Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

While the early marketing campaign was relatively controversial, it was gratifying to see that Star Trek III Beyond the Stars proved to be a great sequel to Star Trek: Diablo, and in many ways beat Diablo, proving that the series would be better if it wasn't for J.J. Abrams as the director.

This movie not only has the crazy action scenes created by "Fast and Furious" director Lin Yibin, the a lot of emotional scenes and funny humor created by Simon Peg's incisive script, but also prepares a huge number of tributes to the old series for loyal fans.

Whether you think it's good or bad compared to all previous Trek movies, you can imagine that many loyal fans will enjoy this fun-filled, visually stunning new journey that moves the series forward.

Here are the 10 best moments from Star Trek III Beyond the Stars...

10. Sulu is gay... It's no big deal

Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

A few weeks before the film's release, it was revealed that the new generation of Sulu, played by John Zhao, was gay, but even the original Sulu actor George Takei himself expressed disappointment, because he felt that it was a hint that the Sulu he had played was hiding in the closet, as if he had deliberately played him as a straight man.

Of course, this completely ignores the fact that these Trek films take place in their own separate timelines, each maintaining a logical continuity, but even so, not long after the film begins, when the Enterprise lands at Yorktown Star Station for a break, there is a brief picture of Sulu's homosexual identity. Sulu meets his boyfriend/husband and young daughter, and then the two are seen hugging each other and leaving.

The 122-minute film scene occupies only 20 seconds, which will definitely not have any form of negative impact on the film, and if it is not hyped up in advance, most viewers probably will not pay too much attention to this point, and may not think too much about it and accept it.

More films should have plucked up the courage to portray these relationships rather than as some sort of symbolic gimmick.

9. Carraro is pressed into a meatloaf

Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

At first, the Enterprise intercepts a distress signal from the alien Carraro, who claims that her ship has malfunctioned and the crew is trapped, so the Enterprise sets out for a rescue mission.

The Enterprise arrives at her indicated position, but is attacked by a fleet of bee planes led by the villain, causing the Enterprise to be destroyed. Captain Kirk soon understood that it was Cararo who had led them into the trap of labor, and although she claimed to have done so to save her own crew, she quickly revealed her true colors.

However, at the end of this action scene, she is killed in an extremely exaggerated way: Kirk and Chekhov activate the downed Enterprise's thrusters, causing it to turn upside down and squash the unsuspecting Carraro.

Everyone loves to see this crap character get the retribution she deserves, and it's the best way to make her die as a pile of meat paste.

8. Jellya wants to get drunk but won't get drunk

Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

At the end of the film, the crew of the Enterprise celebrate Captain Kirk's birthday, and Scotty wants to invite Jela to join the Starship Alliance, while she has drunk a dozen glasses of wine alone, hoping to anesthetize herself.

But comically, she tells Scotty that it simply won't work, suggesting that her alien genetics give her amazing alcohol tolerance. Still, it's a fun moment to further shape her character in a fantastic way. Sketty then proposed that she join the Starship Alliance, whether that means she is expected to continue to appear in more films. She's so good, it's a waste to just star in this movie.

7. Disclosure of the identity of the laborer

At the end, the Crew of the Enterprise discovers a video explaining the origins of Crow's identity: he turned out to be a human named Balthazar Edison, the captain of the Franklin spacecraft, who had disappeared about a century ago.

The video shows that after the ship is trapped, Edison is in pain and eventually seems to have a nervous breakdown, and he uses alien technology to prolong his life, resulting in not only physical mutation, but also intellectual madness, and exacerbating his hatred for the Federation that "abandoned" him.

While it wasn't the most imaginative twist in the World of Star Trek, it added to the depth of the character, making him more than just an ordinary alien invader, but also giving him a tragic backstory that resonated enough. Finally, the real face of Idris Elba also appears unexpectedly, because most people must think that he will wear a makeup mask throughout the film.

6. Spock's existential crisis

Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

Shortly after the film begins, Spock is informed of the death of Ambassador Spock (the elderly Spock played by Leonard Nimoy) by two Vulcan Star Elders, causing him to fall into fear and ponder his situation in the universe and the Starship Alliance.

This scene seems interesting, mainly because it is very unique in the entire Star Trek system: there are many characters in the movie who have to face the death of their loved ones, but what if they die in another parallel dimension? This makes Spock's situation seem unusually strange, and his own death (even if it is himself in another dimension) is obviously far heavier than the death of others.

Then came a very wonderful scene between Spock and Old Bones, in which Spock spoke of his worries. And overall his worries underscore the importance of the character in the film.

5. Kirk diverts attention from drag racing

Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

It's clear that one of the most interesting action scenes in the film is when the surviving protagonists of the Enterprise raid the base of the Labor, rescuing Uhura, Sulu, and the rest of the imprisoned crew.

Jeira, Spock, and Old Bones went to the base to rescue the PRISONERs, while Kirk rode a motorcycle around the base to distract each other, using a holographic projection system to copy countless motorcycles, and the sound of the east and west knocked the enemy dizzy.

Kirk also spread a special crystal barrier around the base to protect the crew from being moved to safety, and at the last moment, he boldly took off into the air and happened to catch The Jela in the air in time to be safely teleported back.

This scene fully proves that it is wise to ask Lin Yibin to be the director: he is not the inevitable director of the Star Trek film, but when it comes to eye-opening action scenes, especially when there are vehicles in it, he is obviously the better choice.

4. "Dedicated to Anton"

Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

At the time of Leonard Nimoy's death, the film was in post-production, so there was plenty of time to make his death appear in the film in a meaningful way, but the death of Anton Eugene was unexpected, and his unexpected death a month before the film's release shocked the film industry, although Chekhov's role in the film had ended filming a few months earlier and was completely unaffected.

In the end credits, after paying tribute to Nimoy, it is followed by a simple but touching note, "Dedicated to Anton". Filmmakers tend to add a lot of information, but the simple two words here are still incredibly exciting for movie buffs, perhaps because its elegant simplicity says it all.

In any case, J.J. Abrams has confirmed that the actors will not be rearranged to play Chekhov in future films, and that the role will be as good as possible.

3. Kirk drinks with Old Bones

Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

This short and memorable scene takes place just after the opening scene, when Old Bones invites Kirk for a drink. Kirk was drinking an inferior liquor made by aliens when Old Bones took out the fine whiskey he had stolen from Chekhov's dressing room and shared it with him.

Old Bones says that Kirk's birthday is coming, but Kirk confesses that he doesn't like birthdays because it reminds him that his dad died on the same day, and he's now a year older than his dad. Then Old Bones told him that if he wanted to be on par with his father, he couldn't ignore his true self.

This is very much like the subsequent Spock introspection scene, providing some very good insights into the character of Kirk, adding his psychological interpretation, which the audience may not necessarily expect, but the advantage is to avoid the clichéd soap drama plot. But it also proves that Old Bones is not a good listener...

2. Beast Boy turns the tide

Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

Perhaps the most unexpected and craziest moment in the entire film is at the climax of the ending, where Kirk and his friends come up with a way to destroy the Bee Plane fleet that Labor had previously used to destroy the Enterprise.

They decided to play noise to disturb the frequency of the bee machine fleet and thus destroy the enemy formation, and sure enough, they easily destroyed the bee machine group and took advantage of the victory to pursue and directly fight against the enemy.

Scotty used Jeela's music system to play Beast Boy's Sabotage on the same frequency, easily destroying the bee machine fleet.

This scene is super cool, reminiscent of Kirk's love for the Beast Boys band from the first movie, and while ridiculous in nature, it's a very exciting scene. You have to praise Simon Peggy and Lin Yibin for their bold adventures, but they probably enjoy it with pride.

1. Original crew photo

Ten exciting moments of Star Trek III Beyond the Stars

Finally, there was a moment when all old Star Trek fans must have a deep resonance. After Rao is sucked into space and his plans are shattered, the crew returns home and Spock sorts out Ambassador Spock's belongings.

In it, he saw a group photo of Spock and the rest of the crew of the old Star Trek series, a touching tribute to the alternation of the old and new characters, and one could not help but guess that William Shatner's live-action cameo probably wouldn't be too far away.

It's also a tribute to the far-reaching impact of the series, and it also makes Spock determined that he will remain one of the Most Solid Members of the Enterprise in his moments of confusion. [Jack Pooley]
