The Hindustan Times reported on Oct. 26 that India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested five people, including a naval officer at the command level, in a submarine data breach.

Kilo-class submarines equipped by the Indian Navy
According to a source, India's Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an active navy officer, two retired navy officials and two others for allegedly leaking classified information related to the ongoing submarine program.
India's Central Bureau of Investigation declined to disclose any other details about the case, including the names of the officers arrested. However, several officials, who did not name, said the covert arrest operation began last month and was related to the Indian Navy's ongoing russian Kilo-class submarine upgrade program. So far, the investigation department has conducted raids on 19 sites located in various locations, and many are under investigation.
According to one of the officials, the Indian Navy commander discussed key details of the ongoing Kilo-class submarine modernization project with two other retired officers for illegal benefits. At present, relevant investigations are under way to find out whether classified information has fallen into the wrong hands.
Indian Scorpio-class submarines were launched
According to the report, the Indian Navy said on October 26 that the investigation into the suspected administrative and commercial leakage of some unauthorized personnel has been made public, and the relevant government departments are continuing to investigate, and the Indian Navy will provide full support. Indian Navy officials said the Navy was also conducting an internal investigation, led by a vice admiral, to find out how secrets were leaked and to study countermeasures.
The report mentioned that the Indian Navy is currently equipped with 8 Kilo-class submarines, 4 German-made Type 209 submarines and 3 Scorpene-class submarines, and there will be 3 Scorpundr-class submarines in the future. India is also pushing for a project worth Rs 430 billion (36.6 billion yuan) to build six advanced submarines in the country and continue to strengthen the Indian Navy's underwater combat capabilities.
