In November 2016, some netizens posted on social networking sites that they were beaten and disfigured by many people at a barbecue restaurant during a trip to Lijiang, which caused great concern at the time.

In February 2017, the National Tourism Administration gave a serious warning to three 5A-level tourist attractions, including the Lijiang Ancient City Scenic Area in Yunnan, at a press conference, with a deadline of 6 months for rectification.

In the afternoon of the same day, when the Propaganda Department of the Lijiang Ancient City District Party Committee "Gu Xuan release" interacted with netizens on relevant news, he was suspected of using inappropriate remarks: "You better never come!" There are no more of you, no more of you! "Anything is like this, as the saying goes: a slap doesn't make a sound!" In the end, two officials of the Propaganda Department of the Gucheng District Committee were suspended.

Cui Maohu was appointed secretary of the Lijiang Municipal Party Committee when Lijiang was on the cusp of the storm.

On April 15, 2017, Yunnan implemented the "strictest in history" tourism market order rectification 22 iron laws - "Yunnan Tourism Market Order Rectification Work Measures". Xinhua News Agency reported in September of the same year that in response to the chaos in the tourism market, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, has dealt with 317 cases of violations of laws and regulations involving tourism in the past six months, administratively detained 142 people, and imposed administrative penalties of more than 4.9 million yuan.

Cui Maohu has conducted many investigations and put forward requirements for the improvement of tourism in Lijiang. For example, in September last year, when he conducted a special investigation on Lijiang's tourism work during the epidemic period, he pointed out that it is necessary to implement the control measures for safe tourism, so that Visitors to Lijiang can feel that Lijiang is one of the safest and warmest places.

On the eve of May Day this year, Cui Maohu investigated the work related to the May Day holiday in Lijiang, and he said that efforts should be made to improve service levels, accelerate tourism transformation and upgrading, and make Lijiang tourism more connotative and more attractive.
