoms period, people often used Guan, Zhang, Zhao, Ma, and Huang to sort. Here Zhao Yun is ranked ahead of Ma Chao and Huang Zhong. However, the highest official positions in their lives were General Ma Chaohu, General Zhang Feiche, Former General Guan Yu, General Huang Zhonghou, and General Zhao Yunzhengnan. If you don't understand the sequence of official positions of military generals in the Eastern Han Dynasty, this dazzling title may really make people confused about the level of their official positions. Let's first understand the order of the military generals in that period!

The official positions of the Eastern Han Dynasty military generals are ordered as follows: First, the great general is in charge of all the soldiers and horses in the world, but the great general is not permanent; secondly, the marshal-level general is the general of the hussar, the general of the car, and the general of the guard; and then the general of the front, rear, left, and right, which is the third rank of the military general, which can be understood as the level of the commander of the theater. Then down, there are the generals of the Four Expeditions (Zhengnan, Zhengdong, Zhengxi, and Zhengbei), which is equivalent to the commander of the group army.

Therefore, the official positions of the Five Tiger Generals, from high to low, are: General Ma Chaoqiu, General Zhang Feiche, General Guan Yuqian, General Huang Zhonghou, General Zhao Yun zhengnan, and Zhao Yun is the last in line. Guan Yu and Huang Zhong, if they had not died before Liu Bei became emperor in 221 AD, would have held higher positions. But no matter what, among the five tiger generals, Zhao Yun's official position was the lowest. Many people are therefore unfair to Zhao Yun, ranking after Guan Yu zhang fei, everyone has no opinion, how can the official position be lower than Ma Chao and Huang Zhong? We are not Liu Bei, I don't know how he thinks about it, but after all, it is an era of merit and reward, and we can try to analyze them from their merits.

First of all, Ma Chao, when he was guarding Xiliang in the town, once beat Cao Cao and fled, and then he was defeated before he surrendered to Liu Bei. He was a prince of the same rank as Liu Bei and Cao Cao, and he came with a large army. That is true, born into a famous family, a prominent position, and a far-reaching reputation, Liu Bei, whether he is a king or an emperor, needs to use Ma Chao's background to enhance his political status. To put it bluntly, Ma Chao is the big guy who defected to the mainstream power group, so although Ma Chao did not have too dazzling achievements later (of course, he did not give the opportunity to perform), as long as he was on Liu Bei's side, Shu Han had more orthodox confidence. Giving him high positions, but not real power, is a typical exchange of political interests.

Let's talk about Huang Zhong: He is not tall and lacks prestige, but he is indeed capable, and his combat bravery and outstanding achievements are also obvious to all. Originally, he did not command the battle of the large corps like Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Ma Chao, and his position could not have surpassed Zhao Yun, but in 219 AD, Liu Bei led his army to attack the Battle of Dingjun Mountain in Hanzhong, and Huang Zhong, as a pioneer, beheaded Xiahou Yuan at Dingjun Mountain, which shocked the Cao army and directly led to the defeat and retreat of the Cao army.

Who is Xiahou Yuan? That was Cao Cao's marshal, Ma Chao was defeated by him, Zeng broke Through Cloud County, Dingguanzhong, Chasing Ma Chao, Breaking Han Sui, Destroying Song Jian, Sweeping Qiang, Wei Zhen Guanzhong and Guan Right. Cao Cao arranged it this way, east of Tongguan, and he personally led the generals to sit down. TongGuan, Xi Xiahouyuan is the supreme commander, the official Bai Zhengxi general, today's words, the commander-in-chief of the Western Theater, Xiahou Yuan this time with Zhang Gao, Guo Huai and other famous generals, led a heavy army to confront Liu Bei, Liu Bei has been at a disadvantage, but coincidentally, when Xiahou Yuan took the small troops out, he was intercepted and killed by Huang Zhong, who was more than 70 years old. Immediately turned the tide of battle. Imagine if MacArthur, the commander-in-chief of the United Nations Army, was killed by a division commander of the Volunteer Army on the Korean battlefield. Therefore, Liu Bei gave Huang Zhonghou the position of general, on the one hand, the credit is big enough, on the other hand, it is also to win the hearts and minds of the people.

Finally, talking about Zhao Yun, people often say that the three kingdoms martial generals rank the force value, one Lu and two Zhao or something. It can be seen that Zhao Yun is most talked about by virtue of his outstanding ability to single-handedly create a legendary record: Changsakapo single-rider savior; the Battle of Yiling led the troops to scare back the Eastern Wu pursuers; the Battle of Hanzhong in the empty city plan to scare back the Cao army; Zhuge Liang's first Northern Expedition, due to the loss of ma Mo street pavilions and failure, Zhao Yun stopped the loss of a large number of military supplies after the horse broke. But on closer inspection, they are all small-scale battles, relying on strong personal ability and deterrence to achieve victory. Zhao Yun is indeed a good general, the best choice for the vanguard, but he is not the commander of the Chinese army. Therefore, the battles he won were not too large-scale, but belonged to small and medium-sized scales. In terms of military merit, he is inferior to the other four, so it is not surprising that his official position ranks last.
