　　If Chinese women are allowed to name the "four famous works of the West", then "Jane Eyre", "Wuthering Heights", "Pride and Prejudice", and "Doll's House" may be elected with high votes, because these four books have not only had a major impact on the Western women's liberation movement, but also, from the May Fourth period, chinese women who have been independent, self-reliant and pursuing happiness have been swept away to this day.

　　Of the four, only Ibsen, the author of The Doll's House, was male, and the other three were all female. Interestingly, Emily Brontë, author of Wuthering Heights, and Charlotte Brontë, author of Jane Eyre, are sisters, and Emily, like Jane Austen, author of Pride and Prejudice, has spent her life at home, but has created a masterpiece that has been passed down through the ages.

　　Emily is the second of Brontë's three sisters and a gifted girl. In her short life of 30 years, she created 193 poems, but only one novel was left, still in prose poetry, that is, "Wuthering Heights". However, when the book was published, it was not as popular as her sister Charlotte's "Jane Eyre", because its avant-garde writing style, imaginative style and radical feminism were not understood by the world at that time.

　　It was not until the twentieth century that her work ushered in the spring, and her advanced realization is not outdated today, and there are still many rich connotations for future study. It has been hailed by critics as "the only book that has not been obscured by the dust of time".

　　Wuthering Heights was first translated into China in the 1930s. In 1930, the Shanghai Huatong Book Company published the first translation of the Chinese, translated by Wu Guangjian, a famous scholar of the late Qing Dynasty, whose title was translated as "The Narrow Road Wrongdoer", and Emily Brontë was translated as Emerald Bulunte.

　　The film version of Wuthering Heights meets Chinese audiences nine years later. In 1939, the United American Film Company filmed the first film adaptation of the original "Wuthering Heights" in history, which was released almost at the same time as china, and the translated name was diametrically opposed to the style of Mr. Wu Guangjian.

　　If Wu Lao's translation of "Narrow Road" is to highlight the theme of revenge, from the perspective of the male protagonist Heathcliff, then the translated title of the film version of "Soul Returns to Hate Heaven" highlights the tragic theme, from the perspective of the heroine Catherine, the name is full of strong feminist consciousness.

　　Three years later, in 1942, the Shanghai Commercial Press published the second Chinese translation of Wuthering Heights, which was more straightforward and rough than the first, "Roaring Hills", which directly showed Heathcliff's "daily dynamics", but the translator was a weak young man who translated Shakespeare's complete works - Liang Shiqiu.

　　This translated name caused great controversy at that time, probably because he and Mr. Lu Xun had argued, so everyone "did not dare to pick up his front". But translated so "casually", it is ultimately disrespectful to this great woman, and it is full of "machismo".

　　Only one girl stepped forward to justify the original. She was a student of the Department of Foreign Languages of Southwest United University and the sister of Yang Xianyi, a translator of "Dream of the Red Chamber" into English, yang Wei, who was 23 years old at the time.

　　Yang Wei said to himself: "I think Mr. Liang may have been inspired by Heathcliff's mischievous personality and tyrannical behavior, but I always think that the title of the book is inappropriate. In the first chapter of the book, it is clearly stated that W. H. is heathcliff's place of residence, the original name of the house of the Enshaw family, and I don't think any homeowner would be willing to scare visitors by calling his home 'roaring'. ”

　　However, now that it has competed with male authority, it is necessary to come up with a new plan. Fortunately, Yang Wei has a good style of "reading and having words" in English at Southwest United University.

　　One stormy night, Yang Wei came to the window, and the outside was so similar to the eerie stormy night at the beginning of the book.

　　"It's like Catherine crying outside the window and telling me to open the window. The house I lived in was already a desolate garden outside, and I almost felt that I was in the old house near the Yorkshire wilderness. I unconsciously read Wuthering Heights... Struggling to think about how to translate its meaning exactly, and to be able to basically get close to its pronunciation... Suddenly, inspiration came from the sky, and I excitedly wrote down the four big words of 'Wuthering Heights'!"

　　After getting the title of the book with the divine pen, Yang Wei began to immerse himself in the translation.

　　At this time, during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, another legendary woman, zhao Qingge, a writer, painter and editor who was only 5 years older than Yang Wei, was throwing herself into the salvation movement, and in order to inspire national morale, "Wuthering Heights" was put on the drama stage for the first time. Created by a girl "first", Liang Shiqiu himself admired it to the extreme.

　　Zhao Qingge's translated name is RouZhong Dai Gang, called "This Hate Is Endless". In the confessional Juyi's "Long Hate Song", the sentence "This hatred has no end" highlights the great national righteousness and the hatred of the country and the family.

　　This five-act drama was performed in Chongqing, Shanghai and other places, which had a major impact on the society, and in 1944, the Chongqing New China Literary and Art Society published this script by Zhao Qingge.

　　In 1955, Yang Wei's translated version of Wuthering Heights was finally published by Pingming Publishing House. Since then, more than 50 translations by Fang Ping, Tian Xin and Song Zhaolin, mainly male translators, have been using this name, and no one has raised any objections.
