On October 26, the China Employment Research Institute of Chinese University and Zhaopin Joint Recruitment released the "Report on the Job Market Boom for College Graduates in the Third Quarter of 2021" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"). The "Report" shows that with the improvement of domestic epidemic prevention and control and the continuous recovery of economic development, the prosperity index of college graduates (CIER) in the third quarter was 1.24, as college graduates entered the peak period of autumn job hunting, job competition was fierce, and the employment prosperity index decreased month-on-month, but rebounded year-on-year.
On a month-on-month basis, the recruitment demand for college graduates in the third quarter of 2021 increased by 6.5% compared with the second quarter, but due to the peak season of graduates ushering in the autumn job search season, the increase in the number of deliveries made the CIER index decline month-on-month. Year-on-year, the recruitment demand for college graduates in the third quarter decreased by 2.3%, and the number of job applicants fell by 9.5%, making the CIER index rise year-on-year.

In terms of monthly, in terms of recruitment demand, January to June 2021 are higher than the same period last year, March to April reached the highest, July decreased, August and September were the same as the same period last year; in terms of job search supply, college graduates' job search is cyclical, reaching the highest in March, while August and September are the same as the same period last year. At the same time, due to the continuous improvement of domestic epidemic prevention and control, compared with last year, college graduates this year can choose to participate in offline campus job fairs and other channels, so the number of online job seekers is lower than the same period last year in February to June; the prosperity index of college graduates is higher than last year in February and June this year, while August and September are basically the same as the same period last year.
In terms of economic circles, the CIER index of graduates in the Yangtze River Delta Economic Circle in the third quarter of 2021 was the highest, followed by the Pearl River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Economic Circle.
In terms of city levels, the new first-tier, first-tier, second-tier and third-tier cities show a trend of increasing in turn. Among them, the CIER index of first-tier and new first-tier cities is 1.40 and 1.26 respectively, and the prosperity index is relatively low, while the CIER index of second-tier and third-tier cities is 1.70 and 2.75, and the job market is relatively loose.
In terms of the size and nature of enterprises, the CIER index of graduates of large enterprises in the third quarter of 2021 is relatively high, the supply and demand of medium-sized enterprises are basically balanced, and the CIER index of small and micro enterprises is less than 1. The employment boom of private, listed companies and joint-stock enterprises is relatively high, and the competition in state-owned enterprises is fierce.
In the third quarter of 2021, the industry with the best employment boom for college graduates was the intermediary service industry, with the CIER index of 22.3. In addition, the employment boom in education/training/colleges, Internet/e-commerce, real estate/construction/building materials/engineering, medicine/biological engineering and other industries is also relatively good. The sector with the lowest employment climate index for college graduates is aviation/aerospace research and manufacturing, with a CIER index of 0.20. In addition, the CIER index of energy/minerals/mining/smelting, gifts/toys/arts and crafts/collectibles/luxury goods, tourism/vacation, transportation/transportation and other industries is also relatively low. The relatively poor employment boom in these industries means that the competition for college graduates is also fierce.
It is worth noting that the third quarter of 2021 is the first autumn peak season for job hunting after the "double reduction" policy. From the perspective of recruitment demand, from July to September 2021, the number of recruitment demand for primary and secondary school course counseling has declined continuously, especially in September; from the perspective of job supply, the number of college graduates in primary and secondary school course counseling occupations in August 2021 has also declined sharply, and September and August are basically the same. From the perspective of employment sentiment, the prosperity index fell to 16.61 in September, the lowest since the second quarter of this year.
